A THz image edge detection approach based on wavelet and neural network is proposed in this paper. First, the source image is decomposed by wavelet, the edges in the low-frequency sub-image are detected using neural network method and the edges in the high-frequency sub-images are detected using wavelet transform method on the coarsest level of the wavelet decomposition, the two edge images are fused according to some fusion rules to obtain the edge image of this level, it then is projected to the next level. Afterwards the final edge image of L-1 level is got according to some fusion rule. This process is repeated until reaching the 0 level thus to get the final integrated and clear edge image. The experimental results show that our approach based on fusion technique is superior to Canny operator method and wavelet transform method alone.
Aiming at the problem that the traditional intrusion detection method can not effectively deal with the massive and high-dimensional network traffic data of industrial control system (ICS), an ICS intrusion detection strategy based on bidirectional generative adversarial network (BiGAN) is proposed in this paper. In order to improve the applicability of BiGAN model in ICS intrusion detection, the optimal model was obtained through the single variable principle and cross-validation. On this basis, the supervised control and data acquisition (SCADA) standard data set is used for comparative experiments to verify the performance of the optimized model on ICS intrusion detection. The results show that the ICS intrusion detection method based on optimized BiGAN has higher accuracy and shorter detection time than other methods.
Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) are susceptible to model stealing attacks, which allows a data-limited adversary with no knowledge of the training dataset to clone the functionality of a target model, just by using black-box query access. Such attacks are typically carried out by querying the target model using inputs that are synthetically generated or sampled from a surrogate dataset to construct a labeled dataset. The adversary can use this labeled dataset to train a clone model, which achieves a classification accuracy comparable to that of the target model. We propose "Adaptive Misinformation" to defend against such model stealing attacks. We identify that all existing model stealing attacks invariably query the target model with Out-Of-Distribution (OOD) inputs. By selectively sending incorrect predictions for OOD queries, our defense substantially degrades the accuracy of the attacker's clone model (by up to 40%), while minimally impacting the accuracy (\textbackslashtextless; 0.5%) for benign users. Compared to existing defenses, our defense has a significantly better security vs accuracy trade-off and incurs minimal computational overhead.
Artificial neural networks in general and deep learning networks in particular established themselves as popular and powerful machine learning algorithms. While the often tremendous sizes of these networks are beneficial when solving complex tasks, the tremendous number of parameters also causes such networks to be vulnerable to malicious behavior such as adversarial perturbations. These perturbations can change a model's classification decision. Moreover, while single-step adversaries can easily be transferred from network to network, the transfer of more powerful multi-step adversaries has - usually - been rather difficult.In this work, we introduce a method for generating strong adversaries that can easily (and frequently) be transferred between different models. This method is then used to generate a large set of adversaries, based on which the effects of selected defense methods are experimentally assessed. At last, we introduce a novel, simple, yet effective approach to enhance the resilience of neural networks against adversaries and benchmark it against established defense methods. In contrast to the already existing methods, our proposed defense approach is much more efficient as it only requires a single additional forward-pass to achieve comparable performance results.
In this paper, the two methods for ciphering are presented and compared. The aim is to reveal the suitability of chaotic neural network approach to ciphering compared to AES cipher. The durations in seconds of both methods are presented and the two methods are compared. The results show, that the chaotic neural network is fast, suitable for ciphering of short plaintexts. AES ciphering is suitable for longer plaintexts or images and is also more reliable.
Intrusion detection is one of the most prominent and challenging problem faced by cybersecurity organizations. Intrusion Detection System (IDS) plays a vital role in identifying network security threats. It protects the network for vulnerable source code, viruses, worms and unauthorized intruders for many intranet/internet applications. Despite many open source APIs and tools for intrusion detection, there are still many network security problems exist. These problems are handled through the proper pre-processing, normalization, feature selection and ranking on benchmark dataset attributes prior to the enforcement of self-learning-based classification algorithms. In this paper, we have performed a comprehensive comparative analysis of the benchmark datasets NSL-KDD and CIDDS-001. For getting optimal results, we have used the hybrid feature selection and ranking methods before applying self-learning (Machine / Deep Learning) classification algorithmic approaches such as SVM, Naïve Bayes, k-NN, Neural Networks, DNN and DAE. We have analyzed the performance of IDS through some prominent performance indicator metrics such as Accuracy, Precision, Recall and F1-Score. The experimental results show that k-NN, SVM, NN and DNN classifiers perform approx. 100% accuracy regarding performance evaluation metrics on the NSL-KDD dataset whereas k-NN and Naïve Bayes classifiers perform approx. 99% accuracy on the CIDDS-001 dataset.
This paper investigates the impact of authentication on effective capacity (EC) of an underwater acoustic (UWA) channel. Specifically, the UWA channel is under impersonation attack by a malicious node (Eve) present in the close vicinity of the legitimate node pair (Alice and Bob); Eve tries to inject its malicious data into the system by making Bob believe that she is indeed Alice. To thwart the impersonation attack by Eve, Bob utilizes the distance of the transmit node as the feature/fingerprint to carry out feature-based authentication at the physical layer. Due to authentication at Bob, due to lack of channel knowledge at the transmit node (Alice or Eve), and due to the threshold-based decoding error model, the relevant dynamics of the considered system could be modelled by a Markov chain (MC). Thus, we compute the state-transition probabilities of the MC, and the moment generating function for the service process corresponding to each state. This enables us to derive a closed-form expression of the EC in terms of authentication parameters. Furthermore, we compute the optimal transmission rate (at Alice) through gradient-descent (GD) technique and artificial neural network (ANN) method. Simulation results show that the EC decreases under severe authentication constraints (i.e., more false alarms and more transmissions by Eve). Simulation results also reveal that the (optimal transmission rate) performance of the ANN technique is quite close to that of the GTJ method.
A novel deep neural network is proposed, for accurate and robust crowd counting. Crowd counting is a complex task, as it strongly depends on the deployed camera characteristics and, above all, the scene perspective. Crowd counting is essential in security applications where Internet of Things (IoT) cameras are deployed to help with crowd management tasks. The complexity of a scene varies greatly, and a medium to large scale security system based on IoT cameras must cater for changes in perspective and how people appear from different vantage points. To address this, our deep architecture extracts multi-scale features with a pyramid contextual module to provide long-range contextual information and enlarge the receptive field. Experiments were run on three major crowd counting datasets, to test our proposed method. Results demonstrate our method supersedes the performance of state-of-the-art methods.
Object recognition with the help of outdoor video surveillance cameras is an important task in the context of ensuring the security at enterprises, public places and even private premises. There have long existed systems that allow detecting moving objects in the image sequence from a video surveillance system. Such a system is partially considered in this research. It detects moving objects using a background model, which has certain problems. Due to this some objects are missed or detected falsely. We propose to combine the moving objects detection results with the classification, using a deep neural network. This will allow determining whether a detected object belongs to a certain class, sorting out false detections, discarding the unnecessary ones (sometimes individual classes are unwanted), to divide detected people into the employees in the uniform and all others, etc. The authors perform a network training in the Keras developer-friendly environment that provides for quick building, changing and training of network architectures. The performance of the Keras integration into a video analysis system, using direct Python script execution techniques, is between 6 and 52 ms, while the precision is between 59.1% and 97.2% for different architectures. The integration, made by freezing a selected network architecture with weights, is selected after testing. After that, frozen architecture can be imported into video analysis using the TensorFlow interface for C++. The performance of such type of integration is between 3 and 49 ms. The precision is between 63.4% and 97.8% for different architectures.
The incidence of abnormal road traffic events, especially abnormal traffic congestion, is becoming more and more prominent in daily traffic management in China. It has become the main research work of urban traffic management to detect and identify traffic congestion incidents in time. Efficient and accurate detection of traffic congestion incidents can provide a good strategy for traffic management. At present, the detection and recognition of traffic congestion events mainly rely on the integration of road traffic flow data and the passing data collected by electronic police or devices of checkpoint, and then estimating and forecasting road conditions through the method of big data analysis; Such methods often have some disadvantages such as low time-effect, low precision and small prediction range. Therefore, with the help of the current large and medium cities in the public security, traffic police have built video surveillance equipment, through computer vision technology to analyze the traffic flow from video monitoring, in this paper, the motion state and the changing trend of vehicle flow are obtained by using the technology of vehicle detection from video and multi-target tracking based on deep learning, so as to realize the perception and recognition of traffic congestion. The method achieves the recognition accuracy of less than 60 seconds in real-time, more than 80% in detection rate of congestion event and more than 82.5% in accuracy of detection. At the same time, it breaks through the restriction of traditional big data prediction, such as traffic flow data, truck pass data and GPS floating car data, and enlarges the scene and scope of detection.
