Visible to the public Connected Highway and Vehicle Systems on Interstate 66

As reported by the local CSB affiliate in Washington, DC, Virginia DOT installed a "living laboratory" for connected infrastructure and vehicle technoloigy on Interstate 66. The USDOT is working with the State, Virginia Tech, and others on the development of the system.

As the FCC seeks to expand use of the 5.9 GHz spectrum provided for transportation applications, are there complementary uses that exploit the unusual architecture for communication hand offs as objects travel? For example, would it be useful for commonly carried personal objects to use 5.9 GHz, for exampel with expansion of artificial intelligence among more common objects (see "Talking, Walking Objects" in the New York Times).
