Deep neural networks (DNNs) provide good performance for image recognition, speech recognition, and pattern recognition. However, a poisoning attack is a serious threat to DNN's security. The poisoning attack is a method to reduce the accuracy of DNN by adding malicious training data during DNN training process. In some situations such as a military, it may be necessary to drop only a chosen class of accuracy in the model. For example, if an attacker does not allow only nuclear facilities to be selectively recognized, it may be necessary to intentionally prevent UAV from correctly recognizing nuclear-related facilities. In this paper, we propose a selective poisoning attack that reduces the accuracy of only chosen class in the model. The proposed method reduces the accuracy of a chosen class in the model by training malicious training data corresponding to a chosen class, while maintaining the accuracy of the remaining classes. For experiment, we used tensorflow as a machine learning library and MNIST and CIFAR10 as datasets. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the accuracy of the chosen class to 43.2% and 55.3% in MNIST and CIFAR10, while maintaining the accuracy of the remaining classes.
Deep learning is a popular powerful machine learning solution to the computer vision tasks. The most criticized vulnerability of deep learning is its poor tolerance towards adversarial images obtained by deliberately adding imperceptibly small perturbations to the clean inputs. Such negatives can delude a classifier into wrong decision making. Previous defensive techniques mostly focused on refining the models or input transformation. They are either implemented only with small datasets or shown to have limited success. Furthermore, they are rarely scrutinized from the hardware perspective despite Artificial Intelligence (AI) on a chip is a roadmap for embedded intelligence everywhere. In this paper we propose a new discriminative noise injection strategy to adaptively select a few dominant layers and progressively discriminate adversarial from benign inputs. This is made possible by evaluating the differences in label change rate from both adversarial and natural images by injecting different amount of noise into the weights of individual layers in the model. The approach is evaluated on the ImageNet Dataset with 8-bit truncated models for the state-of-the-art DNN architectures. The results show a high detection rate of up to 88.00% with only approximately 5% of false positive rate for MobileNet. Both detection rate and false positive rate have been improved well above existing advanced defenses against the most practical noninvasive universal perturbation attack on deep learning based AI chip.
In this paper, we develop a statistical framework for image steganography in which the cover and stego messages are modeled as multivariate Gaussian random variables. By minimizing the detection error of an optimal detector within the generalized adopted statistical model, we propose a novel Gaussian embedding method. Furthermore, we extend the formulation to cost-based steganography, resulting in a universal embedding scheme that works with embedding costs as well as variance estimators. Experimental results show that the proposed approach avoids embedding in smooth regions and significantly improves the security of the state-of-the-art methods, such as HILL, MiPOD, and S-UNIWARD.
Analyzing clustering results may lead to the privacy disclosure issue in big data mining. In this paper, we put forward a differential privacy-based protecting data preprocessing method for distance-based clustering. Firstly, the data distortion technique differential privacy is used to prevent the distances in distance-based clustering from disclosing the relationships. Differential privacy may affect the clustering results while protecting privacy. Then an adaptive privacy budget parameter adjustment mechanism is applied for keeping the balance between the privacy protection and the clustering results. By solving the maximum and minimum problems, the differential privacy budget parameter can be obtained for different clustering algorithms. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of our proposed method. The results demonstrate that our method can provide privacy protection with precise clustering results.
In recent decades, a significant research effort has been devoted to the development of forensic tools for retrieving information and detecting possible tampering of multimedia documents. A number of counter-forensic tools have been developed as well in order to impede a correct analysis. Such tools are often very effective due to the vulnerability of multimedia forensics tools, which are not designed to work in an adversarial environment. In this scenario, developing forensic techniques capable of granting good performance even in the presence of an adversary aiming at impeding the forensic analysis, is becoming a necessity. This turns out to be a difficult task, given the weakness of the traces the forensic analysis usually relies on. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview of the advances made over the last decade in the field of adversarial multimedia forensics. We first consider the view points of the forensic analyst and the attacker independently, then we review some of the attempts made to simultaneously take into account both perspectives by resorting to game theory. Eventually, we discuss the hottest open problems and outline possible paths for future research.
In rural/remote areas, resource constrained smart micro-grid (RCSMG) architectures can offer a cost-effective power management and supply alternative to national power grid connections. RCSMG architectures handle communications over distributed lossy networks to minimize operation costs. However, the unreliable nature of lossy networks makes privacy an important consideration. Existing anonymisation works on data perturbation work mainly by distortion with additive noise. Apply these solutions to RCSMGs is problematic, because deliberate noise additions must be distinguishable both from system and adversarial generated noise. In this paper, we present a brief survey of privacy risks in RCSMGs centered on inference, and propose a method of mitigating these risks. The lesson here is that while RCSMGs give users more control over power management and distribution, good anonymisation is essential to protecting personal information on RCSMGs.
Multipath propagation of radio waves negatively affects to the performance of telecommunications and radio navigation systems. When performing time and frequency synchronization tasks of spatially separated standards, the multipath signal propagation aggravates the probability of a correct synchronization and introduces an error. The presence of a multipath signal reduces the signal-to-noise ratio in the received signal, which in turn causes an increase in the synchronization error. If the time delay of the additional beam (s) is less than the useful signal duration, the reception of the useful signal is further complicated by the presence of a partially correlated interference, the level and correlation degree of which increases with decreasing time delay of the interference signals. The article considers with the method of multi-path interference compensation in a multi-position (telecommunication or radio navigation system) or a time and frequency synchronization system for the case if at least one of the receiving positions has no noise signal or does not exceed the permissible level. The essence of the method is that the interference-free useful signal is transmitted to other points in order to pick out the interference component from the signal / noise mix. As a result, an interference-free signal is used for further processing. The mathematical models of multipath interference suppressors in the temporal and in the frequency domain are presented in the article. Compared to time processing, processing in the frequency domain reduces computational costs. The operation of the suppressor in the time domain has been verified experimentally.
In traditional steganographic schemes, RGB three channels payloads are assigned equally in a true color image. In fact, the security of color image steganography relates not only to data-embedding algorithms but also to different payload partition. How to exploit inter-channel correlations to allocate payload for performance enhancement is still an open issue in color image steganography. In this paper, a novel channel-dependent payload partition strategy based on amplifying channel modification probabilities is proposed, so as to adaptively assign the embedding capacity among RGB channels. The modification probabilities of three corresponding pixels in RGB channels are simultaneously increased, and thus the embedding impacts could be clustered, in order to improve the empirical steganographic security against the channel co-occurrences detection. Experimental results show that the new color image steganographic schemes incorporated with the proposed strategy can effectively make the embedding changes concentrated mainly in textured regions, and achieve better performance on resisting the modern color image steganalysis.
The security of image steganography is an important basis for evaluating steganography algorithms. Steganography has recently made great progress in the long-term confrontation with steganalysis. To improve the security of image steganography, steganography must have the ability to resist detection by steganalysis algorithms. Traditional embedding-based steganography embeds the secret information into the content of an image, which unavoidably leaves a trace of the modification that can be detected by increasingly advanced machine-learning-based steganalysis algorithms. The concept of steganography without embedding (SWE), which does not need to modify the data of the carrier image, appeared to overcome the detection of machine-learning-based steganalysis algorithms. In this paper, we propose a novel image SWE method based on deep convolutional generative adversarial networks. We map the secret information into a noise vector and use the trained generator neural network model to generate the carrier image based on the noise vector. No modification or embedding operations are required during the process of image generation, and the information contained in the image can be extracted successfully by another neural network, called the extractor, after training. The experimental results show that this method has the advantages of highly accurate information extraction and a strong ability to resist detection by state-of-the-art image steganalysis algorithms.
An ideal audio retrieval method should be not only highly efficient in identifying an audio track from a massive audio dataset, but also robust to any distortion. Unfortunately, none of the audio retrieval methods is robust to all types of distortions. An audio retrieval method has to do with both the audio fingerprint and the strategy, especially how they are combined. We argue that the Sampling and Counting Method (SC), a state-of-the-art audio retrieval method, would be promising towards an ideal audio retrieval method, if we could make it robust to time-stretch and pitch-stretch. Towards this objective, this paper proposes a turning point alignment method to enhance SC with resistance to time-stretch, which makes Philips and Philips-like fingerprints resist to time-stretch. Experimental results show that our approach can resist to time-stretch from 70% to 130%, which is on a par to the state-of-the-art methods. It also marginally improves the retrieval performance with various noise distortions.
In this paper, we propose to impose a multiscale contextual loss for image style transfer based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). In the traditional optimization framework, a new stylized image is synthesized by constraining the high-level CNN features similar to a content image and the lower-level CNN features similar to a style image, which, however, appears to lost many details of the content image, presenting unpleasing and inconsistent distortions or artifacts. The proposed multiscale contextual loss, named Haar loss, is responsible for preserving the lost details by dint of matching the features derived from the content image and the synthesized image via wavelet transform. It endows the synthesized image with the characteristic to better retain the semantic information of the content image. More specifically, the unpleasant distortions can be effectively alleviated while the style can be well preserved. In the experiments, we show the visually more consistent and simultaneously well-stylized images generated by incorporating the multiscale contextual loss.
With the rapid and radical evolution of information and communication technology, energy consumption for wireless communication is growing at a staggering rate, especially for wireless multimedia communication. Recently, reducing energy consumption in wireless multimedia communication has attracted increasing attention. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient wireless image transmission scheme based on adaptive block compressive sensing (ABCS) and SoftCast, which is called ABCS-SoftCast. In ABCS-SoftCast, the compression distortion and transmission distortion are considered in a joint manner, and the energy-distortion model is formulated for each image block. Then, the sampling rate (SR) and power allocation factors of each image block are optimized simultaneously. Comparing with conventional SoftCast scheme, experimental results demonstrate that the energy consumption can be greatly reduced even when the receiving image qualities are approximately the same.
This paper investigates practical strategies for distributing payload across images with content-adaptive steganography and for pooling outputs of a single-image detector for steganalysis. Adopting a statistical model for the detector's output, the steganographer minimizes the power of the most powerful detector of an omniscient Warden, while the Warden, informed by the payload spreading strategy, detects with the likelihood ratio test in the form of a matched filter. Experimental results with state-of-the-art content-adaptive additive embedding schemes and rich models are included to show the relevance of the results.
3D steganography is used in order to embed or hide information into 3D objects without causing visible or machine detectable modifications. In this paper we rethink about a high capacity 3D steganography based on the Hamiltonian path quantization, and increase its resistance to steganalysis. We analyze the parameters that may influence the distortion of a 3D shape as well as the resistance of the steganography to 3D steganalysis. According to the experimental results, the proposed high capacity 3D steganographic method has an increased resistance to steganalysis.
Cloud storage is vulnerable to advanced persistent threats (APTs), in which an attacker launches stealthy, continuous, well-funded and targeted attacks on storage devices. In this paper, cumulative prospect theory (CPT) is applied to study the interactions between a defender of cloud storage and an APT attacker when each of them makes subjective decisions to choose the scan interval and attack interval, respectively. Both the probability weighting effect and the framing effect are applied to model the deviation of subjective decisions of end-users from the objective decisions governed by expected utility theory, under uncertain attack durations. Cumulative decision weights are used to describe the probability weighting effect and the value distortion functions are used to represent the framing effect of subjective APT attackers and defenders in the CPT-based APT defense game, rather than discrete decision weights, as in earlier prospect theoretic study of APT defense. The Nash equilibria of the CPT-based APT defense game are derived, showing that a subjective attacker becomes risk-seeking if the frame of reference for evaluating the utility is large, and becomes risk-averse if the frame of reference for evaluating the utility is small.

Most of the Depth Image Based Rendering (DIBR) techniques produce synthesized images which contain nonuniform geometric distortions affecting edges coherency. This type of distortions are challenging for common image quality metrics. Morphological filters maintain important geometric information such as edges across different resolution levels. In this paper, morphological wavelet peak signal-to-noise ratio measure, MW-PSNR, based on morphological wavelet decomposition is proposed to tackle the evaluation of DIBR synthesized images. It is shown that MW-PSNR achieves much higher correlation with human judgment compared to the state-of-the-art image quality measures in this context.
