Clark, Nicholas K..  2022.  Enhancing an Information-Centric Network of Things at the Internet Edge with Trust-Based Access Control. 2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT). :1–6.
This work expands on our prior work on an architecture and supporting protocols to efficiently integrate constrained devices into an Information-Centric Network-based Internet of Things in a way that is both secure and scalable. In this work, we propose a scheme for addressing additional threats and integrating trust-based behavioral observations and attribute-based access control by leveraging the capabilities of less constrained coordinating nodes at the network edge close to IoT devices. These coordinating devices have better insight into the behavior of their constituent devices and access to a trusted overall security management cloud service. We leverage two modules, the security manager (SM) and trust manager (TM). The former provides data confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and authorization, while the latter analyzes the nodes' behavior using a trust model factoring in a set of service and network communication attributes. The trust model allows trust to be integrated into the SM's access control policies, allowing access to resources to be restricted to trusted nodes.

Hammar, Kim, Stadler, Rolf.  2022.  An Online Framework for Adapting Security Policies in Dynamic IT Environments. 2022 18th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM). :359—363.

We present an online framework for learning and updating security policies in dynamic IT environments. It includes three components: a digital twin of the target system, which continuously collects data and evaluates learned policies; a system identification process, which periodically estimates system models based on the collected data; and a policy learning process that is based on reinforcement learning. To evaluate our framework, we apply it to an intrusion prevention use case that involves a dynamic IT infrastructure. Our results demonstrate that the framework automatically adapts security policies to changes in the IT infrastructure and that it outperforms a state-of-the-art method.

Based on the analysis of material performance data management requirements, a network-sharing scheme of material performance data is proposed. A material performance database system including material performance data collection, data query, data analysis, data visualization, data security management and control modules is designed to solve the problems of existing material performance database network sharing, data fusion and multidisciplinary support, and intelligent services Inadequate standardization and data security control. This paper adopts hierarchical access control strategy. After logging into the material performance database system, users can standardize the material performance data and store them to form a shared material performance database. The standardized material performance data of the database system shall be queried and shared under control according to the authority. Then, the database system compares and analyzes the material performance data obtained from controlled query sharing. Finally, the database system visualizes the shared results of controlled queries and the comparative analysis results obtained. The database system adopts the MVC architecture based on B/S (client/server) cross platform J2EE. The Third-party computing platforms are integrated in System. Users can easily use material performance data and related services through browsers and networks. MongoDB database is used for data storage, supporting distributed storage and efficient query.

Hroub, Ayman, Elrabaa, Muhammad E. S..  2022.  SecSoC: A Secure System on Chip Architecture for IoT Devices. 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Hardware Oriented Security and Trust (HOST). :41—44.
IoT technology is finding new applications every day and everywhere in our daily lives. With that, come new use cases with new challenges in terms of device and data security. One of such challenges arises from the fact that many IoT devices/nodes are no longer being deployed on owners' premises, but rather on public or private property other than the owner's. With potential physical access to the IoT node, adversaries can launch many attacks that circumvent conventional protection methods. In this paper, we propose Secure SoC (SecSoC), a secure system-on-chip architecture that mitigates such attacks. This include logical memory dump attacks, bus snooping attacks, and compromised operating systems. SecSoC relies on two main mechanisms, (1) providing security extensions to the compute engine that runs the user application without changing its instruction set, (2) adding a security management unit (SMU) that provide HW security primitives for encryption, hashing, random number generators, and secrets store (keys, certificates, etc.). SecSoC ensures that no secret or sensitive data can leave the SoC IC in plaintext. SecSoC is being implemented in Bluespec System V erilog. The experimental results will reveal the area, power, and cycle time overhead of these security extensions. Overall performance (total execution time) will also be evaluated using IoT benchmarks.

Gao, Xueqin, Shang, Tao, Li, Da, Liu, Jianwei.  2022.  Quantitative Risk Assessment of Threats on SCADA Systems Using Attack Countermeasure Tree. 2022 19th Annual International Conference on Privacy, Security & Trust (PST). :1–5.
SCADA systems are one of the critical infrastructures and face many security threats. Attackers can control SCADA systems through network attacks, destroying the normal operation of the power system. It is important to conduct a risk assessment of security threats on SCADA systems. However, existing models for risk assessment using attack trees mainly focus on describing possible intrusions rather than the interaction between threats and defenses. In this paper, we comprehensively consider intrusion likelihood and defense capability and propose a quantitative risk assessment model of security threats based on attack countermeasure tree (ACT). Each leaf node in ACT contains two attributes: exploitable vulnerabilities and defense countermeasures. An attack scenario can be constructed by means of traversing the leaf nodes. We set up six indicators to evaluate the impact of security threats in attack scenarios according to NISTIR 7628 standard. Experimental results show the attack probability of security threats and high-risk attack scenarios in SCADA systems. We can improve defense countermeasures to protect against security threats corresponding to high-risk scenarios. In addition, the model can continually update risk assessments based on the implementation of the system’s defensive countermeasures.

Wang, XinRui, Luo, Wei, Bai, XiaoLi, Wang, Yi.  2021.  Research on Big Data Security and Privacy Risk Governance. 2021 International Conference on Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Risk Management (ICBAR). :15—18.
In the era of Big Data, opportunities and challenges are mixed. The data transfer is increasingly frequent and speedy, and the data lifecycle is also extended, bringing more challenges to security and privacy risk governance. Currently, the common measures of risk governance covering the entire data life cycle are the data-related staff management, equipment security management, data encryption codes, data content identification and de-identification processing, etc. With the trend of data globalization, regulations fragmentation and governance technologization, “International standards”, a measure of governance combining technology and regulation, has the potential to become the best practice. However, “voluntary compliance” of international standards derogates the effectiveness of risk governance through this measure. In order to strengthen the enforcement of the international standards, the paper proposes a governance approach which is “the framework regulated by international standards, and regulations and technologies specifically implemented by national legislation.” It aims to implement the security and privacy risk governance of Big Data effectively.

The international Supply Chains (SC) have expanded rapidly over the decades and also consist of many entities and business partners. The increasing complexity of supply chain makes it more vulnerable to a security threat. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate security management systems to ensure the flow of goods in SC. In this paper we used international standards to assess the security of the company's supply chain compliance with ISO 28001. Supply chain security that needs to be assessed includes all inbound logistics activities to outbound logistics. The aim of this research is to analyse the security management system by identifying security threat, consequences, and likelihood to develop adequate countermeasures for the security of the company's supply chain. Security risk assessment was done using methodology compliance with ISO 28001 which are identify scope of security assessment, conduct security assessment, list applicable threat scenario, determine consequences, determine likelihood, determine risk score, risk evaluation using risk matrix, determine counter measures, and estimation of risk matrix after countermeasures. This research conducted in one of the leather factory in Indonesia. In this research we divided security threat into five category: asset security, personnel security, information security, goods and conveyance security, and closed cargo transport units. The security assessment was conducted by considering the performance review according to ISO 28001: 2007 and the results show that there are 22 security threat scenarios in the company's supply chain. Based upon a system of priorities by risk score, countermeasures are designed to reduce the threat into acceptable level.

Information security of logistics services. Information security of logistics services is understood as a complex activity aimed at using information and means of its processing in order to increase the level of protection and normal functioning of the object's information environment. At the same time the main recommendations for ensuring information security of logistics processes include: logistics support of processes for ensuring the security of information flows of the enterprise; assessment of the quality and reliability of elements, reliability and efficiency of obtaining information about the state of logistics processes. However, it is possible to assess the level of information security within the organization's controlled part of the supply chain through levels and indicators. In this case, there are four levels and elements of information security of supply chains.

This paper argues that the security management of the robot supply chain would preferably focus on Sino-US relations and technical bottlenecks based on a comprehensive security analysis through open-source intelligence and data mining of associated discourses. Through the lens of the newsboy model and game theory, this study reconstructs the risk appraisal model of the robot supply chain and rebalances the process of the Sino-US competition game, leading to the prediction of China's strategic movements under the supply risks. Ultimately, this paper offers a threefold suggestion: increasing the overall revenue through cost control and scaled expansion, resilience enhancement and risk prevention, and outreach of a third party's cooperation for confrontation capabilities reinforcement.

Security is a requirement in society, yet its wide implementation is held back because of high expenses, and barriers to the use of technology. Experimental implementation of security at low cost will only help in promoting the technology at more affordable prices. This paper describes the design of a security system of surveillance using Raspberry Pi and Arduino UNO. The design senses the presence of \$a\$ human in a surveillance area and immediately sets off the buzzer and simultaneously starts capturing video of the motion it had detected and stores it in a folder. When the design senses a motion, it immediately sends an SMS to the user. The user of this design can see the live video of the motion it detects using the internet connection from a remote area. Our objective of making a low-cost surveillance area security system has been mostly fulfilled. Although this is a low-cost project, features can be compared with existing commercially available systems.

The Government of Indonesia has implemented an Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) to provide fast and unlimited services by distance, space, and time. The Case Investigation Information System (SIPP) is a service for the public that requires good integration of information so that legal services are provided quickly and easily. In 2020 court websites experienced many hacker attacks based on data from internal court sources, at least there were more than 20 courts throughout Indonesia that were affected by damage to both the website, the SIPP web feature, and the court library featured. Based on the Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 4 of 2016 in article 7, every SPBE organizer must implement information security following the information security standards described by the Ministry of Communication and Information. Since this regulation is conceived to minimize the risk of the security breach on SPBE, and there is such numerous security breach in 2020 therefore this indicates poorly implemented of the regulation. Based on this finding this research aims to investigate which area is neglected. To achieve this, this research employs gap analysis using ISO/IEC 27001:2013and maturity level to reveal the neglected areas in information security. Current findings show there are SIPP users that still use weak passwords and lack of awareness of top management personnel in several information security areas such as securing sensitive documents or policies that regulate information security specifically for SIPP. These findings entails that the security management in Court is most likely at the initiative level.

With the new coronavirus crisis, medical devices' workload has increased dramatically, leaving them growingly vulnerable to security threats and in need of a comprehensive solution. In this work, we take advantage of the flexible and highly manageable nature of Software Defined Networks (SDN) to design a thoroughgoing security framework that covers a health organization's various security requirements. Our solution comes to be an advanced SDN firewall that solves the issues facing traditional firewalls. It enables the partitioning of the organization's network and the enforcement of different filtering and monitoring behaviors on each partition depending on security conditions. We pursued the network's efficient and dynamic security management with the least human intervention in designing our model which makes it generally qualified to use in networks with different security requirements.

Kalinin, Maxim O., Krundyshev, Vasiliy M..  2021.  Computational Intelligence Technologies Stack for Protecting the Critical Digital Infrastructures against Security Intrusions. 2021 Fifth World Conference on Smart Trends in Systems Security and Sustainability (WorldS4). :118–122.
Over the past decade, an infotelecommunication technology has made significant strides forward. With the advent of new generation wireless networks and the massive digitalization of industries, the object of protection has changed. The digital transformation has led to an increased opportunity for cybercriminals. The ability of computational intelligence to quickly process large amounts of data makes the intrusions tailored to specific environments. Polymorphic attacks that have mutations in their sequences of acts adapt to the communication environments, operating systems and service frameworks, and also try to deceive the defense tools. The poor protection of most Internet of Things devices allows the attackers to take control over them creating the megabotnets. In this regard, traditional methods of network protection become rigid and low-effective. The paper reviews a computational intelligence (CI) enabled software- defined network (SDN) for the network management, providing dynamic network reconfiguration to improve network performance and security control. Advanced machine learning and artificial neural networks are promising in detection of false data injections. Bioinformatics methods make it possible to detect polymorphic attacks. Swarm intelligence detects dynamic routing anomalies. Quantum machine learning is effective at processing the large volumes of security-relevant datasets. The CI technology stack provides a comprehensive protection against a variative cyberthreats scope.

The Fog is an emergent computing architecture that will support the mobility and geographic distribution of Internet of Things (IoT) nodes and deliver context-aware applications with low latency to end-users. It forms an intermediate layer between IoT devices and the Cloud. However, Fog computing brings many requirements that increase the cost of security management. It inherits the security and trust issues of Cloud and acquires some of the vulnerable features of IoT that threaten data and application confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Several existing solutions address some of the security challenges following adequate adaptation, but others require new and innovative mechanisms. These reflect the need for a Fog architecture that provides secure access, efficient authentication, reliable and secure communication, and trust establishment among IoT devices and Fog nodes. The Fog might be more convenient to deploy decentralized authentication solutions for IoT than the Cloud if appropriately designed. In this short survey, we highlight the Fog security challenges related to IoT security requirements and architectural design. We conduct a comparative study of existing Fog architectures then perform a critical analysis of different authentication schemes in Fog computing, which confirms some of the fundamental requirements for effective authentication of IoT devices based on the Fog, such as decentralization, less resource consumption, and low latency.

Roy, P., Mazumdar, C..  2018.  Modeling of Insider Threat using Enterprise Automaton. 2018 Fifth International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology (EAIT). :1—4.
Substantial portions of attacks on the security of enterprises are perpetrated by Insiders having authorized privileges. Thus insider threat and attack detection is an important aspect of Security management. In the published literature, efforts are on to model the insider threats based on the behavioral traits of employees. The psycho-social behaviors are hard to encode in the software systems. Also, in some cases, there are privacy issues involved. In this paper, the human and non-human agents in a system are described in a novel unified model. The enterprise is described as an automaton and its states are classified secure, safe, unsafe and compromised. The insider agents and threats are modeled on the basis of the automaton and the model is validated using a case study.

Aiming at the requirements of network access control, illegal outreach control, identity authentication, security monitoring and application system access control of information network, an integrated network access and behavior control model based on security policy is established. In this model, the network access and behavior management control process is implemented through abstract policy configuration, network device and application server, so that management has device-independent abstraction, and management simplification, flexibility and automation are improved. On this basis, a general framework of policy-based access and behavior management control is established. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the method of device connection, data drive and fusion based on policy-based network access and behavior management control.

With the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), it has been widely deployed. As many embedded devices are connected to the network and massive amounts of security-sensitive data are stored in these devices, embedded devices in IoT have become the target of attackers. The trusted computing is a key technology to guarantee the security and trustworthiness of devices' execution environment. This paper focuses on security problems on IoT devices, and proposes a security architecture for IoT devices based on the trusted computing technology. This paper implements a security management system for IoT devices, which can perform integrity measurement, real-time monitoring and security management for embedded applications, providing a safe and reliable execution environment and whitelist-based security protection for IoT devices. This paper also designs and implements an embedded security protection system based on trusted computing technology, containing a measurement and control component in the kernel and a remote graphical management interface for administrators. The kernel layer enforces the integrity measurement and control of the embedded application on the device. The graphical management interface communicates with the remote embedded device through the TCP/IP protocol, and provides a feature-rich and user-friendly interaction interface. It implements functions such as knowledge base scanning, whitelist management, log management, security policy management, and cryptographic algorithm performance testing.

Navabi, S., Nayyar, A..  2020.  A Dynamic Mechanism for Security Management in Multi-Agent Networked Systems. IEEE INFOCOM 2020 - IEEE Conference on Computer Communications. :1628—1637.
We study the problem of designing a dynamic mechanism for security management in an interconnected multi-agent system with N strategic agents and one coordinator. The system is modeled as a network of N vertices. Each agent resides in one of the vertices of the network and has a privately known security state that describes its safety level at each time. The evolution of an agent's security state depends on its own state, the states of its neighbors in the network and on actions taken by a network coordinator. Each agent's utility at time instant t depends on its own state, the states of its neighbors in the network and on actions taken by a network coordinator. The objective of the network coordinator is to take security actions in order to maximize the long-term expected social surplus. Since agents are strategic and their security states are private information, the coordinator needs to incentivize agents to reveal their information. This results in a dynamic mechanism design problem for the coordinator. We leverage the inter-temporal correlations between the agents' security states to identify sufficient conditions under which an incentive compatible expected social surplus maximizing mechanism can be constructed. We then identify two special cases of our formulation and describe how the desired mechanism is constructed in these cases.
