Secure Cloud EHR with Semantic Access Control, Searchable Encryption and Attribute Revocation. 2021 IEEE International Conference on Digital Health (ICDH). :38—47.
.
2021. To ensure a secure Cloud-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, we need to encrypt data and impose field-level access control to prevent malicious usage. Since the attributes of the Users will change with time, the encryption policies adopted may also vary. For large EHR systems, it is often necessary to search through the encrypted data in realtime and perform client-side computations without decrypting all patient records. This paper describes our novel cloud-based EHR system that uses Attribute Based Encryption (ABE) combined with Semantic Web technologies to facilitate differential access to an EHR, thereby ensuring only Users with valid attributes can access a particular field of the EHR. The system also includes searchable encryption using keyword index and search trapdoor, which allows querying EHR fields without decrypting the entire patient record. The attribute revocation feature is efficiently managed in our EHR by delegating the revision of the secret key and ciphertext to the Cloud Service Provider (CSP). Our methodology incorporates advanced security features that eliminate malicious use of EHR data and contributes significantly towards ensuring secure digital health systems on the Cloud.

Secure Real-time Data Access Using Two-Factor Authentication Scheme for the Internet of Drones. 2021 IEEE 19th Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD). :168—173.
.
2021. The Internet of Drones (IoD) is a distributed network control system that mainly manages unmanned aerial vehicle access to controlled airspace and provides navigation between so-called nodes. Securing the transmission of real-time information from the nodes in these applications is essential. The limited drone nodes, data storage, computing and communication capabilities necessitate the need to design an effective and secure authentication scheme. Recently, research has proposed remote user authentication and the key agreement on IoD and claimed that their schemes satisfied all security issues in these networks. However, we found that their schemes may lead to losing access to the drone system due to the corruption of using a key management system and make the system completely unusable. To solve this drawback, we propose a lightweight and anonymous two-factor authentication scheme for drones. The proposed scheme is based on an asymmetric cryptographic method to provide a secure system and is more suitable than the other existing schemes by securing real-time information. Moreover, the comparison shows that the proposed scheme minimized the complexity of communication and computation costs.
Secure Suite: An Open-Source Service for Internet Security. SoutheastCon 2021. :1—7.
.
2021. Internet security is constantly at risk as a result of the fast developing and highly sophisticated exploitation methods. These attacks use numerous media to take advantage of the most vulnerable of Internet users. Phishing, spam calling, unsecure content and other means of intrusion threaten Internet users every day. In order to maintain the security and privacy of sensitive user data, the user must pay for services that include the storage and generation of secure passwords, monitoring internet traffic to discourage navigation to malicious websites, among other services. Some people do not have the money to purchase privacy protection services and others find convoluted euphemisms baked into privacy policies quite confusing. In response to this problem, we developed an Internet security software package, Secure Suite, which we provide as open source and hence free of charge. Users can easily deploy and manage Secure Suite. It is composed of a password manager, a malicious URL detection service, dubbed MalURLNet, a URL extender, data visualization tools, a browser extension to interact with the web app, and utility tools to maintain data integrity. MalURLNet is one of the main components of Secure Suite. It utilizes deep learning and other open-source software to mitigate security threats by identifying malicious URLs. We exhaustively tested our proposed MalURLNet service. Our studies show that MalURLNet outperforms four other well-known URL classifiers in terms of accuracy, loss, precision, recall, and F1-Score.
Secured Test Pattern Generators for BIST. 2021 5th International Conference on Computing Methodologies and Communication (ICCMC). :542—546.
.
2021. With the development in IC technology, testing the designs is becoming more and more complex. In the design, process testing consumes 60-80% of the time. The basic testing principle is providing the circuit under test (CUT) with input patterns, observing output responses, and comparing against the desired response called the golden response. As the density of the device are rising leads to difficulty in examining the sub-circuit of the chip. So, testing of design is becoming a time-consuming and costly process. Attaching additional logic to the circuit resolves the issue by testing itself. BIST is a relatively a design for testability technique to facilitate thorough testing of ICs and it comprises the test pattern generator, circuit under test, and output response analyzer. Quick diagnosis and very high fault coverage can be ensured by BIST. As complexity in the circuit is increasing, testing urges TPGs (Test Pattern Generators) to generate the test patterns for the CUT to sensitize the faults. TPGs are vulnerable to malicious activities such as scan-based side-channel attacks. Secret data saved on the chip can be extracted by an attacker by scanning out the test outcomes. These threats lead to the emergence of securing TPGs. This work demonstrates providing a secured test pattern generator for BIST circuits by locking the logic of TPG with a password or key generated by the key generation circuit. Only when the key is provided test patterns are generated. This provides versatile protection to TPG from malicious attacks such as scan-based side-channel attacks, Intellectual Property (IP) privacy, and IC overproduction.
Securing Data Communication Through MQTT Protocol with AES-256 Encryption Algorithm CBC Mode on ESP32-Based Smart Homes. 2021 International Conference on Computer System, Information Technology, and Electrical Engineering (COSITE). :166–170.
.
2021. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that allows connection between devices using the internet to collect and exchange data with each other. Privacy and security have become the most pressing issues in the IoT network, especially in the smart home. Nevertheless, there are still many smart home devices that have not implemented security and privacy policies. This study proposes a remote sensor control system built on ESP32 to implement a smart home through the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport(MQTT) protocol by applying the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with a 256-bit key. It addresses security issues in the smart home by encrypting messages sent from users to sensors. Besides ESP32, the system implementation also uses Raspberry Pi and smartphone with Android applications. The network was analyzed using Wireshark, and it showed that the message sent was encrypted. This implementation could prevent brute force attacks, with the result that it could guarantee the confidentiality of a message. Meanwhile, from several experiments conducted in this study, the difference in the average time of sending encrypted and unencrypted messages was not too significant, i.e., 20 ms.
Securing Drone-based Ad Hoc Network Using Blockchain. 2021 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Smart Systems (ICAIS). :1314–1318.
.
2021. The research proposal discloses a novel drone-based ad-hoc network that leverages acoustic information for power plant surveillance and utilizes a secure blockchain model for protecting the integrity of drone communication over the network. The paper presents a vision for the drone-based networks, wherein drones are employed for monitoring the complex power plant machinery. The drones record acoustic information generated by the power plants and detect anomalies or deviations in machine behavior based on collected acoustic data. The drones are linked to distributed network of computing devices in possession with the plant stakeholders, wherein each computing device maintains a chain of data blocks. The chain of data blocks represents one or more transactions associated with power plants, wherein transactions are related to high risk auditory data set accessed by the drones in an event of anomaly or machine failure. The computing devices add at least one data block to the chain of data blocks in response to valid transaction data, wherein the transaction data is validated by the computing devices owned by power plant personnel.
Security and privacy in IoT, Cloud and Augmented Reality. 2021 6th International Conference on Signal Processing, Computing and Control (ISPCC). :131—135.
.
2021. Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud and Augmented Reality (AR) are the emerging and developing technologies and are at the horizon and hype of their life cycle. Lots of commercial applications based on IoT, cloud and AR provide unrestricted access to data. The real-time applications based on these technologies are at the cusp of their innovations. The most frequent security attacks for IoT, cloud and AR applications are DDoS attacks. In this paper a detailed account of various DDoS attacks that can be the hindrance of many important sensitive services and can degrade the overall performance of recent services which are purely based on network communications. The DDoS attacks should be dealt with carefully and a set of a new generations of algorithm need to be developed to mitigate the problems caused by non-repudiation kinds of attacks.
Security Enhancements to Subscriber Privacy Protection Scheme in 5G Systems. 2021 International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing (IWCMC). :451–456.
.
2021. Subscription permanent identifier has been concealed in the 5G systems by using the asymmetric encryption scheme as specified in standard 3GPP TS 33.501 to protect the subscriber privacy. The standardized scheme is however subject to the SUPI guess attack as the public key of the home network is publicly available. Moreover, it lacks the inherent mechanism to prevent SUCI replay attacks. In this paper, we propose three methods to enhance the security of the 3GPP scheme to thwart the SUPI guess attack and replay attack. One of these methods is suggested to be used to strengthen the security of the current subscriber protection scheme.
Semi-Supervised Feature Embedding for Data Sanitization in Real-World Events. ICASSP 2021 - 2021 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP). :2495—2499.
.
2021. With the rapid growth of data sharing through social media networks, determining relevant data items concerning a particular subject becomes paramount. We address the issue of establishing which images represent an event of interest through a semi-supervised learning technique. The method learns consistent and shared features related to an event (from a small set of examples) to propagate them to an unlabeled set. We investigate the behavior of five image feature representations considering low- and high-level features and their combinations. We evaluate the effectiveness of the feature embedding approach on five collected datasets from real-world events.
Service Quality Loss-aware Privacy Protection Mechanism in Edge-Cloud IoTs. 2021 13th International Conference on Advanced Computational Intelligence (ICACI). :207—214.
.
2021. With the continuous development of edge computing, the application scope of mobile crowdsourcing (MCS) is constantly increasing. The distributed nature of edge computing can transmit data at the edge of processing to meet the needs of low latency. The trustworthiness of the third-party platform will affect the level of privacy protection, because managers of the platform may disclose the information of workers. Anonymous servers also belong to third-party platforms. For unreal third-party platforms, this paper recommends that workers first use the localized differential privacy mechanism to interfere with the real location information, and then upload it to an anonymous server to request services, called the localized differential anonymous privacy protection mechanism (LDNP). The two privacy protection mechanisms further enhance privacy protection, but exacerbate the loss of service quality. Therefore, this paper proposes to give corresponding compensation based on the authenticity of the location information uploaded by workers, so as to encourage more workers to upload real location information. Through comparative experiments on real data, the LDNP algorithm not only protects the location privacy of workers, but also maintains the availability of data. The simulation experiment verifies the effectiveness of the incentive mechanism.
Set Reconciliation for Blockchains with Slepian-Wolf Coding: Deletion Polar Codes. 2021 13th International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP). :1–5.
.
2021. In this paper, we propose a polar coding based scheme for set reconciliation between two network nodes. The system is modeled as a well-known Slepian-Wolf setting induced by a fixed number of deletions. The set reconciliation process is divided into two phases: 1) a deletion polar code is employed to help one node to identify the possible deletion indices, which may be larger than the number of genuine deletions; 2) a lossless compression polar code is then designed to feedback those indices with minimum overhead. Our scheme can be viewed as a generalization of polar codes to some emerging network-based applications such as the package synchronization in blockchains. The total overhead is linear to the number of packages, and immune to the package size.
A Simple Data Augmentation Method to Improve the Performance of Named Entity Recognition Models in Medical Domain. 2021 6th International Conference on Computer Science and Engineering (UBMK). :763–768.
.
2021. Easy Data Augmentation is originally developed for text classification tasks. It consists of four basic methods: Synonym Replacement, Random Insertion, Random Deletion, and Random Swap. They yield accuracy improvements on several deep neural network models. In this study we apply these methods to a new domain. We augment Named Entity Recognition datasets from medical domain. Although the augmentation task is much more difficult due to the nature of named entities which consist of word or word groups in the sentences, we show that we can improve the named entity recognition performance.
Smart Door System with COVID-19 Risk Factor Evaluation, Contactless Data Acquisition and Sanitization. 2021 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Smart Systems (ICAIS). :1504—1511.
.
2021. Thousands of people have lost their life by COVID-19 infection. Authorities have seen the calamities caused by the corona virus in China. So, when the trace of virus was found in India, the only possible way to stop the spread of the virus was to go into lockdown. In a country like India where a major part of the population depends on the daily wages, being in lockdown started affecting their life. People where tend to go out for getting the food items and other essentials, and this caused the spread of virus. Many were infected and many lost their life by this. Due to the pandemic, the whole world was affected and many people working in foreign countries lost their jobs as well. These people who came back to India caused further spread of the virus. The main reason for the spread is lack of hygiene and a proper system to monitor the symptoms. Even though our country was in lockdown for almost 6 months the number of COVID cases doesn't get diminished. It is not practical to extend the lockdown any further, and people have decided to live with the virus. But it is essential to take the necessary precautions while interacting with the society. Automated system for checking that all the COVID protocols are followed and early symptom identification before entering to a place are essential to stop the spread of the infection. This research work proposes a smart door system, which evaluates the COVID-19 risk factors and collects the data of person before entering into any place, thereby ensuring that non-infected people are only entering to the place and thus the spread of virus can be avoided.
Source Code Analysis for Mobile Applications for Privacy Leaks. 2021 IEEE Madras Section Conference (MASCON). :1—6.
.
2021. Intelligent gadgets for example smartphones, tablet phones, and personal digital assistants play an increasingly important part in our lives and have become indispensable in our everyday routines. As a result, the market for mobile apps tends to grow at a rapid rate, and mobile app utilization has long eclipsed that of desktop software. The applications based on these smartphones are becoming vulnerable due to the use of open-source operating systems in these smart devices. These applications are vulnerable to smartphones because of memory leaks; they can steal personal data, hack our smartphones, and monitor our private activity, giving anyone significant financial loss. Because of these issues, smartphone security plays a vital role in our daily lives. The Play Store contains unrated applications which any unprofessional developer can develop, and these applications do not pass through the rigorous process of testing and analysis of code leaks. The existing developed system does not include a stringent procedure to examine and investigate source code to detect such vulnerabilities among mobile applications. This paper presented a dynamic analysis-based robust system for Source Code Analysis of Mobile Applications for Privacy Leaks using a machine learning algorithm. Furthermore, our framework is called Source Code Analysis of Mobile Applications (SCA-MA), which combines DynaLog and our machine learning-based classifier for Source Code Analysis of Mobile Applications. Our dataset will contain around 20000 applications to test and analyze vulnerabilities. We will perform dynamic analysis and separate the classification of vulnerable applications and safe applications. Our results show that we can detect vulnerabilities through our proposed system while reviewing code and provide better results than other existing frameworks. We have evaluated our large dataset with the pervasive way so we can detect even small privacy leak which can harm our app. Finally, we have compared results with existing methods, and framework performance is better than other methods.
Sovrin Network for Decentralized Digital Identity: Analysing a Self-Sovereign Identity System Based on Distributed Ledger Technology. 2021 IEEE International Symposium on Systems Engineering (ISSE). :1–7.
.
2021. Digital identity is the key to the evolving digital society and economy. Since the inception of digital identity, numerous Identity Management (IDM) systems have been developed to manage digital identity depending on the requirements of the individual and that of organisations. This evolution of IDM systems has provided an incremental process leading to the granting of control of identity ownership and personal data to its user, thus producing an IDM which is more user-centric with enhanced security and privacy. A recently promising IDM known as Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) has the potential to provide this sovereignty to the identity owner. The Sovrin Network is an emerging SSI service utility enabling self-sovereign identity for all, therefore, its assessment has to be carefully considered with reference to its architecture, working, functionality, strengths and limitations. This paper presents an analysis of the Sovrin Network based on aforementioned features. Firstly, it presents the architecture and components of the Sovrin Network. Secondly, it illustrates the working of the Sovrin Network and performs a detailed analysis of its various functionalities and metrics. Finally, based on the detailed analysis, it presents the strengths and limitations of the Sovrin Network.
Standard CMOS Integrated Ultra-Compact Micromechanical Oscillating Active Pixel Arrays. 2021 IEEE 34th International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS). :157–160.
.
2021. This work demonstrates an ultra-compact low power oscillating micromechanical active pixel array based on a 0.35 μm back-end of line (BEOL)-embedded CMOS-MEMS technology. Each pixel consists of a 3-MHz clamped-clamped beam (CCB) MEMS resonator and a power scalable transimpedance amplifier (TIA) that occupies a small area of 70 × 60 μm2 and draws only 85 μW/pixel. The MEMS resonator is placed next to the TIA with less than 10 μm spacing thanks to the well-defined etch stops in the titanium nitride composite (TiN-C) CMOS-MEMS platform. A multiplexing phase-locked loop (PLL)-driven oscillator is employed to demonstrate the chip functionality. In particular, a nonlinear operation of the resonator tank is used to optimize the phase noise (PN) performance and Allan deviation (ADEV) behavior. The ADEV of 420 ppb averaged over best 3-pixels is exhibited based on such a nonlinear vibration operation.

Support Forward Secure Smart Grid Data Deduplication and Deletion Mechanism. 2021 2nd Asia Symposium on Signal Processing (ASSP). :67–76.
.
2021. With the vigorous development of the Internet and the widespread popularity of smart devices, the amount of data it generates has also increased exponentially, which has also promoted the generation and development of cloud computing and big data. Given cloud computing and big data technology, cloud storage has become a good solution for people to store and manage data at this stage. However, when cloud storage manages and regulates massive amounts of data, its security issues have become increasingly prominent. Aiming at a series of security problems caused by a malicious user's illegal operation of cloud storage and the loss of all data, this paper proposes a threshold signature scheme that is signed by a private key composed of multiple users. When this method performs key operations of cloud storage, multiple people are required to sign, which effectively prevents a small number of malicious users from violating data operations. At the same time, the threshold signature method in this paper uses a double update factor algorithm. Even if the attacker obtains the key information at this stage, he can not calculate the complete key information before and after the time period, thus having the two-way security and greatly improving the security of the data in the cloud storage.
A Survey on Amazon Alexa Attack Surfaces. 2021 IEEE 18th Annual Consumer Communications Networking Conference (CCNC). :1–7.
.
2021. Since being launched in 2014, Alexa, Amazon's versatile cloud-based voice service, is now active in over 100 million households worldwide [1]. Alexa's user-friendly, personalized vocal experience offers customers a more natural way of interacting with cutting-edge technology by allowing the ability to directly dictate commands to the assistant. Now in the present year, the Alexa service is more accessible than ever, available on hundreds of millions of devices from not only Amazon but third-party device manufacturers. Unfortunately, that success has also been the source of concern and controversy. The success of Alexa is based on its effortless usability, but in turn, that has led to a lack of sufficient security. This paper surveys various attacks against Amazon Alexa ecosystem including attacks against the frontend voice capturing and the cloud backend voice command recognition and processing. Overall, we have identified six attack surfaces covering the lifecycle of Alexa voice interaction that spans several stages including voice data collection, transmission, processing and storage. We also discuss the potential mitigation solutions for each attack surface to better improve Alexa or other voice assistants in terms of security and privacy.
A Survey on Cyber Security Attacks and Countermeasures in Smart Grid Metering Network. 2021 5th International Conference on Computing Methodologies and Communication (ICCMC). :160—165.

2021. Smart grid (SG) network is one of the recently improved networks of tangled entities, objects, and smart metering infrastructure (SMI). It plays a vital part in sensing, acquiring, observing, aggregating, controlling, and dealing with various kinds of fields in SG. The SMI or advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is proposed to make available a real-time transmissions connection among users and services are Time of use (TOU), Real time pricing (RTP), Critical Peak Pricing (CPP). In adding to, additional benefit of SMs is which are capable to report back to the service control center in near real time nontechnical losses (for instance, tampering with meters, bypassing meters, and illicit tapping into distribution systems). SMI supports two-way transmission meters reading electrical utilization at superior frequency. This data is treated in real time and signals send to manage demand. This paper expresses a transitory impression of cyberattack instances in customary energy networks and SMI. This paper presents cyber security attacks and countermeasures in Smart Grid Metering Network (SGMN). Based on the existing survey threat models, a number of proposed ways have been planned to deal with all threats in the formulation of the secrecy and privacy necessities of SG measurement network.
A Survey on Security and Privacy Threats to Federated Learning. 2021 International Conference on Networking and Network Applications (NaNA). :319–326.
.
2021. Federated learning (FL) has nourished a promising scheme to solve the data silo, which enables multiple clients to construct a joint model without centralizing data. The critical concerns for flourishing FL applications are that build a security and privacy-preserving learning environment. It is thus highly necessary to comprehensively identify and classify potential threats to utilize FL under security guarantees. This paper starts from the perspective of launched attacks with different computing participants to construct the unique threats classification, highlighting the significant attacks, e.g., poisoning attacks, inference attacks, and generative adversarial networks (GAN) attacks. Our study shows that existing FL protocols do not always provide sufficient security, containing various attacks from both clients and servers. GAN attacks lead to larger significant threats among the kinds of threats given the invisible of the attack process. Moreover, we summarize a detailed review of several defense mechanisms and approaches to resist privacy risks and security breaches. Then advantages and weaknesses are generalized, respectively. Finally, we conclude the paper to prospect the challenges and some potential research directions.
Survivalism: Systematic Analysis of Windows Malware Living-Off-The-Land. 2021 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy (SP). :1557—1574.
.
2021. As malware detection algorithms and methods become more sophisticated, malware authors adopt equally sophisticated evasion mechanisms to defeat them. Anecdotal evidence claims Living-Off-The-Land (LotL) techniques are one of the major evasion techniques used in many malware attacks. These techniques leverage binaries already present in the system to conduct malicious actions. We present the first large-scale systematic investigation of the use of these techniques by malware on Windows systems. In this paper, we analyse how common the use of these native system binaries is across several malware datasets, containing a total of 31,805,549 samples. We identify an average 9.41% prevalence. Our results show that the use of LotL techniques is prolific, particularly in Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) malware samples where the prevalence is 26.26%, over twice that of commodity malware. To illustrate the evasive potential of LotL techniques, we test the usage of LotL techniques against several fully patched Windows systems in a local sandboxed environment and show that there is a generalised detection gap in 10 of the most popular anti-virus products.
