Liao, Mancheng.  2022.  Establishing a Knowledge Base of an Expert System for Criminal Investigation. 2022 3rd International Conference on Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Engineering (ICBAIE). :562—566.
In the information era, knowledge is becoming increasingly significant for all industries, especially criminal investigation that deeply relies on intelligence and strategies. Therefore, there is an urgent need for effective management and utilization of criminal investigation knowledge. As an important branch of knowledge engineering, the expert system can simulate the thinking pattern of an expert, proposing strategies and solutions based on the knowledge stored in the knowledge base. A crucial step in building the expert system is to construct the knowledge base, which determines the function and capability of the expert system. This paper establishes a practical knowledge base for criminal investigation, combining the technologies of cloud computing with traditional method of manual entry to acquire and process knowledge. The knowledge base covers data information and expert knowledge with detailed classification of rules and cases, providing answers through comparison and reasoning. The knowledge becomes more accurate and reliable after repeated inspection and verification by human experts.
Wenqi, Huang, Lingyu, Liang, Xin, Wang, Zhengguo, Ren, Shang, Cao, Xiaotao, Jiang.  2022.  An Early Warning Analysis Model of Metering Equipment Based on Federated Hybrid Expert System. 2022 15th International Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Design (ISCID). :217—220.
The smooth operation of metering equipment is inseparable from the monitoring and analysis of equipment alarm events by automated metering systems. With the generation of big data in power metering and the increasing demand for information security of metering systems in the power industry, how to use big data and protect data security at the same time has become a hot research field. In this paper, we propose a hybrid expert model based on federated learning to deal with the problem of alarm information analysis and identification. The hybrid expert system can divide the metering warning problem into multiple sub-problems for processing, which greatly improves the recognition and prediction accuracy. The experimental results show that our model has high accuracy in judging and identifying equipment faults.

Technology advancement also increases the risk of a computer's security. As we can have various mechanisms to ensure safety but still there have flaws. The main concerned area is user authentication. For authentication, various biometric applications are used but once authentication is done in the begging there was no guarantee that the computer system is used by the authentic user or not. The intrusion detection system (IDS) is a particular procedure that is used to identify intruders by analyzing user behavior in the system after the user logged in. Host-based IDS monitors user behavior in the computer and identify user suspicious behavior as an intrusion or normal behavior. This paper discusses how an expert system detects intrusions using a set of rules as a pattern recognized engine. We propose a PIDE (Pattern Based Intrusion Detection) model, which is verified previously implemented SBID (Statistical Based Intrusion Detection) model. Experiment results indicate that integration of SBID and PBID approach provides an extensive system to detect intrusion.

Due to geographical locations of Indonesia, some technology such as hydro and solar photovoltaics are very attractive to be used and developed. Distribution Energy Resources (DER) is the appropriate schemes implemented to achieve optimal operation respecting the location and capacity of the plant. The Gorontalo sub-system network was chosen as a case study considering both of micro-hydro and PV as contributed to supply the grid. The needs of a smart electrical system are required to improve reliability, power quality, and adaptation to any circumstances during DER application. While the topology was changing over time, intermittent of DER output and bidirectional power flow can be overcome with smart grid systems. In this study, an automation algorithm has been conducted to aid the engineers in solving the protection problems caused by DER implementation. The Protection Security Assessment (PSA) method is used to evaluate the state of the protection system. Determine the relay settings using an adaptive rule-based method on expert systems. The application with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed to make user easier to get the specific relay settings and locations which are sensitive, fast, reliable, and selective.

In this research, we examine and develop an expert system with a mechanism to automate crime category classification and threat level assessment, using the information collected by crawling the dark web. We have constructed a bag of words from 250 posts on the dark web and developed an expert system which takes the frequency of terms as an input and classifies sample posts into 6 criminal category dealing with drugs, stolen credit card, passwords, counterfeit products, child porn and others, and 3 threat levels (high, middle, low). Contrary to prior expectations, our simple and explainable expert system can perform competitively with other existing systems. For short, our experimental result with 1500 posts on the dark web shows 76.4% of recall rate for 6 criminal category classification and 83% of recall rate for 3 threat level discrimination for 100 random-sampled posts.

Jharko, Elena, Promyslov, Vitaly, Iskhakov, Andrey.  2019.  Extending Functionality of Early Fault Diagnostic System for Online Security Assessment of Nuclear Power Plant. 2019 International Russian Automation Conference (RusAutoCon). :1–6.

The new instrumentation and control (I&C) systems of the nuclear power plants (NPPs) improve the ability to operate the plant enhance the safety and performance of the NPP. However, they bring a new type of threat to the NPP's industry-cyber threat. The early fault diagnostic system (EDS) is one of the decision support systems that might be used online during the operation stage. The EDS aim is to prevent the incident/accident evolution by a timely troubleshooting process during any plant operational modes. It means that any significative deviation of plant parameters from normal values is pointed-out to plant operators well before reaching any undesired threshold potentially leading to a prohibited plant state, together with the cause that has generated the deviation. The paper lists the key benefits using the EDS to counter the cyber threat and proposes the framework for cybersecurity assessment using EDS during the operational stage.

The paper discusses the architectural, algorithmic and computing aspects of creating and operating a class of expert system for managing technological safety of an enterprise, in conditions of a large flow of diagnostic variables. The algorithm for finding a faulty technological chain uses expert information, formed as a set of evidence on the influence of diagnostic variables on the correctness of the technological process. Using the Dempster-Schafer trust function allows determining the overall probability measure on subsets of faulty process chains. To combine different evidence, the orthogonal sums of the base probabilities determined for each evidence are calculated. The procedure described above is converted into the rules of the knowledge base production. The description of the developed prototype of the expert system, its architecture, algorithmic and software is given. The functionality of the expert system and configuration tools for a specific type of production are under discussion.

Khokhlov, Igor, Jain, Chinmay, Miller-Jacobson, Ben, Heyman, Andrew, Reznik, Leonid, Jacques, Robert St..  2018.  MeetCI: A Computational Intelligence Software Design Automation Framework. 2018 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE). :1-8.

Computational Intelligence (CI) algorithms/techniques are packaged in a variety of disparate frameworks/applications that all vary with respect to specific supported functionality and implementation decisions that drastically change performance. Developers looking to employ different CI techniques are faced with a series of trade-offs in selecting the appropriate library/framework. These include resource consumption, features, portability, interface complexity, ease of parallelization, etc. Considerations such as language compatibility and familiarity with a particular library make the choice of libraries even more difficult. The paper introduces MeetCI, an open source software framework for computational intelligence software design automation that facilitates the application design decisions and their software implementation process. MeetCI abstracts away specific framework details of CI techniques designed within a variety of libraries. This allows CI users to benefit from a variety of current frameworks without investigating the nuances of each library/framework. Using an XML file, developed in accordance with the specifications, the user can design a CI application generically, and utilize various CI software without having to redesign their entire technology stack. Switching between libraries in MeetCI is trivial and accessing the right library to satisfy a user's goals can be done easily and effectively. The paper discusses the framework's use in design of various applications. The design process is illustrated with four different examples from expert systems and machine learning domains, including the development of an expert system for security evaluation, two classification problems and a prediction problem with recurrent neural networks.

The growing prevalence of cyber threats in the world are affecting every network user. Numerous security monitoring systems are being employed to protect computer networks and resources from falling victim to cyber-attacks. There is a pressing need to have an efficient security monitoring system to monitor the large network datasets generated in this process. A large network datasets representing Malware attacks have been used in this work to establish an expert system. The characteristics of attacker's IP addresses can be extracted from our integrated datasets to generate statistical data. The cyber security expert provides to the weight of each attribute and forms a scoring system by annotating the log history. We adopted a special semi supervise method to classify cyber security log into attack, unsure and no attack by first breaking the data into 3 cluster using Fuzzy K mean (FKM), then manually label a small data (Analyst Intuition) and finally train the neural network classifier multilayer perceptron (MLP) base on the manually labelled data. By doing so, our results is very encouraging as compare to finding anomaly in a cyber security log, which generally results in creating huge amount of false detection. The method of including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Analyst Intuition (AI) is also known as AI2. The classification results are encouraging in segregating the types of attacks.

Many accidents occurred frequently in aerospace applications, traditional software reliability analysis methods are not enough for modern flight control software. Developing a comprehensive, effective and intelligent method for software fault diagnosis is urgent for airborne software engineering. Under this background, we constructed a fault diagnosis expert system for flight control software which combines software failure mode and effect analysis with software fault tree analysis. To simplify the analysis, the software fault knowledge of four modules is acquired by reliability analysis methods. Then by taking full advantage of the CLIPS shell, knowledge representation and inference engine can be realized smoothly. Finally, we integrated CLIPS into VC++ to achieve visualization, fault diagnosis and inference for flight control software can be performed in the human-computer interaction interface. The results illustrate that the system is able to diagnose software fault, analysis the reasons and present some reasonable solutions like a human expert.
