Visible to the public  2014 Cool Careers in Cybersecurity for Girls Workshop

The Maryland Cybersecurity Center is excited to partner with the National CyberWatch Center K-12 Division to host the Annual Cool Careers in Cyber Security Workshop for Girls. Throughout the day, middle school girls will rotate through different hands-on activities, all relating to solving an identity theft case of cybercrime. At each station, the girls will learn from female Cybersecurity professionals and leaders, including representatives from prestigious government organizations, defense contractors, and private companies.

The Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS) is the leading forum for interdisciplinary scholarship on information security and privacy, combining expertise from the fields of economics, social science, business, law, policy, and computer science. Prior workshops have explored the role of incentives between attackers and defenders of information systems, identified market failures surrounding Internet security, quantified risks of personal data disclosure, and assessed investments in cyber-defense.

More than 100 years ago, Lord Kelvin insightfully observed that measurement is vital to deep knowledge and understanding in physical science. During the last few decades, researchers have made various attempts to develop measures and systems of measurement for computer security with varying degrees of success. This paper provides an overview of the security metrics area and looks at possible avenues of research that could be pursued to advance the state of the art.
