The article deals with the development and implementation of a method for synthesizing structures of threats and risks to information security based on a fuzzy approach. We consider a method for modeling threat structures based on structural abstractions: aggregation, generalization, and Association. It is shown that the considered forms of structural abstractions allow implementing the processes of Ascending and Descending inheritance. characteristics of the threats. A database of fuzzy rules based on procedural abstractions has been developed and implemented in the fuzzy logic tool environment Fussy Logic.
It is a well-known fact that the use of Cloud Computing is becoming very common all over the world for data storage and analysis. But the proliferation of the threats in cloud is also their; threats like Information breaches, Data thrashing, Cloud account or Service traffic hijacking, Insecure APIs, Denial of Service, Malicious Insiders, Abuse of Cloud services, Insufficient due Diligence and Shared Technology Vulnerable. This paper tries to come up with the solution for the threat (Denial of Service) in cloud. We attempt to give our newly proposed model by the hybridization of Genetic algorithm and extension of Diffie Hellman algorithm and tries to make cloud transmission secure from upcoming intruders.
The paper presents a comprehensive model of cybersecurity threats for a system of autonomous and remotely controlled vehicles (AV) in the environment of a smart city. The main focus in the security context is given to the “integrity” property. That property is of higher importance for industrial control systems in comparison with other security properties (availability and confidentiality). The security graph, which is part of the model, is dynamic, and, in real cases, its analysis may require significant computing resources for AV systems with a large number of assets and connections. The simplified example of the security graph for the AV system is presented.
Nowadays, everyone is living in a digital world with various of virtual experiences and realities, but all of them may eventually cause real threats in our real world. Some of these threats have been born together with the first electronic mail service. Some of them might be considered as really basic and simple, compared to others that were developed and advanced in time to adapt themselves for the security defense mechanisms of the modern digital world. On a daily basis, more than 238.4 billion emails are sent worldwide, which makes more than 2.7 million emails per second, and these statistics are only from the publicly visible networks. Having that information and considering around 60% and above of all emails as threatening or not legitimate, is more than concerning. Unfortunately, even the modern security measures and systems are not capable to identify and prevent all the fraudulent content that is created and distributed every day. In this paper we will cover the most common attack vectors, involving the already mass email infrastructures, the required contra measures to minimize the impact over the corporate environments and what else should be developed to mitigate the modern sophisticated email attacks.
In the computer based solutions of the problems in today's world; if the problem has a high complexity value, different requirements can be addressed such as necessity of simultaneous operation of many computers, the long processing times for the operation of algorithms, and computers with hardware features that can provide high performance. For this reason, it is inevitable to use a computer based on quantum physics in the near future in order to make today's cryptosystems unsafe, search the servers and other information storage centers on internet very quickly, solve optimization problems in the NP-hard category with a very wide solution space and analyze information on large-scale data processing and to process high-resolution image for artificial intelligence applications. In this study, an examination of quantum approaches and quantum computers, which will be widely used in the near future, was carried out and the areas in which such innovation can be used was evaluated. Malicious or non-malicious use of quantum computers with this capacity, the advantages and disadvantages of the high performance which it provides were examined under the head of security, the effect of this recent technology on the existing security systems was investigated.
While advances in cyber-security defensive mechanisms have substantially prevented malware from penetrating into organizational Information Systems (IS) networks, organizational users have found themselves vulnerable to threats emanating from Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) vectors, mostly in the form of spear phishing. In this respect, the question of how an organizational user can differentiate between a genuine communication and a similar looking fraudulent communication in an email/APT threat vector remains a dilemma. Therefore, identifying and evaluating the APT vector attributes and assigning relative weights to them can assist the user to make a correct decision when confronted with a scenario that may be genuine or a malicious APT vector. In this respect, we propose an APT Decision Matrix model which can be used as a lens to build multiple APT threat vector scenarios to identify threat attributes and their weights, which can lead to systems compromise.
As one of the security components in cyber situational awareness systems, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is implemented by many organizations in their networks to address the impact of network attacks. Regardless of the tools and technologies used to generate security alarms, IDS can provide a situation overview of network traffic. With the security alarm data generated, most organizations do not have the right techniques and further analysis to make this alarm data more valuable for the security team to handle attacks and reduce risk to the organization. This paper proposes the IDS Metrics Framework for cyber situational awareness system that includes the latest technologies and techniques that can be used to create valuable metrics for security advisors in making the right decisions. This metrics framework consists of the various tools and techniques used to evaluate the data. The evaluation of the data is then used as a measurement against one or more reference points to produce an outcome that can be very useful for the decision making process of cyber situational awareness system. This metric offers an additional Graphical User Interface (GUI) tools that produces graphical displays and provides a great platform for analysis and decision-making by security teams.
There is widening chasm between the ease of creating software and difficulty of "building security in". This paper reviews the approach, the findings and recent experiments from a seven-year effort to enable consistency across a large, diverse development organization and software portfolio via policies, guidance, automated tools and services. Experience shows that developing secure software is an elusive goal for most. It requires every team to know and apply a wide range of security knowledge in the context of what software is being built, how the software will be used, and the projected threats in the environment where the software will operate. The drive for better outcomes for secure development and increased developer productivity led to experiments to augment developer knowledge and eventually realize the goal of "building the right security in".
The Internet of Things (IoT) devices perform security-critical operations and deal with sensitive information in the IoT-based systems. Therefore, the increased deployment of smart devices will make them targets for cyber attacks. Adversaries can perform malicious actions, leak private information, and track devices' and their owners' location by gaining unauthorized access to IoT devices and networks. However, conventional security protocols are not primarily designed for resource constrained devices and therefore cannot be applied directly to IoT systems. In this paper, we propose Boot-IoT - a privacy-preserving, lightweight, and scalable security scheme for limited resource devices. Boot-IoT prevents a malicious device from joining an IoT network. Boot-IoT enables a device to compute a unique identity for authentication each time the device enters a network. Moreover, during device to device communication, Boot-IoT provides a lightweight mutual authentication scheme that ensures privacy-preserving identity usages. We present a detailed analysis of the security strength of BootIoT. We implemented a prototype of Boot-IoT on IoT devices powered by Contiki OS and provided an extensive comparative analysis of Boot-IoT with contemporary authentication methods. Our results show that Boot-IoT is resource efficient and provides better scalability compared to current solutions.
