Alrahis, Lilas, Patnaik, Satwik, Khalid, Faiq, Hanif, Muhammad Abdullah, Saleh, Hani, Shafique, Muhammad, Sinanoglu, Ozgur.  2021.  GNNUnlock: Graph Neural Networks-based Oracle-less Unlocking Scheme for Provably Secure Logic Locking. 2021 Design, Automation & Test in Europe Conference & Exhibition (DATE). :780–785.
Logic locking is a holistic design-for-trust technique that aims to protect the design intellectual property (IP) from untrustworthy entities throughout the supply chain. Functional and structural analysis-based attacks successfully circumvent state-of-the-art, provably secure logic locking (PSLL) techniques. However, such attacks are not holistic and target specific implementations of PSLL. Automating the detection and subsequent removal of protection logic added by PSLL while accounting for all possible variations is an open research problem. In this paper, we propose GNNUnlock, the first-of-its-kind oracle-less machine learning-based attack on PSLL that can identify any desired protection logic without focusing on a specific syntactic topology. The key is to leverage a well-trained graph neural network (GNN) to identify all the gates in a given locked netlist that belong to the targeted protection logic, without requiring an oracle. This approach fits perfectly with the targeted problem since a circuit is a graph with an inherent structure and the protection logic is a sub-graph of nodes (gates) with specific and common characteristics. GNNs are powerful in capturing the nodes' neighborhood properties, facilitating the detection of the protection logic. To rectify any misclassifications induced by the GNN, we additionally propose a connectivity analysis-based post-processing algorithm to successfully remove the predicted protection logic, thereby retrieving the original design. Our extensive experimental evaluation demonstrates that GNNUnlock is 99.24% - 100% successful in breaking various benchmarks locked using stripped-functionality logic locking [1], tenacious and traceless logic locking [2], and Anti-SAT [3]. Our proposed post-processing enhances the detection accuracy, reaching 100% for all of our tested locked benchmarks. Analysis of the results corroborates that GNNUnlock is powerful enough to break the considered schemes under different parameters, synthesis settings, and technology nodes. The evaluation further shows that GNNUnlock successfully breaks corner cases where even the most advanced state-of-the-art attacks [4], [5] fail. We also open source our attack framework [6].
Bhardwaj, Ankur, Akhter, Shamim.  2021.  Multi Feedback LFSR Based Watermarking of FSM. 2021 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication (ICSC). :357–361.
Many techniques are available nowadays, for Intellectual Property(IP) protection of Digital circuits. Out of these techniques, the popular one is watermarking. Similar to the watermarking used in case of text, image and video, watermarking of digital circuits also modifies a digital circuit design in such a way, that only the IP owner of design is able to extract the watermark form the design. In this paper, Multi – Feedback configuration of Linear Feedback Shift Register(LFSR) is used to watermark a FSM based design. This watermarking technique improves the watermark strength of already existing LFSR based watermarking technique. In terms of hardware utilization, it is significantly efficient than some popular watermarking techniques. The proposed technique has been implemented using Verilog HDL in Xilinx ISE and the simulation is done using ModelSim.

The protection of Intellectual Property (IP) has gradually increased in recent years. Traditional intellectual property management service has lower efficiency for such scale of data. Considering that the maturity of deep learning models has led to the development of knowledge graphs. Relevant researchers have investigated the application of knowledge graphs in different domains, such as medical services, social media, etc. However, few studies of knowledge graphs have been undertaken in the domain of intellectual property. In this paper, we introduce the process of building a domain knowledge graph and start from data preparation to conduct the research of named entity recognition.
Ying Zhou, Bing.  2021.  A Study of the Risk Prevention and Protection Establishment of the Intellectual Property Rights of the Cross-Border E-Commerce, Based on the Law-and-Economics Analytic Model. 2021 2nd International Conference on E-Commerce and Internet Technology (ECIT). :10–15.
With the high development of Internet technology and the global impacts of Covid-19, a trend of multiple growth is being shown in the business of cross-border e-commerce. The issue of intellectual property rights becomes more obvious in this new mode of trade than in others. China's "14th Five-Year Plan" marked the beginning to implement the strategy of the intellectual property rights for a powerful country. Through the law-and-economics analysis, this paper analyzes the research reports of China's Intellectual Property Court and American Chamber of Commerce, and finds it essential for the cross-border e-commerce to attach great importance to the risk control and protection of property rights. After the analysis and research, on the possible risk of intellectual property rights faced by cross-border e-commerce, it is proposed that enterprises must not only pay attention to but also actively identify and conduct risk warning of the legal risks of their own intellectual property rights as well as the causes of them, so as to put forward corresponding risk control measures and construct prevention and protection mechanisms.

In this strategy, the IoT environment was divided into IoT device, IoT network/communication, and IoT service/platform in line with the basic strategic framework of 'Pre-response-accident response-post-response', and the strategic direction of security control was established suitable for each of them.
Höglund, Joel, Raza, Shahid.  2021.  LICE: Lightweight certificate enrollment for IoT using application layer security. 2021 IEEE Conference on Communications and Network Security (CNS). :19–28.
To bring Internet-grade security to billions of IoT devices and make them first-class Internet citizens, IoT devices must move away from pre-shared keys to digital certificates. Public Key Infrastructure, PKI, the digital certificate management solution on the Internet, is inevitable to bring certificate-based security to IoT. Recent research efforts has shown the feasibility of PKI for IoT using Internet security protocols. New and proposed standards enable IoT devices to implement more lightweight solutions for application layer security, offering real end-to-end security also in the presence of proxies. In this paper we present LICE, an application layer enrollment protocol for IoT, an important missing piece before certificate-based security can be used with new IoT standards such as OSCORE and EDHOC. Using LICE, enrollment operations can complete by consuming less than 800 bytes of data, less than a third of the corresponding operations using state-of-art EST-coaps over DTLS. To show the feasibility of our solution, we implement and evaluate the protocol on real IoT hardware in a lossy low-power radio network environment.

This work will be used for giving some possible solutions for the attacks in different layers and we can stop them at the earliest.
Chu, Mingde, Song, Yufei.  2021.  Analysis of network security and privacy security based on AI in IOT environment. 2021 IEEE 4th International Conference on Information Systems and Computer Aided Education (ICISCAE). :390–393.
With the development of information technology, the Internet of things (IOT) has gradually become the third wave of global information industry revolution after computer and Internet. Artificial intelligence (AI) and IOT technology is an important prerequisite for the rapid development of the current information society. However, while AI and IOT technologies bring convenient and intelligent services to people, they also have many defects and imperfect development. Therefore, it is necessary to pay more attention to the development of AI and IOT technologies, actively improve the application system, and create a network security management system for AI and IOT applications that can timely detect intrusion, assess risk and prevent viruses. In this paper, the network security risks caused by AI and IOT applications are analyzed. Therefore, in order to ensure the security of IOT environment, network security and privacy security have become the primary problems to be solved, and management should be strengthened from technical to legal aspects.
Kim, Byoungkoo, Yoon, Seungyong, Kang, Yousung.  2021.  PUF-based IoT Device Authentication Scheme on IoT Open Platform. 2021 International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Convergence (ICTC). :1873–1875.
Recently, it is predicted that interworking between heterogeneous devices will be accelerated due to the openness of the IoT (Internet of Things) platform, but various security threats are also expected to increase. However, most IoT open platforms remain at the level that utilizes existing security technologies. Therefore, a more secure security technology is required to prevent illegal copying and leakage of important data through stealing, theft, and hacking of IoT devices. In addition, a technique capable of ensuring interoperability with existing standard technologies is required. This paper proposes an IoT device authentication method based on PUF (Physical Unclonable Function) that operates on an IoT open platform. By utilizing PUF technology, the proposed method can effectively respond to the threat of exposure of the authentication key of the existing IoT open platform. Above all, the proposed method can contribute to compatibility and interoperability with existing technologies by providing a device authentication method that can be effectively applied to the OCF Iotivity standard specification, which is a representative IoT open platform.
Kumar, Vinod, Jha, Rakesh Kumar, Jain, Sanjeev.  2021.  Security Issues in Narrowband-IoT: Towards Green Communication. 2021 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS). :369–371.
In the security platform of Internet of Things (IoT), a licensed Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technology, named Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is playing a vital role in transferring the information between objects. This technology is preferable for applications having a low data rate. As the number of subscribers increases, attack possibilities raise simultaneously. So securing the transmission between the objects becomes a big task. Bandwidth spoofing is one of the most sensitive attack that can be performed on the communication channel that lies between the access point and user equipment. This research proposal objective is to secure the system from the attack based on Unmanned Aerial vehicles (UAVs) enabled Small Cell Access (SCA) device which acts as an intruder between the user and valid SCA and investigating the scenario when any intruder device comes within the communication range of the NB-IoT enabled device. Here, this article also proposed a mathematical solution for the proposed scenario.
Asare, Bismark Tei, Quist-Aphetsi, Kester, Nana, Laurent, Simpson, Grace.  2021.  A nodal Authentication IoT Data Model for Heterogeneous Connected Sensor Nodes Within a Blockchain Network. 2021 International Conference on Cyber Security and Internet of Things (ICSIoT). :65–71.
Modern IoT infrastructure consists of different sub-systems, devices, applications, platforms, varied connectivity protocols with distinct operating environments scattered across different subsystems within the whole network. Each of these subsystems of the global system has its peculiar computational and security challenges. A security loophole in one subsystem has a directly negative impact on the security of the whole system. The nature and intensity of recent cyber-attacks within IoT networks have increased in recent times. Blockchain technology promises several security benefits including a decentralized authentication mechanism that addresses almost readily the challenges with a centralized authentication mechanism that has the challenges of introducing a single point of failure that affects data and system availability anytime such systems are compromised. The different design specifications and the unique functional requirements for most IoT devices require a strong yet universal authentication mechanism for multimedia data that assures an additional security layer to IoT data. In this paper, the authors propose a decentralized authentication to validate data integrity at the IoT node level. The proposed mechanism guarantees integrity, privacy, and availability of IoT node data.
Kabulov, Anvar, Saymanov, Islambek, Yarashov, Inomjon, Muxammadiev, Firdavs.  2021.  Algorithmic method of security of the Internet of Things based on steganographic coding. 2021 IEEE International IOT, Electronics and Mechatronics Conference (IEMTRONICS). :1–5.
In the Internet of Things, it is more important than ever to effectively address the problem of secure transmission based on steganographic substitution by synthesizing digital sensor data. In this case, the degree to which the grayscale message is obscured is a necessary issue. To ensure information security in IoT systems, various methods are used and information security problems are solved to one degree or another. The article proposes a method and algorithm for a computer image in grayscale, in which the value of each pixel is one sample, representing the amount of light, carrying only information about the intensity. The proposed method in grayscale using steganographic coding provides a secure implementation of data transmission in the IoT system. Study results were analyzed using PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio).
Uddin, Gias.  2021.  Security and Machine Learning Adoption in IoT: A Preliminary Study of IoT Developer Discussions. 2021 IEEE/ACM 3rd International Workshop on Software Engineering Research and Practices for the IoT (SERP4IoT). :36–43.
Internet of Things (IoT) is defined as the connection between places and physical objects (i.e., things) over the internet/network via smart computing devices. IoT is a rapidly emerging paradigm that now encompasses almost every aspect of our modern life. As such, it is crucial to ensure IoT devices follow strict security requirements. At the same time, the prevalence of IoT devices offers developers a chance to design and develop Machine Learning (ML)-based intelligent software systems using their IoT devices. However, given the diversity of IoT devices, IoT developers may find it challenging to introduce appropriate security and ML techniques into their devices. Traditionally, we learn about the IoT ecosystem/problems by conducting surveys of IoT developers/practitioners. Another way to learn is by analyzing IoT developer discussions in popular online developer forums like Stack Overflow (SO). However, we are aware of no such studies that focused on IoT developers’ security and ML-related discussions in SO. This paper offers the results of preliminary study of IoT developer discussions in SO. First, we collect around 53K IoT posts (questions + accepted answers) from SO. Second, we tokenize each post into sentences. Third, we automatically identify sentences containing security and ML-related discussions. We find around 12% of sentences contain security discussions, while around 0.12% sentences contain ML-related discussions. There is no overlap between security and ML-related discussions, i.e., IoT developers discussing security requirements did not discuss ML requirements and vice versa. We find that IoT developers discussing security issues frequently inquired about how the shared data can be stored, shared, and transferred securely across IoT devices and users. We also find that IoT developers are interested to adopt deep neural network-based ML models into their IoT devices, but they find it challenging to accommodate those into their resource-constrained IoT devices. Our findings offer implications for IoT vendors and researchers to develop and design novel techniques for improved security and ML adoption into IoT devices.

STAMP (System Theoretic Accident Model and Processes) is one of the theories that has been attracting attention as a new safety analysis method for complex systems. CAST (Causal Analysis using System Theory) is a causal analysis method based on STAMP theory. The authors investigated an information security incident case, “AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) report on unauthorized access to information systems,” and attempted accident analysis using CAST. We investigated whether CAST could be applied to the cyber security analysis. Since CAST is a safety accident analysis technique, this study was the first to apply CAST to cyber security incidents. Its effectiveness was confirmed from the viewpoint of the following three research questions. Q1:Features of CAST as an accident analysis method Q2:Applicability and impact on security accident analysis Q3:Understanding cyber security incidents with a five-layer model.

The intelligent cyber-physical system (CPS) has been applied in various fields, covering multiple critical infras-tructures and human daily life support areas. CPS Security is a major concern and of critical importance, especially the security of the intelligent control component. Side-channel analysis (SCA) is the common threat exploiting the weaknesses in system operation to extract information of the intelligent CPS. However, existing literature lacks the systematic theo-retical analysis of the side-channel attacks on the intelligent CPS, without the ability to quantify and measure the leaked information. To address these issues, we propose the SCA-based model extraction attack on intelligent CPS. First, we design an efficient and novel SCA-based model extraction framework, including the threat model, hierarchical attack process, and the multiple micro-space parallel search enabled weight extraction algorithm. Secondly, an information theory-empowered analy-sis model for side-channel attacks on intelligent CPS is built. We propose a mutual information-based quantification method and derive the capacity of side-channel attacks on intelligent CPS, formulating the amount of information leakage through side channels. Thirdly, we develop the theoretical bounds of the leaked information over multiple attack queries based on the data processing inequality and properties of entropy. These convergence bounds provide theoretical means to estimate the amount of information leaked. Finally, experimental evaluation, including real-world experiments, demonstrates the effective-ness of the proposed SCA-based model extraction algorithm and the information theory-based analysis method in intelligent CPS.
Ryabko, Boris.  2021.  Application of algorithmic information theory to calibrate tests of random number generators. 2021 XVII International Symposium "Problems of Redundancy in Information and Control Systems" (REDUNDANCY). :61–65.
Currently, statistical tests for random number generators (RNGs) are widely used in practice, and some of them are even included in information security standards. But despite the popularity of RNGs, consistent tests are known only for stationary ergodic deviations of randomness (a test is consistent if it detects any deviations from a given class when the sample size goes to infinity). However, the model of a stationary ergodic source is too narrow for some RNGs, in particular, for generators based on physical effects. In this article, we propose computable consistent tests for some classes of deviations more general than stationary ergodic and describe some general properties of statistical tests. The proposed approach and the resulting test are based on the ideas and methods of information theory.
Ilina, D. V., Eryshov, V. G..  2021.  Analytical Model of Actions of the Information Security Violator on Covert Extraction of Confidential Information Processed on the Protected Object. 2021 Wave Electronics and its Application in Information and Telecommunication Systems (WECONF). :1–4.
The article describes an analytical model of the actions of an information security violator for the secret extraction of confidential information processed on the protected object in terms of the theory of Markov random processes. The characteristics of the existing models are given, as well as the requirements that are imposed on the model for simulating the process. All model states are described in detail, as well as the data flow that is used in the process simulation. The model is represented as a directed state graph. It also describes the option for evaluating the data obtained during modeling. In the modern world, with the developing methods and means of covert extraction of information, the problem of assessing the damage that can be caused by the theft of the organization's data is acute. This model can be used to build a model of information security threats.
Selifanov, Valentin V., Doroshenko, Ivan E., Troeglazova, Anna V., Maksudov, Midat M..  2021.  Acceptable Variants Formation Methods of Organizational Structure and the Automated Information Security Management System Structure. 2021 XV International Scientific-Technical Conference on Actual Problems Of Electronic Instrument Engineering (APEIE). :631–635.
To ensure comprehensive information protection, it is necessary to use various means of information protection, distributed by levels and segments of the information system. This creates a contradiction, which consists in the presence of many different means of information protection and the inability to ensure their joint coordinated application in ensuring the protection of information due to the lack of an automated control system. One of the tasks that contribute to the solution of this problem is the task of generating a feasible organizational structure and the structure of such an automated control system, the results of which would provide these options and choose the one that is optimal under given initial parameters and limitations. The problem is solved by reducing the General task with particular splitting the original graph of the automated cyber defense control system into subgraphs. As a result, the organizational composition and the automated cyber defense management system structures will provide a set of acceptable variants, on the basis of which the optimal choice is made under the given initial parameters and restrictions. As a result, admissible variants for the formation technique of organizational structure and structure by the automated control system of cyber defense is received.
Min, Huang, Li, Cheng Yun.  2021.  Construction of information security risk assessment model based on static game. 2021 6th International Symposium on Computer and Information Processing Technology (ISCIPT). :647–650.
Game theory is a branch of modern mathematics, which is a mathematical method to study how decision-makers should make decisions in order to strive for the maximum interests in the process of competition. In this paper, from the perspective of offensive and defensive confrontation, using game theory for reference, we build a dynamic evaluation model of information system security risk based on static game model. By using heisani transformation, the uncertainty of strategic risk of offensive and defensive sides is transformed into the uncertainty of each other's type. The security risk of pure defense strategy and mixed defense strategy is analyzed quantitatively, On this basis, an information security risk assessment algorithm based on static game model is designed.

In this paper, we propose a numerical simulation investigation of the wavelength division multiplexing mechanism between a chaotic secure channel and a traditional fiber channel using the advanced modulation method DP-16QAM at the bitrate of 80Gbps, the fiber length of 80 km and 100 GHz channel spacing in C-band. Our paper investigates correlation coefficients between the transmitter and also the receiver for two forms of communication channels. Our simulation results demonstrate that, in all cases, BER is always below 2.10-4 even when we have not used the forward-error-correction method. Besides, cross-interaction between the chaotic channel and also the non-chaotic channel is negligible showing a highly independent level between two channels.

We propose and numerically demonstrate a novel secure key distribution scheme based on the chaos synchronization of two semiconductor lasers (SLs) subject to symmetrical double chaotic injections, which are outputted by two mutually-coupled semiconductor lasers. The results show that high quality chaos synchronization can be observed between two local SLs with suitable injection strength and identical injection time delays for Alice and Bob. On the basis of satisfactory chaos synchronization and a post-processing technology, identical secret keys for Alice and Bob are successfully generated with bit error ratio (BER) below the HD-FEC threshold of $^\textrm-3\$$\$.
Garcia, Daniel, Liu, Hong.  2021.  A Study of Post Quantum Cipher Suites for Key Exchange. 2021 IEEE International Symposium on Technologies for Homeland Security (HST). :1—7.
Current cryptographic solutions used in information technologies today like Transport Layer Security utilize algorithms with underlying computationally difficult problems to solve. With the ongoing research and development of quantum computers, these same computationally difficult problems become solvable within reasonable (polynomial) time. The emergence of large-scale quantum computers would put the integrity and confidentiality of today’s data in jeopardy. It then becomes urgent to develop, implement, and test a new suite of cybersecurity measures against attacks from a quantum computer. This paper explores, understands, and evaluates this new category of cryptosystems as well as the many tradeoffs among them. All the algorithms submitted to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for standardization can be categorized into three major categories, each relating to the new underlying hard problem: namely error code correcting, algebraic lattices (including ring learning with errors), and supersingular isogenies. These new mathematical hard problems have shown to be resistant to the same type of quantum attack. Utilizing hardware clock cycle registers, the work sets up the benchmarks of the four Round 3 NIST algorithms in two environments: cloud computing and embedded system. As expected, there are many tradeoffs and advantages in each algorithm for applications. Saber and Kyber are exceedingly fast but have larger ciphertext size for transmission over a wire. McEliece key size and key generation are the largest drawbacks but having the smallest ciphertext size and only slightly decreased performance allow a use case where key reuse is prioritized. NTRU finds a middle ground in these tradeoffs, being better than McEliece performance wise and better than Kyber and Saber in ciphertext size allows for a use case of highly varied environments, which need to value speed and ciphertext size equally. Going forward, the benchmarking system developed could be applied to digital signature, another vital aspect to a cryptosystem.
Asaithambi, Gobika, Gopalakrishnan, Balamurugan.  2021.  Design of Code and Chaotic Frequency Modulation for Secure and High Data rate Communication. 2021 5th International Conference on Computer, Communication and Signal Processing (ICCCSP). :1—6.
In Forward Error Correction (FEC), redundant bits are added for detecting and correcting bit error which increases the bandwidth. To solve this issue we combined FEC method with higher order M-ary modulation to provide a bandwidth efficient system. An input bit stream is mapped to a bi-orthogonal code on different levels based on the code rates (4/16, 3/16, and 2/16) used. The jamming attack on wireless networks are mitigated by Chaotic Frequency Hopping (CFH) spread spectrum technique. In this paper, to achieve better data rate and to transmit the data in a secured manner we combined FEC and CFH technique, represented as Code and Chaotic Frequency Modulation (CCFM). In addition, two rate adaptation algorithms namely Static retransmission rate ARF (SARF) and Fast rate reduction ARF (FARF) are employed in CFH technique to dynamically adapt the code rate based on channel condition to reduce a packet retransmission. Symbol Error Rate (SER) performance of the system is analyzed for different code rate with the conventional OFDM in the presence AWGN and Rayleigh channel and the reliability of CFH method is tested under different jammer.
