In recent years, cyber-attacks on modern industrial control systems (ICS) have become more common and it acts as a victim to various kind of attackers. The percentage of attacked ICS computers in the world in 2021 is 39.6%. To identify the anomaly in a large database system is a challenging task. Deep-learning model provides better solutions for handling the huge dataset with good accuracy. On the other hand, real time datasets are highly imbalanced with their sample proportions. In this research, GAN based model, a supervised learning method which generates new fake samples that is similar to real samples has been proposed. GAN based adversarial training would address the class imbalance problem in real time datasets. Adversarial samples are combined with legitimate samples and shuffled via proper proportion and given as input to the classifiers. The generated data samples along with the original ones are classified using various machine learning classifiers and their performances have been evaluated. Gradient boosting was found to classify with 98% accuracy when compared to other

In recent years, generative adversarial networks (GAN) have become a research hotspot in the field of deep learning. Researchers apply them to the field of anomaly detection and are committed to effectively and accurately identifying abnormal images in practical applications. In anomaly detection, traditional supervised learning algorithms have limitations in training with a large number of known labeled samples. Therefore, the anomaly detection model of unsupervised learning GAN is the research object for discussion and research. Firstly, the basic principles of GAN are introduced. Secondly, several typical GAN-based anomaly detection models are sorted out in detail. Then by comparing the similarities and differences of each derivative model, discuss and summarize their respective advantages, limitations and application scenarios. Finally, the problems and challenges faced by GAN in anomaly detection are discussed, and future research directions are prospected.

To exploit high temporal correlations in video frames of the same scene, the current frame is predicted from the already-encoded reference frames using block-based motion estimation and compensation techniques. While this approach can efficiently exploit the translation motion of the moving objects, it is susceptible to other types of affine motion and object occlusion/deocclusion. Recently, deep learning has been used to model the high-level structure of human pose in specific actions from short videos and then generate virtual frames in future time by predicting the pose using a generative adversarial network (GAN). Therefore, modelling the high-level structure of human pose is able to exploit semantic correlation by predicting human actions and determining its trajectory. Video surveillance applications will benefit as stored “big” surveillance data can be compressed by estimating human pose trajectories and generating future frames through semantic correlation. This paper explores a new way of video coding by modelling human pose from the already-encoded frames and using the generated frame at the current time as an additional forward-referencing frame. It is expected that the proposed approach can overcome the limitations of the traditional backward-referencing frames by predicting the blocks containing the moving objects with lower residuals. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach can achieve on average up to 2.83 dB PSNR gain and 25.93% bitrate savings for high motion video sequences compared to standard video coding.

Due to the simplicity of implementation and high threat level, SQL injection attacks are one of the oldest, most prevalent, and most destructive types of security attacks on Web-based information systems. With the continuous development and maturity of artificial intelligence technology, it has been a general trend to use AI technology to detect SQL injection. The selection of the sample set is the deciding factor of whether AI algorithms can achieve good results, but dataset with tagged specific category labels are difficult to obtain. This paper focuses on data augmentation to learn similar feature representations from the original data to improve the accuracy of classification models. In this paper, deep convolutional generative adversarial networks combined with genetic algorithms are applied to the field of Web vulnerability attacks, aiming to solve the problem of insufficient number of SQL injection samples. This method is also expected to be applied to sample generation for other types of vulnerability attacks.

Swarm learning (SL) is an emerging promising decentralized machine learning paradigm and has achieved high performance in clinical applications. SL solves the problem of a central structure in federated learning by combining edge computing and blockchain-based peer-to-peer network. While there are promising results in the assumption of the independent and identically distributed (IID) data across participants, SL suffers from performance degradation as the degree of the non-IID data increases. To address this problem, we propose a generative augmentation framework in swarm learning called SL-GAN, which augments the non-IID data by generating the synthetic data from participants. SL-GAN trains generators and discriminators locally, and periodically aggregation via a randomly elected coordinator in SL network. Under the standard assumptions, we theoretically prove the convergence of SL-GAN using stochastic approximations. Experimental results demonstrate that SL-GAN outperforms state-of-art methods on three real world clinical datasets including Tuberculosis, Leukemia, COVID-19.

With the advancement in Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), it has become easier than ever to generate fake images. These images are more realistic and non-discernible by untrained eyes and can be used to propagate fake information on the Internet. In this paper, we propose a novel method to detect GAN generated fake images by using a combination of frequency spectrum of image and deep learning. We apply Discrete Fourier Transform to each of 3 color channels of the image to obtain its frequency spectrum which shows if the image has been upsampled, a common trend in most GANs, and then train a Capsule Network model with it. Conducting experiments on a dataset of almost 1000 images based on Unconditional data modeling (StyleGan2 - ADA) gave results indicating that the model is promising with accuracy over 99% when trained on the state-of-the-art GAN model. In theory, our model should give decent results when trained with one dataset and tested on another.

Document-level relation extraction (RE) aims to extract relations among entities within a document, which is more complex than its sentence-level counterpart, especially in biomedical text mining. Chemical-disease relation (CDR) extraction aims to extract complex semantic relationships between chemicals and diseases entities in documents. In order to identify the relations within and across multiple sentences at the same time, existing methods try to build different document-level heterogeneous graph. However, the entity relation representations captured by these models do not make full use of the document information and disregard the noise introduced in the process of integrating various information. In this paper, we propose a novel model DAM-GAN to document-level biomedical RE, which can extract entity-level and mention-level representations of relation instances with R-GCN and Dual-Attention Multi-Instance Learning (DAM) respectively, and eliminate the noise with Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). Entity-level representations of relation instances model the semantic information of all entity pairs from the perspective of the whole document, while the mention-level representations from the perspective of mention pairs related to these entity pairs in different sentences. Therefore, entity- and mention-level representations can be better integrated to represent relation instances. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves superior performance on public document-level biomedical RE dataset BioCreative V Chemical Disease Relation(CDR).

Image style transfer refers to the transformation of the style of image, so that the image details are retained to the maximum extent while the style is transferred. Aiming at the problem of low clarity of style transfer images generated by CycleGAN network, this paper improves the CycleGAN network. In this paper, the network model of auto-encoder and variational auto-encoder is added to the structure. The encoding part of the auto-encoder is used to extract image content features, and the variational auto-encoder is used to extract style features. At the same time, the generating network of the model in this paper uses first to adjust the image size and then perform the convolution operation to replace the traditional deconvolution operation. The discriminating network uses a multi-scale discriminator to force the samples generated by the generating network to be more realistic and approximate the target image, so as to improve the effect of image style transfer.

With the rapid development of communication net-work, the types and quantities of network traffic data have in-creased substantially. What followed was the frequent occurrence of versatile cyber attacks. As an important part of network security, the network-based intrusion detection system (NIDS) can monitor and protect the network equippments and terminals in real time. The traditional detection methods based on deep learning (DL) are always in supervised manners in NIDS, which can automatically build end-to-end detection model without man-ual feature extraction and selection by domain experts. However, supervised learning methods require large-scale labeled data, yet capturing large labeled datasets is a very cubersome, tedious and time-consuming manual task. Instead, unsupervised learning is an effective way to overcome this problem. Nonetheless, the ex-isting unsupervised methods are prone to low detection efficiency and are difficult to train. In this paper we propose a novel NIDS method called PGAN based on generative adversarial network (GAN) to detect the abnormal traffic from the perspective of Anomaly Detection, which leverage the competitive speciality of adversarial training to learn the normal traffic. Based on the public dataset CICIDS2017, three experimental results show that PGAN can significantly outperform other unsupervised methods like stacked autoencoder (SAE) and isolation forest (IF).

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are machine learning methods that are used in many important and novel applications. For example, in imaging science, GANs are effectively utilized in generating image datasets, photographs of human faces, image and video captioning, image-to-image translation, text-to-image translation, video prediction, and 3D object generation to name a few. In this paper, we discuss how GANs can be used to create an artificial world. More specifically, we discuss how GANs help to describe an image utilizing image/video captioning methods and how to translate the image to a new image using image-to-image translation frameworks in a theme we desire. We articulate how GANs impact creating a customized world.

Enhancement of the vanilla generative adversarial network (GAN) to preserve data variability in the presence of real world noise is of paramount significance in deep learning. In this study, we proposed a new distance metric of cosine distance in the framework of optimal transport (OT), and presented and validated a convolutional neural network (CNN) based GAN framework. In comparison with state-of-the-art methods based on Graphics Processing Units (GPU), the proposed framework could maintain the data diversity and quality best in terms of inception score (IS), Fréchet inception distance (FID) and enhancing the classification network of bone age, and is robust to noise degradation. The proposed framework is independent of hardware and thus could also be extended to more advanced hardware such as specialized Tensor Processing Units (TPU), and could be a potential built-in component of a general deep learning networks for such applications as image classification, segmentation, registration, and object detection.

Insider threats are the cyber attacks from the trusted entities within an organization. An insider attack is hard to detect as it may not leave a footprint and potentially cause huge damage to organizations. Anomaly detection is the most common approach for insider threat detection. Lack of real-world data and the skewed class distribution in the datasets makes insider threat analysis an understudied research area. In this paper, we propose a Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (CGAN) to enrich under-represented minority class samples to provide meaningful and diverse data for anomaly detection from the original malicious scenarios. Comprehensive experiments performed on benchmark dataset demonstrates the effectiveness of using CGAN augmented data, and the capability of multi-class anomaly detection for insider activity analysis. Moreover, the method is compared with other existing methods against different parameters and performance metrics.

With the development of deep learning technology, a large number of new technologies for video anomaly detection have emerged. This paper proposes a video anomaly detection algorithm based on the future frame prediction using Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) and attention mechanism. For the generation model, a U-Net model, is modified and added with an attention module. For the discrimination model, a Markov GAN discrimination model with self-attention mechanism is proposed, which can affect the generator and improve the generation quality of the future video frame. Experiments show that the new video anomaly detection algorithm improves the detection performance, and the attention module plays an important role in the overall detection performance. It is found that the more the attention modules are appliedthe deeper the application level is, the better the detection effect is, which also verifies the rationality of the model structure used in this project.

Nowadays, with the increasing use of computers and the Internet, more people are exposed to cyber-security dangers. According to antivirus companies, malware is one of the most common threats of using the Internet. Therefore, providing a practical solution is critical. Current methods use machine learning approaches to classify malware samples automatically. Despite the success of these approaches, the accuracy and efficiency of these techniques are still inadequate, especially for multiple class classification problems and imbalanced training data sets. To mitigate this problem, we use deep learning-based algorithms for classification and generation of new malware samples. Our model is based on the opcode sequences, which are given to the model without any pre-processing. Besides, we use a novel generative adversarial network to generate new opcode sequences for oversampling minority classes. Also, we propose the model that is a combination of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) to classify malware samples. CNN is used to consider short-term dependency between features; while, LSTM is used to consider longer-term dependence. The experiment results show our method could classify malware to their corresponding family effectively. Our model achieves 98.99% validation accuracy.

While machine learning technologies have been remarkably advanced over the past several years, one of the fundamental requirements for the success of learning-based approaches would be the availability of high-quality data that thoroughly represent individual classes in a problem space. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to observe a significant degree of class imbalance with only a few instances for minority classes in many datasets, including network traffic traces highly skewed toward a large number of normal connections while very small in quantity for attack instances. A well-known approach to addressing the class imbalance problem is data augmentation that generates synthetic instances belonging to minority classes. However, traditional statistical techniques may be limited since the extended data through statistical sampling should have the same density as original data instances with a minor degree of variation. This paper takes a learning-based approach to data augmentation to enable effective network anomaly detection. One of the critical challenges for the learning-based approach is the mode collapse problem resulting in a limited diversity of samples, which was also observed from our preliminary experimental result. To this end, we present a novel "Divide-Augment-Combine" (DAC) strategy, which groups the instances based on their characteristics and augments data on a group basis to represent a subset independently using a generative adversarial model. Our experimental results conducted with two recently collected public network datasets (UNSW-NB15 and IDS-2017) show that the proposed technique enhances performances up to 21.5% for identifying network anomalies.

Machine learning techniques help to understand underlying patterns in datasets to develop defense mechanisms against cyber attacks. Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) technique is a machine learning technique used in detecting attack vs. benign data. However, it is difficult to construct any effective model when there are imbalances in the dataset that prevent proper classification of attack samples in data. In this research, we use UGR'16 dataset to conduct data wrangling initially. This technique helps to prepare a test set from the original dataset to train the neural network model effectively. We experimented with a series of inputs of varying sizes (i.e. 10000, 50000, 1 million) to observe the performance of the MLP neural network model with distribution of features over accuracy. Later, we use Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) model that produces samples of different attack labels (e.g. blacklist, anomaly spam, ssh scan) for balancing the dataset. These samples are generated based on data from the UGR'16 dataset. Further experiments with MLP neural network model shows that a balanced attack sample dataset, made possible with GAN, produces more accurate results than an imbalanced one.

"Deepfake" it is an incipiently emerging face video forgery technique predicated on AI technology which is used for creating the fake video. It takes images and video as source and it coalesces these to make a new video using the generative adversarial network and the output is very convincing. This technique is utilized for generating the unauthentic spurious video and it is capable of making it possible to generate an unauthentic spurious video of authentic people verbally expressing and doing things that they never did by swapping the face of the person in the video. Deepfake can create disputes in countries by influencing their election process by defaming the character of the politician. This technique is now being used for character defamation of celebrities and high-profile politician just by swapping the face with someone else. If it is utilized in unethical ways, this could lead to a serious problem. Someone can use this technique for taking revenge from the person by swapping face in video and then posting it to a social media platform. In this paper, working of Deepfake technique along with how it can swap faces with maximum precision in the video has been presented. Further explained are the different ways through which we can identify if the video is generated by Deepfake and its advantages and drawback have been listed.

Style transfer is an emerging trend in the fields of deep learning's applications, especially in images and audio data this is proven very useful and sometimes the results are astonishing. Gradually styles of textual data are also being changed in many novel works. This paper focuses on the transfer of the sentimental vibe of a sentence. Given a positive clause, the negative version of that clause or sentence is generated keeping the context same. The opposite is also done with negative sentences. Previously this was a very tough job because the go-to techniques for such tasks such as Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) [1] and Long Short-Term Memories(LSTMs) [2] can't perform well with it. But since newer technologies like Generative Adversarial Network(GAN) and Variational AutoEncoder(VAE) are emerging, this work seem to become more and more possible and effective. In this paper, Multi-Genarative Variational Auto-Encoder is employed to transfer sentiment values. Inspite of working with a small dataset, this model proves to be promising.

To solve the high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) microwave imaging is a challenging topic due to its inherent unmanageable computation. Recently, deep learning techniques that can fully explore the prior of meaningful pattern embodied in data have begun to show its intriguing merits in various areas of inverse problem. Motivated by this observation, we here present a deep-learning-inspired approach to the high-resolution 3D microwave imaging in the context of Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), termed as GANMI in this work. Simulation and experimental results have been provided to demonstrate that the proposed GANMI can remarkably outperform conventional methods in terms of both the image quality and computational time.

In the wake of diversity of service requirements and increasing push for extreme efficiency, adaptability propelled by machine learning (ML) a.k.a self organizing networks (SON) is emerging as an inevitable design feature for future mobile 5G networks. The implementation of SON with ML as a foundation requires significant amounts of real labeled sample data for the networks to train on, with high correlation between the amount of sample data and the effectiveness of the SON algorithm. As generally real labeled data is scarce therefore it can become bottleneck for ML empowered SON for unleashing their true potential. In this work, we propose a method of expanding these sample data sets using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), which are based on two interconnected deep artificial neural networks. This method is an alternative to taking more data to expand the sample set, preferred in cases where taking more data is not simple, feasible, or efficient. We demonstrate how the method can generate large amounts of realistic synthetic data, utilizing the GAN's ability of generation and discrimination, able to be easily added to the sample set. This method is, as an example, implemented with Call Data Records (CDRs) containing the start hour of a call and the duration of the call, in minutes taken from a real mobile operator. Results show that the method can be used with a relatively small sample set and little information about the statistics of the true CDRs and still make accurate synthetic ones.

Hyperspectral image (HSIs) with abundant spectral information but limited labeled dataset endows the rationality and necessity of semi-supervised spectral-based classification methods. Where, the utilizing approach of spectral information is significant to classification accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel semi-supervised method based on generative adversarial network (GAN) with folded spectrum (FS-GAN). Specifically, the original spectral vector is folded to 2D square spectrum as input of GAN, which can generate spectral texture and provide larger receptive field over both adjacent and non-adjacent spectral bands for deep feature extraction. The generated fake folded spectrum, the labeled and unlabeled real folded spectrum are then fed to the discriminator for semi-supervised learning. A feature matching strategy is applied to prevent model collapse. Extensive experimental comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Person re-identification(Person Re-ID) means that images of a pedestrian from cameras in a surveillance camera network can be automatically retrieved based on one of this pedestrian's image from another camera. The appearance change of pedestrians under different cameras poses a huge challenge to person re-identification. Person re-identification systems based on deep learning can effectively extract the appearance features of pedestrians. In this paper, the feature enhancement experiment is conducted, and the result showed that the current person reidentification datasets are relatively small and cannot fully meet the need of deep training. Therefore, this paper studied the method of using generative adversarial network to extend the person re-identification datasets and proposed a label smoothing regularization for outliers with weight (LSROW) algorithm to make full use of the generated data, effectively improved the accuracy of person re-identification.

Deep learning has been successfully applied to the ordinary image super-resolution (SR). However, since the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are often disturbed by multiplicative noise known as speckle and more blurry than ordinary images, there are few deep learning methods for the SAR image SR. In this paper, a deep generative adversarial network (DGAN) is proposed to reconstruct the pseudo high-resolution (HR) SAR images. First, a generator network is constructed to remove the noise of low-resolution SAR image and generate HR SAR image. Second, a discriminator network is used to differentiate between the pseudo super-resolution images and the realistic HR images. The adversarial objective function is introduced to make the pseudo HR SAR images closer to real SAR images. The experimental results show that our method can maintain the SAR image content with high-level noise suppression. The performance evaluation based on peak signal-to-noise-ratio and structural similarity index shows the superiority of the proposed method to the conventional CNN baselines.

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. :3161—3164.

Super-resolution (SR) of hyperspectral images (HSIs) aims to enhance the spatial/spectral resolution of hyperspectral imagery and the super-resolved results will benefit many remote sensing applications. A generative adversarial network for HSIs super-resolution (HSRGAN) is proposed in this paper. Specifically, HSRGAN constructs spectral and spatial blocks with residual network in generator to effectively learn spectral and spatial features from HSIs. Furthermore, a new loss function which combines the pixel-wise loss and adversarial loss together is designed to guide the generator to recover images approximating the original HSIs and with finer texture details. Quantitative and qualitative results demonstrate that the proposed HSRGAN is superior to the state of the art methods like SRCNN and SRGAN for HSIs spatial SR.

In this paper, we present a semi-supervised remote sensing change detection method based on graph model with Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). Firstly, the multi-temporal remote sensing change detection problem is converted as a problem of semi-supervised learning on graph where a majority of unlabeled nodes and a few labeled nodes are contained. Then, GANs are adopted to generate samples in a competitive manner and help improve the classification accuracy. Finally, a binary change map is produced by classifying the unlabeled nodes to a certain class with the help of both the labeled nodes and the unlabeled nodes on graph. Experimental results carried on several very high resolution remote sensing image data sets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
