Privacy and anonymity are increasingly important in the online world. Corporations and governments are starting to realize their power to track users and their behavior, and restrict the ability to publish or retrieve documents. Approaches to protecting individuals, groups, and even companies and governments from such profiling and censorship have included decentralization, encryption, and distributed trust.

EUROCRYPT 2003, the 20th Annual EUROCRYPT conference on the theory and applications of cryptologic techniques, was organized by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR). The conference was held on May 4 - May 8, 2003, in Warsaw, Poland.

ACSAC brings together cutting-edge researchers, with a broad cross-section of security professionals drawn from academia, industry, and government, gathered to present and discuss the latest security results and topics. With peer reviewed technical papers, invited talks, panels, national interest discussions, workshops, and professional development and training courses, ACSAC continues its core mission of investigating practical solutions for computer security technology.

After two years of planning and preparation, the conference has come and gone in the blink of an eye. Everyone who worked to make this a success performed without incident. We are eternally grateful to all those who made AsiaCrypt 2002 a huge success. In the end we had 147 attendees from 21 countries. In the next few days, we will add another feature to this site. This will hold the best of the more than 1,150 photos taken by James Hughes, Spike Quinn, Roland McKenzie and myself during the conference. For those who attended, we hope that you enjoy the photos.

The 2nd Internet Measurement Workshop was a two and a half day event held in Marseille, France, November 6-8, 2002, sponsored by ACM SIGCOMM and co-sponsored by USENIX. The workshop focussed on Internet measurement and analysis. Attendance was limited by the size of the meeting facilities to 100 participants.

Crypto 2002 was twenty-second in a series of workshops on cryptology held in Santa Barbara, California on August 18-22, 2002 and was sponsored by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), in cooperation with the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Security and Privacy, and the Computer Science Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara. The program for the workshop covered all aspects of cryptology.

The Computer Security Foundations Workshop was held during June 24--26, 2002 in Nova Scotia, Canada. This is an annual workshop with the purpose of "bring[ing] together researchers to explore fundamental issues in computer security." Every year since its inception, the workshop has been limited to forty participants, the majority of whom present papers or speak on panels. The setting is informal with plenty of time for technical discussion.

The 2002 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy was held in Oakland, California on May 12-15. The 2002 symposium marked the 23rd annual meeting of this flagship conference, the premier conference in the field of computer security.

This year's ACSAC will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans in Louisiana, USA.

ASIACRYPT 2001 was an international conference for all technical aspects of cryptology. ASIACRYPT 2001 was organized by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) in cooperation with the technical group on Information Security (ISEC) of Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, and the Computer Security group (CSEC) of Information Processing Society of Japan. ASIACRYPT 2001 was held on December 9-13, 2001 in Gold Coast, Australia.

The ACM SIGCOMM Internet Measurement Workshop is a two day event held in San Francisco, USA, November 1-2, 2001, focusing on Internet measurement and analysis. Attendance is limited and now closed. (Note: the workshop wound up having to be quite selective due to the volume of submissions, accepting only 26% of the 54 full-paper submissions and 45% of the 42 short-paper submissions.)
