Are we allowed to land the drone during soil measurement, so that the probe is never detached from the drone even during measurement?

Re: Landing Drone During Soil Measurements

Hi Josh,

Great question! We thought about this when forming the rules, and here is my take on this.

If we allow the drone to land with the instrumentation, this in effect eliminates the object deployment challenges (needs to land vertical), as well as search and probe recovery component. This removes significant complexity, and will make the competition less interesting for the cyber-physical systems theme.

Teams will have to deploy the probe, hover for ~30 seconds, and then recover it, and then land at 'end' with the probe.

Makes sense?

Best,

JD
