Musa, Nura Shifa, Mirza, Nada Masood, Ali, Adnan.  2022.  Current Trends in Internet of Things Forensics. 2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT). :1—5.
Digital forensics is essential when performing in-depth crime investigations and evidence extraction, especially in the field of the Internet of Things, where there is a ton of information every second boosted with latest and smartest technological devices. However, the enormous growth of data and the nature of its complexity could constrain the data examination process since traditional data acquisition techniques are not applicable nowadays. Therefore, if the knowledge gap between digital forensics and the Internet of Things is not bridged, investigators will jeopardize the loss of a possible rich source of evidence that otherwise could act as a lead in solving open cases. The work aims to introduce examples of employing the latest Internet of Things forensics approaches as a panacea in this regard. The paper covers a variety of articles presenting the new Blockchain, fog, and video-based applications that can aid in easing the process of digital forensics investigation with a focus on the Internet of Things. The results of the review indicated that the above current trends are very promising procedures in the field of Internet of Things digital forensics and need to be explored and applied more actively.

With the wide application of Internet technology in the industrial control field, industrial control networks are getting larger and larger, and the industrial data generated by industrial control systems are increasing dramatically, and the performance requirements of the acquisition and storage systems are getting higher and higher. The collection and analysis of industrial equipment work logs and industrial timing data can realize comprehensive management and continuous monitoring of industrial control system work status, as well as intrusion detection and energy efficiency analysis in terms of traffic and data. In the face of increasingly large realtime industrial data, existing log collection systems and timing data gateways, such as packet loss and other phenomena [1], can not be more complete preservation of industrial control network thermal data. The emergence of software-defined networking provides a new solution to realize massive thermal data collection in industrial control networks. This paper proposes a 10-gigabit industrial thermal data acquisition and storage scheme based on software-defined networking, which uses software-defined networking technology to solve the problem of insufficient performance of existing gateways.

Metaverse opens up a new social networking paradigm where people can experience a real interactive feeling without physical space constraints. Social interactions are gradually evolving from text combined with pictures and videos to 3-dimensional virtual reality, making the social experience increasingly physical, implying that more metaverse applications with immersive experiences will be developed in the future. However, the increasing data dimensionality and volume for new metaverse applications present a significant challenge in data acquisition, security, and sharing. Furthermore, metaverse applications require high capacity and ultrareliability for the wireless system to guarantee the quality of user experience, which cannot be addressed in the current fifth-generation system. Therefore, reaching the metaverse is dependent on the revolution in the sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication, which is expected to provide low-latency, high-throughput, and secure services. This article provides a comprehensive view of metaverse applications and investigates the fundamental technologies for the 6G toward metaverse.

'Ammar, Muhammad Amirul, Purnamasari, Rita, Budiman, Gelar.  2022.  Compressive Sampling on Weather Radar Application via Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). 2022 IEEE Symposium on Future Telecommunication Technologies (SOFTT). :83–89.
A weather radar is expected to provide information about weather conditions in real time and valid. To obtain these results, weather radar takes a lot of data samples, so a large amount of data is obtained. Therefore, the weather radar equipment must provide bandwidth for a large capacity for transmission and storage media. To reduce the burden of data volume by performing compression techniques at the time of data acquisition. Compressive Sampling (CS) is a new data acquisition method that allows the sampling and compression processes to be carried out simultaneously to speed up computing time, reduce bandwidth when passed on transmission media, and save storage media. There are three stages in the CS method, namely: sparsity transformation using the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) algorithm, sampling using a measurement matrix, and reconstruction using the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) algorithm. The sparsity transformation aims to convert the representation of the radar signal into a sparse form. Sampling is used to extract important information from the radar signal, and reconstruction is used to get the radar signal back. The data used in this study is the real data of the IDRA beat signal. Based on the CS simulation that has been done, the best PSNR and RMSE values are obtained when using a CR value of two times, while the shortest computation time is obtained when using a CR value of 32 times. CS simulation in a sector via DCT using the CR value two times produces a PSNR value of 20.838 dB and an RMSE value of 0.091. CS simulation in a sector via DCT using the CR value 32 times requires a computation time of 10.574 seconds.

Based on the analysis of material performance data management requirements, a network-sharing scheme of material performance data is proposed. A material performance database system including material performance data collection, data query, data analysis, data visualization, data security management and control modules is designed to solve the problems of existing material performance database network sharing, data fusion and multidisciplinary support, and intelligent services Inadequate standardization and data security control. This paper adopts hierarchical access control strategy. After logging into the material performance database system, users can standardize the material performance data and store them to form a shared material performance database. The standardized material performance data of the database system shall be queried and shared under control according to the authority. Then, the database system compares and analyzes the material performance data obtained from controlled query sharing. Finally, the database system visualizes the shared results of controlled queries and the comparative analysis results obtained. The database system adopts the MVC architecture based on B/S (client/server) cross platform J2EE. The Third-party computing platforms are integrated in System. Users can easily use material performance data and related services through browsers and networks. MongoDB database is used for data storage, supporting distributed storage and efficient query.

The data-driven period produces more and more security-related challenges that even experts can hardly deal with. One of the most complex threats is ransomware, which is very taxing and devastating to detect and mainly prevent. Our research methods showed significant results in identifying ransomware processes using the honeypot concept augmented with symbolic linking to reduce damage made to the file system. The CIA (confidentiality, integrity, availability) metrics have been adhered to. We propose to optimize the malware process termination procedure and introduce an artificial intelligence-human collaboration to enhance ransomware classification and detection.

Due to environmental influence and technology limitation, a wireless sensor/sensors module can neither store or process all raw data locally nor reliably forward it to a destination in heterogeneous IoT environment. As a result, the data collected by the IoT's sensors are inherently noisy, unreliable, and may trigger many false alarms. These false or misleading data can lead to wrong decisions once the data reaches end entities. Therefore, it is highly recommended and desirable to acquire trustworthy data before data transmission, aggregation, and data storing at the end entities/cloud. In this paper, we propose an In-network Generalized Trustworthy Data Collection (IGTDC) framework for trustworthy data acquisition and faulty sensor detection in the IoT environment. The key idea of IGTDC is to allow a sensor's module to examine locally whether the raw data is trustworthy before transmitting towards upstream nodes. It further distinguishes whether the acquired data can be trusted or not before data aggregation at the sink/edge node. Besides, IGTDC helps to recognize a faulty or compromised sensor. For a reliable data collection, we use collaborative IoT technique, gate-level modeling, and programmable logic device (PLD) to ensure that the acquired data is reliable before transmitting towards upstream nodes/cloud. We use a hardware-based technique called “Gray Code” to detect a faulty sensor. Through simulations we reveal that the acquired data in IGTDC framework is reliable that can make a trustworthy data collection for event detection, and assist to distinguish a faulty sensor.

Aiming at the problem that the traditional intrusion detection method can not effectively deal with the massive and high-dimensional network traffic data of industrial control system (ICS), an ICS intrusion detection strategy based on bidirectional generative adversarial network (BiGAN) is proposed in this paper. In order to improve the applicability of BiGAN model in ICS intrusion detection, the optimal model was obtained through the single variable principle and cross-validation. On this basis, the supervised control and data acquisition (SCADA) standard data set is used for comparative experiments to verify the performance of the optimized model on ICS intrusion detection. The results show that the ICS intrusion detection method based on optimized BiGAN has higher accuracy and shorter detection time than other methods.

The Automation industries that uses Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems are highly vulnerable for Network threats. Systems that are air-gapped and isolated from the internet are highly affected due to insider attacks like Spoofing, DOS and Malware threats that affects confidentiality, integrity and availability of Operational Technology (OT) system elements and degrade its performance even though security measures are taken. In this paper, a behavior-based intrusion prevention system (IPS) is designed for OT networks. The proposed system is implemented on SCADA test bed with two systems replicates automation scenarios in industry. This paper describes 4 main classes of cyber-attacks with their subclasses against SCADA systems and methodology with design of components of IPS system, database creation, Baselines and deployment of system in environment. IPS system identifies not only IT protocols but also Industry Control System (ICS) protocols Modbus and DNP3 with their inside communication fields using deep packet inspection (DPI). The analytical results show 99.89% accuracy on binary classification and 97.95% accuracy on multiclass classification of different attack vectors performed on network with low false positive rate. These results are also validated by actual deployment of IPS in SCADA systems with the prevention of DOS attack.

Leff, D., Maskay, A., Cunha, M. P. da.  2020.  Wireless Interrogation of High Temperature Surface Acoustic Wave Dynamic Strain Sensor. 2020 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS). :1–4.
Dynamic strain sensing is necessary for high-temperature harsh-environment applications, including powerplants, oil wells, aerospace, and metal manufacturing. Monitoring dynamic strain is important for structural health monitoring and condition-based maintenance in order to guarantee safety, increase process efficiency, and reduce operation and maintenance costs. Sensing in high-temperature (HT), harsh-environments (HE) comes with challenges including mounting and packaging, sensor stability, and data acquisition and processing. Wireless sensor operation at HT is desirable because it reduces the complexity of the sensor connection, increases reliability, and reduces costs. Surface acoustic wave resonators (SAWRs) are compact, can operate wirelessly and battery-free, and have been shown to operate above 1000°C, making them a potential option for HT HE dynamic strain sensing. This paper presents wirelessly interrogated SAWR dynamic strain sensors operating around 288.8MHz at room temperature and tested up to 400°C. The SAWRs were calibrated with a high-temperature wired commercial strain gauge. The sensors were mounted onto a tapered-type Inconel constant stress beam and the assembly was tested inside a box furnace. The SAWR sensitivity to dynamic strain excitation at 25°C, 100°C, and 400°C was .439 μV/με, 0.363μV/με, and .136 μV/με, respectively. The experimental outcomes verified that inductive coupled wirelessly interrogated SAWRs can be successfully used for dynamic strain sensing up to 400°C.

The textile chemical sensors consist of nine polymer/CNTs nano-composite gas sensors which can be divided into three different prototypes of the wearable humanoid robot; (i) human axillary odor monitoring, (ii) human foot odor tracking, and (iii) wearable personal gas leakage detection. These prototypes can be integrated into high-performance wearable wellness platform such as smart clothes, smart shoes and wearable pocket toxic-gas detector. While operating mode has been designed to use ZigBee wireless communication technology for data acquisition and monitoring system. Wearable humanoid robot offers several platforms that can be applied to investigate the role of individual scent produced by different parts of the human body such as axillary odor and foot odor, which have potential health effects from abnormal or offensive body odor. Moreover, wearable personal safety and security component in robot is also effective for detecting NH3 leakage in environment. Preliminary results with nine textile chemical sensors for odor biomarker and NH3 detection demonstrates the feasibility of using the wearable humanoid robot to distinguish unpleasant odor released when you're physically active. It also showed an excellent performance to detect a hazardous gas like ammonia (NH3) with sensitivity as low as 5 ppm.

The readout of large pixellated detectors with good spectroscopic quality represents a challenge for both front-end and back-end electronics. The TRISTAN project for the search of the Sterile neutrino in the keV-scale, envisions the operation of 21 detection modules equipped with a monolithic array of 166 SDDs each, for β-decay spectroscopy in the KATRIN experiment's spectrometer. Since the trace of the sterile neutrino existence would manifest as a kink of \textbackslashtextless; 1ppm in the continuous spectrum, high accuracy in the acquisition is required. Within this framework, we present the design of a multichannel scalable analog processing and DAQ system named Kerberos, aimed to provide a simple and low-cost multichannel readout option in the early phase of the TRISTAN detector development. It is based on three 16-channel integrated programmable analog pulse processors (SFERA ASICs), high linearity ADCs, and an FPGA. The platform is able to acquire data from up to 48 pixels in parallel, providing also different readout and multiplexing strategies. The use of an analog ASIC-based solution instead of a Digital Pulse Processor, represents a viable and scalable processing solution at the price of slightly limited versatility and count rate.

Modern infrastructure is heavily reliant on systems with interconnected computational and physical resources, named Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs). Hence, building resilient CPSs is a prime need and continuous monitoring of the CPS operational health is essential for improving resilience. This paper presents a framework for calculating and monitoring of health in CPSs using data driven techniques. The main advantages of this data driven methodology is that the ability of leveraging heterogeneous data streams that are available from the CPSs and the ability of performing the monitoring with minimal a priori domain knowledge. The main objective of the framework is to warn the operators of any degradation in cyber, physical or overall health of the CPS. The framework consists of four components: 1) Data acquisition and feature extraction, 2) state identification and real time state estimation, 3) cyber-physical health calculation and 4) operator warning generation. Further, this paper presents an initial implementation of the first three phases of the framework on a CPS testbed involving a Microgrid simulation and a cyber-network which connects the grid with its controller. The feature extraction method and the use of unsupervised learning algorithms are discussed. Experimental results are presented for the first two phases and the results showed that the data reflected different operating states and visualization techniques can be used to extract the relationships in data features.

Power system intelligent terminal equipment is widely used in real-time monitoring, data acquisition, power management, power distribution and other tasks of smart grid. The power system intelligent terminal can obtain various information of users and power companies in the power grid, but there is still a lack of protection means for the connection and communication process of the terminal components. In this paper, a novel method based on improved deep belief network(IDBN) is proposed to accomplish the business-level security monitoring and attack detection of power system terminal. A non-intrusive business-level monitoring platform for power system terminals is established, which uses energy metering intelligent terminals as an example for non-intrusive data collection. Based on this platform, the I-DBN extracts the spatial and temporal attack characteristics of the external monitoring data of the system. Some fault conditions and cyber attacks of the model have been simulated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed detection method and the results show excellent performance. The method and platform proposed in this paper can be extended to other services in the power industry, providing a theoretical basis and implementation method for realizing the security monitoring of power system intelligent terminals from the business level.
