Usually on the top of Smart Chip covered with active shielding layer to prevent invasive physical exploration tampering attacks on part of the chip's function modules, to obtain the chip's critical storage data and sensitive information. This paper introduces a design based on UMC55 technology, and applied to the safety chip active shielding layer method for layout design, the layout design from the two aspects of the metal shielding line and shielding layer detecting circuit, using the minimum size advantage and layout design process when the depth of hidden shielding line interface and port order connection method and greatly increased the difficulty of physical attack. The layout design can withstand most of the current FIB physical attack technology, and has been applied to the actual smart card design, and it has important practical significance for the security design and attack of the chip.

Nowadays, hypervisors are the standard solution to integrate different domains into a shared hardware platform, while providing safety, security, and predictability. To this end, a hypervisor virtualizes the physical platform and orchestrates the access to each component. When the system needs to comply with certification requirements for safety-critical systems, virtualization latencies need to be analytically bounded for providing off-line guarantees. This paper presents a detailed modeling of three I/O virtualization techniques, providing analytical bounds for each of them under different metrics. Experimental results compare the bounds for a case study and quantify the contribution due to different sources of delay.

Cyber-physical systems, which are ubiquitous in modern critical infrastructure, oftentimes rely on sending actuation commands and sensor measurements over a network, subjecting this information to potential man-in-the-middle attacks. These attacks can take the form of denial of service attacks or integrity attacks. Previous approaches at ensuring the resiliency of the overall control system against these types of attacks have leveraged functional redundancy in the system, including resilient estimation and reconfigurable control. However, these approaches are only able to ensure resiliency up to a particular subset of the actuator commands and sensor measurements being compromised. In contrast, we introduce a resiliency mechanism in this paper that can ensure safety for the overall system when all the actuator commands and sensor measurements are compromised. In addition, this approach does not require the implementation of any detection algorithm. We leverage communication redundancy in the number of pathways across the network to guarantee safety when up to a certain percentage of those pathways are compromised. The conditions under which safety is guaranteed are presented along with the resiliency mechanism itself, and our results are illustrated via simulation.

The inference results of neural network accelerators often involve personal privacy or business secrets in intelligent systems. It is important for the safety of convolutional neural network (CNN) accelerator to prevent the key data and inference result from being leaked. The latest CNN models have started to combine with fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), ensuring the data security. However, the computational complexity, data storage overhead, inference time are significantly increased compared with the traditional neural network models. This paper proposed a lightweight FHE scheme on fully-connected layer for CNN hardware accelerator to achieve security inference, which not only protects the privacy of inference results, but also avoids excessive hardware overhead and great performance degradation. Compared with state-of-the-art works, this work reduces computational complexity by approximately 90% and decreases ciphertext size by 87%∼95%.

As modern vehicles are complex IoT devices with intelligence capable to connect to an external infrastructure and use Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, there is a need to secure the communication to avoid being a target for cyber-attacks. Also, the organs of the car (sensors, communication, and control) each could have a vulnerability, that leads to accidents or potential deaths. Manufactures of cars have a huge responsibility to secure the safety of their costumers and should not skip the important security research, instead making sure to implement important security measures, which makes your car less likely to be attacked. This paper covers the relevant attacks and threats to modern vehicles and presents a security analysis with potential countermeasures. We discuss the future of modern and autonomous vehicles and conclude that more countermeasures must be taken to create a future and safe concept.

Physical layer security has a paramount importance in tactical wireless networks. Traditional approaches may not fulfill all requirements, demanding additional sophisticated techniques. Thus, Combined Interference and Communications (CIC) emerges as a strategy against message interception in Cognitive Radio Military Networks (CRMN). Since CIC adopts an interference approach under specific CRMN requirements and characteristics, it saves great energy and reduces the receiver detection factor when compared to previous proposals in the literature. However, previous CIC analyses were conducted under vaguely realistic channel models. Thus, the focus of this paper is two-fold. Firstly, we identify more realistic channel models to achieve tactical network scenario channel parameters. Additionally, we use such parameters to evaluate CIC suitability to increase CRMN physical layer security. Numerical experiments and emulations illustrate potential impairments on previous work due to the adoption of unrealistic channel models, concluding that CIC technique remains as an upper limit to increase physical layer security in CRMN.

Due to the large number of terminal nodes and wide deployment of power IOT, it is vulnerable to attacks such as physical hijacking, communication link theft and replay. In order to sense and measure the security risks and threats of massive power IOT terminals in real time, a security threat assessment for power IOT terminals based on knowledge graph was proposed. Firstly, the basic data, operation data and alarm threat data of power IOT terminal equipment are extracted and correlated, and the power IOT terminal based on knowledge graph is constructed. Then, the real-time monitoring data of the power IOT terminal is preprocessed. Based on the knowledge graph of the power IOT terminal, the safety analysis and operation analysis of the terminal are carried out, and the threat index of the power IOT terminal is perceived in real time. Finally, security operation and maintenance personnel make disposal decisions on the terminals according to the threat index of power IOT terminals to ensure the safe and stable operation of power IOT terminal nodes. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional IPS, the method can effectively detect the security threat of the power IOT terminal and reduce the alarm vulnerability rate.

Rescue robots are expected to soon become commonplace at disaster sites, where they are increasingly being deployed to provide rescuers with improved access and intervention capabilities while mitigating risks. The presence of robots in operation areas, however, is likely to carry a layer of additional ethical complexity to situations that are already ethically challenging. In addition, limited guidance is available for ethically informed, practical decision-making in real-life disaster settings, and specific ethics training programs are lacking. The contribution of this paper is thus to propose a tool aimed at supporting ethics training for rescuers operating with rescue robots. To this end, we have designed an interactive text-based simulation. The simulation was developed in Python, using Tkinter, Python's de-facto standard GUI. It is designed in accordance with the Case-Based Learning approach, a widely used instructional method that has been found to work well for ethics training. The simulation revolves around a case grounded in ethical themes we identified in previous work on ethical issues in rescue robotics: fairness and discrimination, false or excessive expectations, labor replacement, safety, and trust. Here we present the design of the simulation and the results of usability testing.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have gained significant popularity in recent years, becoming the state of the art in a variety of domains. In particular, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has recently been employed to train DNNs that realize control policies for various types of real-world systems. In this work, we present the whiRL 2.0 tool, which implements a new approach for verifying complex properties of interest for DRL systems. To demonstrate the benefits of whiRL 2.0, we apply it to case studies from the communication networks domain that have recently been used to motivate formal verification of DRL systems, and which exhibit characteristics that are conducive for scalable verification. We propose techniques for performing k-induction and semi-automated invariant inference on such systems, and leverage these techniques for proving safety and liveness properties that were previously impossible to verify due to the scalability barriers of prior approaches. Furthermore, we show how our proposed techniques provide insights into the inner workings and the generalizability of DRL systems. whiRL 2.0 is publicly available online.

Human-automation shared control is proposed to reduce the risk of driver disengagement in Level-3 autonomous vehicles. Although previous studies have approved shared control strategy is effective to keep a driver in the loop and improve the driver's performance, over- and under-trust may affect the cooperation between the driver and the automation system. This study conducted a human-in-the-loop driving simulation experiment to assess the effects of trust on driver's behavior of shared control. An expert shared control strategy with longitudinal and lateral driving assistance was proposed and implemented in the experiment platform. Based on the experiment (N=24), trust in shared control was evaluated, followed by a correlation analysis of trust and behaviors. Moderating effects of trust on the relationship between gaze focalization and minimum of time to collision were then explored. Results showed that self-reported trust in shared control could be evaluated by three subscales respectively: safety, efficiency and ease of control, which all show stronger correlations with gaze focalization than other behaviors. Besides, with more trust in ease of control, there is a gentle decrease in the human-machine conflicts of mean brake inputs. The moderating effects show trust could enhance the decrease of minimum of time to collision as eyes-off-road time increases. These results indicate over-trust in automation will lead to unsafe behaviors, particularly monitoring behavior. This study contributes to revealing the link between trust and behavior in the context of human-automation shared control. It can be applied in improving the design of shared control and reducing risky behaviors of drivers by further trust calibration.

In this work security strategies have been proposed for cloud data protection, capable to overpower the shortcomings of conventional data protection algorithms and enhancing security using steganography algorithm, encryption decryption techniques, compression and file splitting technique. These techniques are utilized for effective results in data protection, Client can easily access our developed desktop application and share the information in an effective and secured way.

As multi-robot systems (MRS) are widely used in various tasks such as natural disaster response and social security, people enthusiastically expect an MRS to be ubiquitous that a general user without heavy training can easily operate. However, humans have various preferences on balancing between task performance and safety, imposing different requirements onto MRS control. Failing to comply with preferences makes people feel difficult in operation and decreases human willingness of using an MRS. Therefore, to improve social acceptance as well as performance, there is an urgent need to adjust MRS behaviors according to human preferences before triggering human corrections, which increases cognitive load. In this paper, a novel Meta Preference Learning (MPL) method was developed to enable an MRS to fast adapt to user preferences. MPL based on meta learning mechanism can quickly assess human preferences from limited instructions; then, a neural network based preference model adjusts MRS behaviors for preference adaption. To validate method effectiveness, a task scenario "An MRS searches victims in an earthquake disaster site" was designed; 20 human users were involved to identify preferences as "aggressive", "medium", "reserved"; based on user guidance and domain knowledge, about 20,000 preferences were simulated to cover different operations related to "task quality", "task progress", "robot safety". The effectiveness of MPL in preference adaption was validated by the reduced duration and frequency of human interventions.

This paper presents BackFlow, a compiler-based toolchain that enforces indirect backward edge control flow integrity for low-end ARM Cortex-M microprocessors. BackFlow is implemented within the Clang/LLVM compiler and supports the ARM instruction set and its subset Thumb. The control flow integrity generated by the compiler relies on a bitmap, where each set bit indicates a valid pointer destination. The efficiency of the framework is benchmarked using an STM32 NUCLEO F446RE microcontroller. The obtained results show that the control flow integrity solution incurs an execution time overhead ranging from 1.5 to 4.5%.

Trust is essential in designing autonomous and semiautonomous Robots and Autonomous Systems (RAS), because of the ``No trust, no use'' concept. RAS should provide high quality services, with four key properties that make them trustworthy: they must be (i) robust with regards to any system health related issues, (ii) safe for any matters in their surrounding environments, (iii) secure against any threats from cyber spaces, and (iv) trusted for human-machine interaction. This article thoroughly analyses the challenges in implementing the trustworthy RAS in respects of the four properties, and addresses the power of AI in improving the trustworthiness of RAS. While we focus on the benefits that AI brings to human, we should realize the potential risks that could be caused by AI. This article introduces for the first time the set of key aspects of human-centered AI for RAS, which can serve as a cornerstone for implementing trustworthy RAS by design in the future.

The Ad-hoc Vehicular networks (VANET) was developed through the implementation of the concepts of ad-hoc mobile networks(MANET), which is swiftly maturing, promising, emerging wireless communication technology nowadays. Vehicular communication enables us to communicate with other vehicles and Roadside Infrastructure Units (RSU) to share information pertaining to the safety system, traffic analysis, Authentication, privacy, etc. As VANETs operate in an open wireless connectivity system, it increases permeable of variant type's security issues. Security concerns, however, which are either generally seen in ad-hoc networks or utterly unique to VANET, present significant challenges. Access Control List (ACL) can be an efficient feature to solve such security issues by permitting statements to access registered specific IP addresses in the network and deny statement unregistered IP addresses in the system. To establish such secured VANETs, the License number of the vehicle will be the Identity Number, which will be assigned via a DNS server by the Traffic Certification Authority (TCA). TCA allows registered vehicles to access the nearest two or more regions. For special vehicles, public access should be restricted by configuring ACL on a specific IP. Smart-card given by TCA can be used to authenticate a subscriber by checking previous records during entry to a new network area. After in-depth analysis of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Packet Loss Ratio (PLR), Average Delay, and Handover Delay, this research offers more secure and reliable communication in VANETs.

This paper presents Foggy, an anonymous communication system focusing on providing users with anonymous web browsing. Foggy provides a microservice-based proxy for web browsing and other low-latency network activities without exposing users' metadata and browsed content to adversaries. It is designed with decentralized information management, web caching, and configurable service selection. Although Foggy seems to be more centralized compared with Tor, it gains an advantage in manageability while retaining anonymity. Foggy can be deployed by several agencies to become more decentralized. We prototype Foggy and test its performance. Our experiments show Foggy's low latency and deployability, demonstrating its potential to be a commercial solution for real-world deployment.

We study the use of Multiform Logical Time, as embodied in Esterel/SyncCharts and Clock Constraint Specification Language (CCSL), for the specification of assume-guarantee constraints providing safe driving rules related to time and space, in the context of Automated Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS). The main novelty lies in the use of logical clocks to represent the epochs of specific area encounters (when particular area trajectories just start overlapping for instance), thereby combining time and space constraints by CCSL to build safe driving rules specification. We propose the safe specification pattern at high-level that provide the required expressiveness for safe driving rules specification. In the pattern, multiform logical time provides the power of parameterization to express safe driving rules, before instantiation in further simulation contexts. We present an efficient way to irregularly update the constraints in the specification due to the context changes, where elements (other cars, road sections, traffic signs) may dynamically enter and exit the scene. In this way, we add constraints for the new elements and remove the constraints related to the disappearing elements rather than rebuild everything. The multi-lane highway scenario is used to illustrate how to irregularly and efficiently update the constraints in the specification while receiving a fresh scene.

DNN models have suffered from adversarial example attacks, which lead to inconsistent prediction results. As opposed to the gradient-based attack, which assumes white-box access to the model by the attacker, we focus on more realistic input perturbations from the real-world and their actual impact on the model robustness without any presence of the attackers. In this work, we promote a standardized framework to quantify the robustness against real-world threats. It is composed of a set of safety properties associated with common violations, a group of metrics to measure the minimal perturbation that causes the offense, and various criteria that reflect different aspects of the model robustness. By revealing comparison results through this framework among 13 pre-trained ImageNet classifiers, three state-of-the-art object detectors, and three cloud-based content moderators, we deliver the status quo of the real-world model robustness. Beyond that, we provide robustness benchmarking datasets for the community.

Security has become a major concern for women, children and even elders in every walk of their life. Women are getting assaulted and molested, children are getting kidnapped, elder citizens are also facing many problems like robbery, etc. In this paper, a smart security solution called smart wearable device system is implemented using the Raspberry Pi3 for enhancing the safety and security of women/children. It works as an alert as well as a security system. It provides a buzzer alert alert to the people who are nearby to the user (wearing the smart device). The system uses Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate the user, sends the location of the user through SMS to the emergency contact and police using the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) / General Radio Packet Service (GPRS) technology. The device also captures the image of the assault and surroundings of the user or victim using USB Web Camera interfaced to the device and sends it as an E-mail alert to the emergency contact soon after the user presses the panic button present on Smart wearable device system.

The advanced complex electronic systems increasingly demand safer and more secure hardware parts. Correspondingly, fault injection became a major verification milestone for both safety- and security-critical applications. However, fault injection campaigns for gate-level designs suffer from huge execution times. Therefore, designers need to apply early design evaluation techniques to reduce the execution time of fault injection campaigns. In this work, we propose a method to represent gate-level Single-Event Transient (SET) faults by multiple Single-Event Upset (SEU) faults at the Register-Transfer Level. Introduced approach is to identify true and false logic paths for each SET in the flip-flops' fan-in logic cones to obtain more accurate sets of flip-flops for multiple SEUs injections at RTL. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method to successfully reduce the fault space and also its advantage with respect to state of the art. It was shown that the approach is able to reduce the fault space, and therefore the fault-injection effort, by up to tens to hundreds of times.

The transmission line tower is affected by the surface subsidence in the mined out area of coal mine, which will appear the phenomenon of subsidence, inclination and even tower collapse, threatening the operation safety of the transmission line tower in the mined out area. Therefore, a Safety and Damage Assessment Method of Transmission Line Tower in Goaf Based on Artificial Intelligence is proposed. Firstly, the geometric model of the coal seam in the goaf and the structural reliability model of the transmission line tower are constructed to evaluate the safety. Then, the random forest algorithm in artificial intelligence is used to evaluate the damage of the tower, so as to take protective measures in time. Finally, a finite element simulation model of tower foundation interaction is built, and its safety (force) and damage identification are experimentally analyzed. The results show that the proposed method can ensure high accuracy of damage assessment and reliable judgment of transmission line tower safety within the allowable error.
