Anju, J., Shreelekshmi, R..  2022.  An Enhanced Copy-deterrence scheme for Secure Image Outsourcing in Cloud. 2022 International Conference on Computing, Communication, and Intelligent Systems (ICCCIS). :97–102.
In this paper, we propose a novel watermarking-based copy deterrence scheme for identifying data leaks through authorized query users in secure image outsourcing systems. The scheme generates watermarks unique to each query user, which are embedded in the retrieved encrypted images. During unauthorized distribution, the watermark embedded in the image is extracted to determine the untrustworthy query user. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme achieves minimal information loss, faster embedding and better resistance to JPEG compression attacks compared with the state-of-the-art schemes.

A dual-image watermarking approach is presented in this research. The presented work utilizes the properties of Hessenberg decomposition, Redundant discrete wavelet transform (RDWT), Discrete cosine transform (DCT) and Singular value decomposition (SVD). For watermarking, the YCbCr color space is employed. Two watermark logos are for embedding. A YCbCr format conversion is performed on the RGB input image. The host image's Y and Cb components are divided into various sub-bands using RDWT. The Hessenberg decomposition is applied on high-low and low-high components. After that, SVD is applied to get dominant matrices. Two different logos are used for watermarking. Apply RDWT on both watermark images. After that, apply DCT and SVD to get dominant matrices of logos. Add dominant matrices of input host and watermark images to get the watermarked image. Average PSNR, MSE, Structural similarity index measurement (SSIM) and Normalized correlation coefficient (NCC) are used as the performance parameters. The resilience of the presented work is tested against various attacks such as Gaussian low pass filter, Speckle noise attack, Salt and Pepper, Gaussian noise, Rotation, Median and Average filter, Sharpening, Histogram equalization and JPEG compression. The presented scheme is robust and imperceptible when compared with other schemes.
Elbasi, Ersin.  2022.  A Robust Information Hiding Scheme Using Third Decomposition Layer of Wavelet Against Universal Attacks. 2022 IEEE World AI IoT Congress (AIIoT). :611–616.
Watermarking is one of the most common data hiding techniques for multimedia elements. Broadcasting, copy control, copyright protection and authentication are the most frequently used application areas of the watermarking. Secret data can be embedded into the cover image with changing the values of the pixels in spatial domain watermarking. In addition to this method, cover image can be converted into one of the transformation such as Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT), Discrete Cousin Transformation (DCT) and Discrete Fourier Transformation (DFT). Later on watermark can be embedded high frequencies of transformation coefficients. In this work, cover image transformed one, two and three level DWT decompositions. Binary watermark is hided into the low and high frequencies in each decomposition. Experimental results show that watermarked image is robust, secure and resist against several geometric attacks especially JPEG compression, Gaussian noise and histogram equalization. Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Similarity Ratio (SR) values show very optimal results when we compare the other frequency and spatial domain algorithms.

When storing face biometric samples in accordance with ISO/IEC 19794 as JPEG2000 encoded images, it is necessary to encrypt them for the sake of users’ privacy. Literature suggests selective encryption of JPEG2000 images as fast and efficient method for encryption, the trade-off is that some information is left in plaintext. This could be used by an attacker, in case the encrypted biometric samples are leaked. In this work, we will attempt to utilize a convolutional neural network to perform cryptanalysis of the encryption scheme. That is, we want to assess if there is any information left in plaintext in the selectively encrypted face images which can be used to identify the person. The chosen approach is to train CNNs for biometric face recognition not only with plaintext face samples but additionally conduct a refinement training with partially encrypted data. If this system can successfully utilize encrypted face samples for biometric matching, we can show that the information left in encrypted biometric face samples is information actually usable for biometric recognition. The method works and we can show that a supposedly secure biometric sample still contains identifying information on average over the whole database.

With the development of social networks, traditional covert communication requires more consideration of lossy processes of Social Network Platforms (SNPs), which is called robust steganography. Since JPEG compression is a universal processing of SNPs, a method using repeated JPEG compression to fit transport channel matching is recently proposed and shows strong compression-resist performance. However, the repeated JPEG compression will inevitably introduce other artifacts into the stego image. Using only traditional steganalysis methods does not work well towards such robust steganography under low payload. In this paper, we propose a simple and effective method to detect the mentioned steganography by chasing both steganographic perturbations as well as continuous compression artifacts. We introduce compression-forensic features as a complement to steganalysis features, and then use the ensemble classifier for detection. Experiments demonstrate that this method owns a similar and better performance with respect to both traditional and neural-network-based steganalysis.

Many portable imaging devices use the operation of "trunc" (rounding towards zero) instead of rounding as the final quantizer for computing DCT coefficients during JPEG compression. We show that this has rather profound consequences for steganography and its detection. In particular, side-informed steganography needs to be redesigned due to the different nature of the rounding error. The steganographic algorithm J-UNIWARD becomes vulnerable to steganalysis with the JPEG rich model and needs to be adjusted for this source. Steganalysis detectors need to be retrained since a steganalyst unaware of the existence of the trunc quantizer will experience 100% false alarm.
Mohamed, Nour, Rabie, Tamer, Kamel, Ibrahim.  2020.  IoT Confidentiality: Steganalysis breaking point for J-UNIWARD using CNN. 2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET). :1—4.
The Internet of Things (IoT) technology is being utilized in endless applications nowadays and the security of these applications is of great importance. Image based IoT applications serve a wide variety of fields such as medical application and smart cities. Steganography is a great threat to these applications where adversaries can use the images in these applications to hide malicious messages. Therefore, this paper presents an image steganalysis technique that employs Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to detect the infamous JPEG steganography technique: JPEG universal wavelet relative distortion (J-UNIWARD). Several experiments were conducted to determine the breaking point of J-UNIWARD, whether the hiding technique relies on correlation of the images, and the effect of utilizing Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) on the performance of the CNN. The results of the CNN display that the breaking point of J-UNIWARD is 1.5 (bpnzAC), the correlation of the database affects the detection accuracy, and DCT increases the detection accuracy by 13%.

In the course of the research, the research of discriminatory methods of handling video information resource based on the JPEG platform was carried out. This research showed a high interest of the scientific world in identifying important data at different phases of handling. However, the discriminatory handling of the video information resource after the quantization phase is not well understood. Based on the research data, the goal is to find possible ways to operation a video information resource based on a JPEG platform in order to identify important data in a telecommunications system. At the same time, the proposed strategies must provide the required pace of dynamic picture grade and hiding in the context of limited bandwidth. The fulfillment of the condition with limited bandwidth is achieved through the use of a lossless compression algorism based on arithmetic coding. The purpose of the study is considered to be achieved if the following requirements are met:1.Reduction of the volume of dynamic pictures by 30% compared to the initial amount;2.The quality pace is confirmed by an estimate of the peak signal-to-noise ratio for an authorized user, which is Ψauthor ≥ 20 dB;3.The pace of hiding is confirmed by an estimate of the peak signal-to-noise ratio for unauthorized access, which is Ψunauthor ≤ 9 dBThe first strategy is to use encryption tables. The advantage of this strategy is its high hiding strength. The second strategy is the important matrix method. The advantage of this strategy is higher performance. Thus, the goal of the study on the development of possible ways of handling a video information resource based on a JPEG platform in order to identify important data in a telecommunication system with the given requirements is achieved.

ICASSP 2021 - 2021 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP). :2580–2584.
When biometric databases grow larger, a security breach or leak can affect millions. In order to protect against such a threat, the use of encryption is a natural choice. However, a biometric identification attempt then requires the decryption of a potential huge database, making a traditional approach potentially unfeasible. The use of selective JPEG2000 encryption can reduce the encryption’s computational load and enable a secure storage of biometric sample data. In this paper we will show that selective encryption of face biometric samples is secure. We analyze various encoding settings of JPEG2000, selective encryption parameters on the "Labeled Faces in the Wild" database and apply several traditional and deep learning based face recognition methods.

Digital images are becoming the backbone of the social platform. To day of life of the people, the high impact of the images has raised the concern of its authenticity. Image forensics need to be done to assure the authenticity. In this paper, a novel technique is proposed for digital image forensics. The proposed technique is applied for detection of median, averaging and Gaussian filtering in the images. In the proposed method, a first image is normalized using optimal range to obtain a better statistical information. Further, difference arrays are calculated on the normalized array and a proposed thresholding is applied on the normalized arrays. In the last, co-occurrence features are extracted from the thresholding difference arrays. In experimental analysis, significant performance gain is achieved. The detection capability of the proposed method remains upstanding on small size images even with low quality JPEG compression.

Roy, Debaleena, Guha, Tanaya, Sanchez, Victor.  2021.  Graph Based Transforms based on Graph Neural Networks for Predictive Transform Coding. 2021 Data Compression Conference (DCC). :367–367.
This paper introduces the GBT-NN, a novel class of Graph-based Transform within the context of block-based predictive transform coding using intra-prediction. The GBT-NNis constructed by learning a mapping function to map a graph Laplacian representing the covariance matrix of the current block. Our objective of learning such a mapping functionis to design a GBT that performs as well as the KLT without requiring to explicitly com-pute the covariance matrix for each residual block to be transformed. To avoid signallingany additional information required to compute the inverse GBT-NN, we also introduce acoding framework that uses a template-based prediction to predict residuals at the decoder. Evaluation results on several video frames and medical images, in terms of the percentageof preserved energy and mean square error, show that the GBT-NN can outperform the DST and DCT.

Egorova, Anna, Fedoseev, Victor.  2020.  An ROI-Based Watermarking Technique for Image Content Recovery Robust Against JPEG. 2020 International Conference on Information Technology and Nanotechnology (ITNT). :1–6.
The paper proposes a method for image content recovery based on digital watermarking. Existing image watermarking systems detect the tampering and can identify the exact positions of tampered regions, but only a few systems can recover the original image content. In this paper, we suggest a method for recovering the regions of interest (ROIs). It embeds the semi-fragile watermark resistant to JPEG compression (for the quality parameter values greater than or equal to the predefined threshold) and such local tamperings as splicing, copy-move, and retouching, whereas is destroyed by any other image modifications. In the experimental part, the performance of the method is shown on the road traffic JPEG images where the ROIs correspond to car license plates. The method is proven to be an efficient tool for recovering the original ROIs and can be integrated into any JPEG semi-fragile watermarking system.

Using steganography for data hiding is becoming a main subject to ensure both information security and picture quality. Traditional steganography algorithms usually convert secret information into a binary string and embed it in the pixel data of the cover image. In order to ensure the information security as well as convenient transmission, this work studies the steganography algorithm of embedding the QR code containing secret information into the cover image, based on the JSteg algorithm. Secret messages with different sizes have been tested by many cover images and standard parameters have adopted to verify the efficiency. According to the experimental results, all the PSNR in a value that is greater than 47.6 dB. The proposed method has high security and more imperceptibility.

Boato, G., Dang-Nguyen, D., Natale, F. G. B. De.  2020.  Morphological Filter Detector for Image Forensics Applications. IEEE Access. 8:13549—13560.
Mathematical morphology provides a large set of powerful non-linear image operators, widely used for feature extraction, noise removal or image enhancement. Although morphological filters might be used to remove artifacts produced by image manipulations, both on binary and gray level documents, little effort has been spent towards their forensic identification. In this paper we propose a non-trivial extension of a deterministic approach originally detecting erosion and dilation of binary images. The proposed approach operates on grayscale images and is robust to image compression and other typical attacks. When the image is attacked the method looses its deterministic nature and uses a properly trained SVM classifier, using the original detector as a feature extractor. Extensive tests demonstrate that the proposed method guarantees very high accuracy in filtering detection, providing 100% accuracy in discriminating the presence and the type of morphological filter in raw images of three different datasets. The achieved accuracy is also good after JPEG compression, equal or above 76.8% on all datasets for quality factors above 80. The proposed approach is also able to determine the adopted structuring element for moderate compression factors. Finally, it is robust against noise addition and it can distinguish morphological filter from other filters.

It is challenging to detect weak hidden information in a JPEG compressed image. In this paper, we propose a 32-layer convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with feature reuse by concatenating all features from previous layers. The proposed method can improve the flow of gradient and information, and the shared features and bottleneck layers in the proposed CNN model further reduce the number of parameters dramatically. The experimental results shown that the proposed method significantly reduce the detection error rate compared with the existing JPEG steganalysis methods, e.g. state-of-the-art XuNet method and the conventional SCA-GFR method. Compared with XuNet method and conventional method SCA-GFR in detecting J-UNIWARD at 0.1 bpnzAC (bit per non-zero AC DCT coefficient), the proposed method can reduce detection error rate by 4.33% and 6.55% respectively.

A digital watermarking technique is an alternative method to protect the intellectual property of digital images. This paper presents a hybrid blind watermarking technique formulated by combining RDWT with SVD considering a trade-off between imperceptibility and robustness. Watermark embedding locations are determined using a modified entropy of the host image. Watermark embedding is employed by examining the orthogonal matrix U obtained from the hybrid scheme RDWT-SVD. In the proposed scheme, the watermark image in binary format is scrambled by Arnold chaotic map to provide extra security. Our scheme is tested under different types of signal processing and geometrical attacks. The test results demonstrate that the proposed scheme provides higher robustness and less distortion than other existing schemes in withstanding JPEG2000 compression, cropping, scaling and other noises.

Kin-Cleaves, Christy, Ker, Andrew D..  2018.  Adaptive Steganography in the Noisy Channel with Dual-Syndrome Trellis Codes. 2018 IEEE International Workshop on Information Forensics and Security (WIFS). :1–7.
Adaptive steganography aims to reduce distortion in the embedding process, typically using Syndrome Trellis Codes (STCs). However, in the case of non-adversarial noise, these are a bad choice: syndrome codes are fragile by design, amplifying the channel error rate into unacceptably-high payload error rates. In this paper we examine the fragility of STCs in the noisy channel, and consider how this can be mitigated if their use cannot be avoided altogether. We also propose an extension called Dual-Syndrome Trellis Codes, that combines error correction and embedding in the same Viterbi process, which slightly outperforms a straight-forward combination of standard forward error correction and STCs.

In this research project, we are interested by finding solutions to the problem of image analysis and processing in the encrypted domain. For security reasons, more and more digital data are transferred or stored in the encrypted domain. However, during the transmission or the archiving of encrypted images, it is often necessary to analyze or process them, without knowing the original content or the secret key used during the encryption phase. We propose to work on this problem, by associating theoretical aspects with numerous applications. Our main contributions concern: data hiding in encrypted images, correction of noisy encrypted images, recompression of crypto-compressed images and secret image sharing.

In recent years, various cloud-based services have been introduced in our daily lives, and information security is now an important topic for protecting the users. In the literature, many technologies have been proposed and incorporated into different services. Data hiding or steganography is a data protection technology, and images are often used as the cover data. On the other hand, steganalysis is an important tool to test the security strength of a steganography technique. So far, steganalysis has been used mainly for detecting the existence of secret data given an image, i.e., to classify if the given image is a normal or a stego image. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of identifying the locations of the embedded data if the a given image is suspected to be a stego image. The purpose is of two folds. First, we would like to confirm the decision made by the first level steganalysis; and the second is to provide a way to guess the size of the embedded data. Our experimental results show that in most cases the embedding positions can be detected. This result can be useful for developing more secure steganography technologies.

Cloud computing is a technology is where client require not to stress over the expense of equipment establishment and their support cost. Distributed computing is presently turned out to be most prominent innovation on account of its accessibility, ease and some different elements. Yet, there is a few issues in distributed computing, the principle one is security in light of the fact that each client store their valuable information on the system so they need their information ought to be shielded from any unapproved get to, any progressions that isn't done for client's benefit. To take care of the issue of Key administration, Key Sharing different plans have been proposed. The outsider examiner is the plan for key administration and key sharing. The primary preferred standpoint of this is the cloud supplier can encourage the administration which was accessible by the customary outsider evaluator and make it trustful. The outsider examining plan will be fizzled, if the outsider's security is endangered or of the outsider will be malignant. To take care of the issue, there is another modular for key sharing and key administration in completely Homomorphic Encryption conspire is outlined. In this paper we utilized the symmetric key understanding calculation named Diffie Hellman to make session key between two gatherings who need to impart and elliptic curve cryptography to create encryption keys rather than RSA and have utilized One Time Password (OTP) for confirming the clients.

In recent decades, a significant research effort has been devoted to the development of forensic tools for retrieving information and detecting possible tampering of multimedia documents. A number of counter-forensic tools have been developed as well in order to impede a correct analysis. Such tools are often very effective due to the vulnerability of multimedia forensics tools, which are not designed to work in an adversarial environment. In this scenario, developing forensic techniques capable of granting good performance even in the presence of an adversary aiming at impeding the forensic analysis, is becoming a necessity. This turns out to be a difficult task, given the weakness of the traces the forensic analysis usually relies on. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview of the advances made over the last decade in the field of adversarial multimedia forensics. We first consider the view points of the forensic analyst and the attacker independently, then we review some of the attempts made to simultaneously take into account both perspectives by resorting to game theory. Eventually, we discuss the hottest open problems and outline possible paths for future research.

The security of image steganography is an important basis for evaluating steganography algorithms. Steganography has recently made great progress in the long-term confrontation with steganalysis. To improve the security of image steganography, steganography must have the ability to resist detection by steganalysis algorithms. Traditional embedding-based steganography embeds the secret information into the content of an image, which unavoidably leaves a trace of the modification that can be detected by increasingly advanced machine-learning-based steganalysis algorithms. The concept of steganography without embedding (SWE), which does not need to modify the data of the carrier image, appeared to overcome the detection of machine-learning-based steganalysis algorithms. In this paper, we propose a novel image SWE method based on deep convolutional generative adversarial networks. We map the secret information into a noise vector and use the trained generator neural network model to generate the carrier image based on the noise vector. No modification or embedding operations are required during the process of image generation, and the information contained in the image can be extracted successfully by another neural network, called the extractor, after training. The experimental results show that this method has the advantages of highly accurate information extraction and a strong ability to resist detection by state-of-the-art image steganalysis algorithms.

Advances in virtual reality have generated substantial interest in accurately reproducing and storing spatial audio in the higher order ambisonics (HOA) representation, given its rendering flexibility. Recent standardization for HOA compression adopted a framework wherein HOA data are decomposed into principal components that are then encoded by standard audio coding, i.e., frequency domain quantization and entropy coding to exploit psychoacoustic redundancy. A noted shortcoming of this approach is the occasional mismatch in principal components across blocks, and the resulting suboptimal transitions in the data fed to the audio coder. Instead, we propose a framework where singular value decomposition (SVD) is performed after transformation to the frequency domain via the modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT). This framework not only ensures smooth transition across blocks, but also enables frequency dependent SVD for better energy compaction. Moreover, we introduce a novel noise substitution technique to compensate for suppressed ambient energy in discarded higher order ambisonics channels, which significantly enhances the perceptual quality of the reconstructed HOA signal. Objective and subjective evaluation results provide evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed framework in terms of both higher compression gains and better perceptual quality, compared to existing methods.
