Physical unclonable functions (PUFs) are used to create unique device identifiers from their inherent fabrication variability. Unstable readings and variation of the PUF response over time are key issues that limit the applicability of PUFs in real-world systems. In this project, we developed a fuzzy extractor (FE) to generate robust cryptographic keys from ReRAM-based PUFs. We tested the efficiency of the proposed FE using BCH and Polar error correction codes. We use ReRAM-based PUFs operating in pre-forming range to generate binary cryptographic keys at ultra-low power with an objective of tamper sensitivity. We investigate the performance of the proposed FE with real data using the reading of the resistance of pre-formed ReRAM cells under various noise conditions. The results show a bit error rate (BER) in the range of 10−5 for the Polar-codes based method when 10% of the ReRAM cell array is erroneous at Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of 20dB.This error rate is achieved by using helper data length of 512 bits for a 256 bit cryptographic key. Our method uses a 2:1 ratio for helper data and key, much lower than the majority of previously reported methods. This property makes our method more robust against helper data attacks.

Shuncheng, L., Jiajia, X., Jin, C., Jian, C., Lin, D., Lu, W..  2020.  Research on the Calibration Influence Factors of UHF Partial Discharge Detector. 2020 5th International Conference on Smart Grid and Electrical Automation (ICSGEA). :34—41.

Ultra high frequency (UHF) partial discharge detection technology has been widely used in on-line monitoring of electrical equipment, for the influence factors of UHF signal's transfer function is complicated, the calibration of UHF method is still not realized until now. In order to study the calibration influence factors of UHF partial discharge (PD) detector, the discharge mechanism of typical PD defects is analyzed, and use a PD UHF signal simulator with multiple adjustable parameters to simulate types of PD UHF signals of electrical equipment, then performed the relative experimental research in propagation characteristics and Sensor characteristics of UHF signals. It is concluded that the calibration reliability has big differences between UHF signal energy and discharge capacity of different discharge source. The calibration curve of corona discharge and suspended discharge which can representation the severity of equipment insulation defect more accurate, and the calibration curve of internal air gap discharge and dielectric surface discharge is poorer. The distance of UHF signal energy decays to stable period become smaller with increase of frequency, and the decay of UHF signal energy is irrelevant to its frequencies when the measuring angle is changing. The frequency range of measuring UHF signal depends on effective frequency range of measurement sensor, moreover, the gain and standing-wave ratio of sensor and the energy of the received signal manifested same change trend. Therefore, in order to calibration the UHF signal, it is necessary to comprehensive consideration the specific discharge type and measuring condition. The results provide the favorable reference for a further study to build the calibration system of UHF measuring method, and to promote the effective application of UHF method in sensor characteristic fault diagnosis and insulation evaluation of electrical equipment.

Li, X., Deng, M., Wang, X., Li, H., Yu, M..  2019.  Synthesis and magnetic properties of Fe-doped CdS nanorods. Micro Nano Letters. 14:275–279.
Hexagonal CdS and Fe-doped CdS nanorods were synthesised by a facile hydrothermal method and characterised by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption, photoluminescence, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The magnetic properties of undoped and Fe-doped CdS nanorods were investigated at room temperature. The experimental results demonstrate that the ferromagnetism of the Fe-doped CdS nanorods differs from that of the undoped CdS nanorods. The remanence magnetisation (Mr) and the coercive field (Hc) of the Fe-doped CdS nanorods were 4.9 × 10-3 emu/g and 270.6 Oe, respectively, while photoluminescence properties were not influenced by doping. First-principle calculations show that the ferromagnetism in Fe-doped CdS nanocrystal arose not only from the Fe dopants but also from the Cd vacancies, although the main contribution was due to the Fe dopants.

High-temperature magnetic properties of the anisotropic bulk SmCo7/Fe(Co) nanocomposite magnets prepared by multistep deformation have been investigated and compared with the corresponding isotropic nanocomposites. The anisotropic SmCo7/Fe(Co) nanocomposites with a Fe(Co) fraction of 28% exhibit much higher energy products than the corresponding isotropic nanocomposites at both room and high temperatures. These magnets show a small remanence (α = -0.022%/K) and a coercivity (β = -0.25%/K) temperature coefficient which can be comparable to those of the conventional SmCo5 and Sm2Co17 high-temperature magnets. The magnetic properties of these nanocomposites at high temperatures are sensitive to the weight fractions of the Fe(Co) phase. This paper demonstrates that the anisotropic bulk SmCo7/Fe(Co) nanocomposites have better high-temperature magnetic properties than the corresponding isotropic ones.

Huo, Weiqian, Pei, Jisheng, Zhang, Ke, Ye, Xiaojun.  2014.  KP-ABE with Attribute Extension: Towards Functional Encryption Schemes Integration. 2014 Sixth International Symposium on Parallel Architectures, Algorithms and Programming. :230—237.

To allow fine-grained access control of sensitive data, researchers have proposed various types of functional encryption schemes, such as identity-based encryption, searchable encryption and attribute-based encryption. We observe that it is difficult to define some complex access policies in certain application scenarios by using these schemes individually. In this paper, we attempt to address this problem by proposing a functional encryption approach named Key-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption with Attribute Extension (KP-ABE-AE). In this approach, we utilize extended attributes to integrate various encryption schemes that support different access policies under a common top-level KP-ABE scheme, thus expanding the scope of access policies that can be defined. Theoretical analysis and experimental studies are conducted to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed KP-ABE-AE. We also present an optimization for a special application of KP-ABE-AE where IPE schemes are integrated with a KP-ABE scheme. The optimization results in an integrated scheme with better efficiency when compared to the existing encryption schemes that support the same scope of access policies.

Hettiarachchi, Charitha, Do, Hyunsook.  2019.  A Systematic Requirements and Risks-Based Test Case Prioritization Using a Fuzzy Expert System. 2019 IEEE 19th International Conference on Software Quality, Reliability and Security (QRS). :374–385.

The use of risk information can help software engineers identify software components that are likely vulnerable or require extra attention when testing. Some studies have shown that the requirements risk-based approaches can be effective in improving the effectiveness of regression testing techniques. However, the risk estimation processes used in such approaches can be subjective, time-consuming, and costly. In this research, we introduce a fuzzy expert system that emulates human thinking to address the subjectivity related issues in the risk estimation process in a systematic and an efficient way and thus further improve the effectiveness of test case prioritization. Further, the required data for our approach was gathered by employing a semi-automated process that made the risk estimation process less subjective. The empirical results indicate that the new prioritization approach can improve the rate of fault detection over several existing test case prioritization techniques, while reducing threats to subjective risk estimation.

Kimmich, J. M., Schlesinger, A., Tschaikner, M., Ochmann, M., Frank, S..  2018.  Acoustical Analysis of Coupled Rooms Applied to the Deutsche Oper Berlin. 2018 Joint Conference - Acoustics. :1–9.
The aim of the project SIMOPERA is to simulate and optimize the acoustics in large and complex rooms, with special focus on the Deutsche Oper Berlin as an example of application. Firstly, characteristic subspaces of the opera are considered such as the orchestra pit, the stage and the auditorium. Special attention is paid to the orchestra pit, where high sound pressure levels can occur, leading to noise related risks for the musicians. However, lowering the sound pressure level in the orchestra pit should not violate other objectives as the propagation of sound into the auditorium, the balance between the stage performers and the orchestra across the hall, and the mutual audibility between performers and orchestra members. For that reason, a hybrid simulation method consisting of the wave-based Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Boundary Element Method (BEM) for low frequencies and geometrical methods like the mirror source method and ray tracing for higher frequencies is developed in order to determine the relevant room acoustic quantities such as impulse response functions, reverberation time, clarity, center time etc. Measurements in the opera will continuously accompany the numerical calculations. Finally, selected constructive means for reducing the sound level in the orchestra pit will be analyzed.

Ding, W., Wang, J., Lu, K., Zhao, R., Wang, X., Zhu, Y..  2017.  Optimal Cache Management and Routing for Secure Content Delivery in Information-Centric Networks with Network Coding. 2017 IEEE International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing with Applications and 2017 IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing and Communications (ISPA/IUCC). :267–274.

Information-Centric Network (ICN) is one of the most promising network architecture to handle the problem of rapid increase of data traffic because it allows in-network cache. ICNs with Linear Network Coding (LNC) can greatly improve the performance of content caching and delivery. In this paper, we propose a Secure Content Caching and Routing (SCCR) framework based on Software Defined Network (SDN) to find the optimal cache management and routing for secure content delivery, which aims to firstly minimize the total cost of cache and bandwidth consumption and then minimize the usage of random chunks to guarantee information theoretical security (ITS). Specifically, we firstly propose the SCCR problem and then introduce the main ideas of the SCCR framework. Next, we formulate the SCCR problem to two Linear Programming (LP) formulations and design the SCCR algorithm based on them to optimally solve the SCCR problem. Finally, extensive simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed SCCR framework and algorithms.

In this paper, cyber physical system is analyzed from security perspective. A double closed-loop security control structure and algorithm with defense functions is proposed. From this structure, the features of several cyber attacks are considered respectively. By this structure, the models of information disclosure, denial-of-service (DoS) and Man-in-the-Middle Attack (MITM) are proposed. According to each kind attack, different models are obtained and analyzed, then reduce to the unified models. Based on this, system security conditions are obtained, and a defense scenario with detail algorithm is design to illustrate the implementation of this program.

We present AVAMAT: AntiVirus and Malware Analysis Tool - a tool for analysing the malware detection capabilities of AntiVirus (AV) products running on different operating system (OS) platforms. Even though similar tools are available, such as VirusTotal and MetaDefender, they have several limitations, which motivated the creation of our own tool. With AVAMAT we are able to analyse not only whether an AV detects a malware, but also at what stage of inspection does it detect it and on what OS. AVAMAT enables experimental campaigns to answer various research questions, ranging from the detection capabilities of AVs on OSs, to optimal ways in which AVs could be combined to improve malware detection capabilities.

Ferraris, L., Franchini, F., Pošković, E..  2016.  Hybrid magnetic composite (HMC) materials for sensor applications. 2016 IEEE Sensors Applications Symposium (SAS). :1–6.

Several applications adopt electromagnetic sensors, that base their principle on the presence of magnets realized with specific magnetic materials that show a rather high remanence, but low coercivity. This work concerns the production, analysis and characterization of hybrid composite materials, with the use of metal powders, which aim to reach those specific properties. In order to obtain the best coercivity and remanence characteristics various "recipes" have been used with different percentages of soft and hard magnetic materials, bonded together by a plastic binder. The goal was to find out the interdependence between the magnetic powder composition and the characteristics of the final material. Soft magnetic material (special Fe powder) has been used to obtain a low coercivity value, while hard materials were primarily used for maintaining a good induction remanence; by increasing the soft proportion a higher magnetic permeability has been also obtained. All the selected materials have been characterized and then tested; in order to verify the validity of the proposed materials two practical tests have been performed. Special magnets have been realized for a comparison with original ones (AlNiCo and ferrite) for two experimental cases: the first is consisting in an encoder realized through a toothed wheel, the second regards the special system used for the electric guitars.

Chen, S., Wang, T., Ai, J..  2015.  A fair exchange and track system for RFID-tagged logistic chains. 2015 8th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics (BMEI). :661–666.

RFID (Radio-Frequency IDentification) is attractive for the strong visibility it provides into logistics operations. In this paper, we explore fair-exchange techniques to encourage honest reporting of item receipt in RFID-tagged supply chains and present a fair ownership transfer system for RFID-tagged supply chains. In our system, a receiver can only access the data and/or functions of the RFID tag by providing the sender with a cryptographic attestation of successful receipt; cheating results in a defunct tag. Conversely, the sender can only obtain the receiver's attestation by providing the secret keys required to access the tag.

H. Bahrami, K. Hajsadeghi.  2015.  "Circuit design to improve security of telecommunication devices". 2015 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech). :171-175.

Security in mobile handsets of telecommunication standards such as GSM, Project 25 and TETRA is very important, especially when governments and military forces use handsets and telecommunication devices. Although telecommunication could be quite secure by using encryption, coding, tunneling and exclusive channel, attackers create new ways to bypass them without the knowledge of the legitimate user. In this paper we introduce a new, simple and economical circuit to warn the user in cases where the message is not encrypted because of manipulation by attackers or accidental damage. This circuit not only consumes very low power but also is created to sustain telecommunication devices in aspect of security and using friendly. Warning to user causes the best practices of telecommunication devices without wasting time and energy for fault detection.
