Software supply chain attacks occur during the processes of producing software is compromised, resulting in vulnerabilities that target downstream customers. While the number of successful exploits is limited, the impact of these attacks is significant. Despite increased awareness and research into software supply chain attacks, there is limited information available on mitigating or architecting for these risks, and existing information is focused on singular and independent elements of the supply chain. In this paper, we extensively review software supply chain security using software development tools and infrastructure. We investigate the path that attackers find is least resistant followed by adapting and finding the next best way to complete an attack. We also provide a thorough discussion on how common software supply chain attacks can be prevented, preventing malicious hackers from gaining access to an organization's development tools and infrastructure including the development environment. We considered various SSC attacks on stolen code-sign certificates by malicious attackers and prevented unnoticed malware from passing by security scanners. We are aiming to extend our research to contribute to preventing software supply chain attacks by proposing novel techniques and frameworks.
Shaocheng, Wu, Hefang, Jiang, Sijian, Li, Tao, Liu.  2022.  Design of a chaotic sequence cipher algorithm. 2022 IEEE 2nd International Conference on Data Science and Computer Application (ICDSCA). :320–323.
To protect the security of video information use encryption technology to be effective means. In practical applications, the structural complexity and real-time characteristics of video information make the encryption effect of some commonly used algorithms have some shortcomings. According to the characteristics of video, to design practical encryption algorithm is necessary. This paper proposed a novel scheme of chaotic image encryption, which is based on scrambling and diffusion structure. Firstly, the breadth first search method is used to scramble the pixel position in the original image, and then the pseudo-random sequence generated by the time-varying bilateral chaotic symbol system is used to transform each pixel of the scrambled image ratio by ratio or encryption. In the simulation experiment and analysis, the performance of the encrypted image message entropy displays that the new chaotic image encryption scheme is effective.

Since data security is an important branch of the wide concept of security, using simple and interpretable data security methods is deemed necessary. A considerable volume of data that is transferred through the internet is in the form of image. Therefore, several methods have focused on encrypting and decrypting images but some of the conventional algorithms are complex and time consuming. On the other hand, denial method or steganography has attracted the researchers' attention leading to more security for transferring images. This is because attackers are not aware of encryption on images and therefore they do not try to decrypt them. Here, one of the most effective and simplest operators (XOR) is employed. The received shares in destination only with XOR operation can recover original images. Users are not necessary to be familiar with computer programing, data coding and the execution time is lesser compared to chaos-based methods or coding table. Nevertheless, for designing the key when we have messy images, we use chaotic functions. Here, in addition to use the XOR operation, eliminating the pixel expansion and meaningfulness of the shared images is of interest. This method is simple and efficient and use both encryption and steganography; therefore, it can guarantee the security of transferred images.

This paper dives into the growing world of IoT botnets that have taken the world by storm in the past five years. Though alone an IP camera cannot produce enough traffic to be considered a DDoS. But a botnet that has over 150,000 connected IP cameras can generate as much as 1 Tbps in traffic. Botnets catch many by surprise because their attacks and infections may not be as apparent as a DDoS, some other cases include using these cameras and printers for extracting information or quietly mine cryptocurrency at the IoT device owner's expense. Here we analyze damages on IoT hacking and define botnet architecture. An overview of Mirai botnet and cryptojacking provided to better understand the IoT botnets.

The internet has developed and transformed the world dramatically in recent years, which has resulted in several cyberattacks. Cybersecurity is one of society’s most serious challenge, costing millions of dollars every year. The research presented here will look into this area, focusing on malware that can establish botnets, and in particular, detecting connections made by infected workstations connecting with the attacker’s machine. In recent years, the frequency of network security incidents has risen dramatically. Botnets have previously been widely used by attackers to carry out a variety of malicious activities, such as compromising machines to monitor their activities by installing a keylogger or sniffing traffic, launching Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks, stealing the identity of the machine or credentials, and even exfiltrating data from the user’s computer. Botnet detection is still a work in progress because no one approach exists that can detect a botnet’s whole ecosystem. A detailed analysis of a botnet, discuss numerous parameter’s result of detection methods related to botnet attacks, as well as existing work of botnet identification in field of machine learning are discuss here. This paper focuses on the comparative analysis of various classifier based on design of botnet detection technique which are able to detect P2P botnet using machine learning classifier.

CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is an important security technique designed to deter bots from abusing software systems, which has broader applications in cyberspace. CAPTCHAs come in a variety of forms, including the deciphering of obfuscated text, transcribing of audio messages, and tracking mouse movement, among others. This paper focuses on using deep learning techniques to recognize text-based CAPTCHAs. In particular, our work focuses on generating training datasets using different CAPTCHA schemes, along with a pre-processing technique allowing for character-based recognition. We have encapsulated the CRABI (CAPTCHA Recognition with Attached Binary Images) framework to give an image multiple labels for improvement in feature extraction. Using real-world datasets, performance evaluations are conducted to validate the efficacy of our proposed approach on several neural network architectures (e.g., custom CNN architecture, VGG16, ResNet50, and MobileNet). The experimental results confirm that over 90% accuracy can be achieved on most models.

Propagation delay in blockchain networks is a major impairment of message transmission and validation in the bitcoin network. The transaction delay caused by message propagation across long network chains can cause significant threats to the bitcoin network integrity by allowing miners to find blocks during the message consensus process. Potential threats of slow transaction dissemination include double-spending, partitions, and eclipse attacks. In this paper, we propose a method for minimizing propagation delay by reducing non-compulsory message broadcasts during transaction dissemination in the underlying blockchain network. Our method will decrease the propagation delay in the bitcoin network and consequently mitigate the security threats based on message dissemination delay. Our results show improvement in the delay time with more effect on networks with a large number of nodes.

Smart phones have become the preferred way for Chinese Internet users currently. The mobile phone traffic is large from the operating system. These traffic is mainly generated by the services. In the context of the universal encryption of the traffic, classification identification of mobile encryption services can effectively reduce the difficulty of analytical difficulty due to mobile terminals and operating system diversity, and can more accurately identify user access targets, and then enhance service quality and network security management. The existing mobile encryption service classification methods have two shortcomings in feature selection: First, the DL model is used as a black box, and the features of large dimensions are not distinguished as input of classification model, which resulting in sharp increase in calculation complexity, and the actual application is limited. Second, the existing feature selection method is insufficient to use the time and space associated information of traffic, resulting in less robustness and low accuracy of the classification. In this paper, we propose a feature enhancement method based on adjacent flow contextual features and evaluate the Apple encryption service traffic collected from the real world. Based on 5 DL classification models, the refined classification accuracy of Apple services is significantly improved. Our work can provide an effective solution for the fine management of mobile encryption services.

Most existing deep neural networks (DNNs) are inexplicable and fragile, which can be easily deceived by carefully designed adversarial example with tiny undetectable noise. This allows attackers to cause serious consequences in many DNN-assisted scenarios without human perception. In the field of speaker recognition, the attack for speaker recognition system has been relatively mature. Most works focus on white-box attacks that assume the information of the DNN is obtainable, and only a few works study gray-box attacks. In this paper, we study blackbox attacks on the speaker recognition system, which can be applied in the real world since we do not need to know the system information. By combining the idea of transferable attack and query attack, our proposed method NMI-FGSM-Tri can achieve the targeted goal by misleading the system to recognize any audio as a registered person. Specifically, our method combines the Nesterov accelerated gradient (NAG), the ensemble attack and the restart trigger to design an attack method that generates the adversarial audios with good performance to attack blackbox DNNs. The experimental results show that the effect of the proposed method is superior to the extant methods, and the attack success rate can reach as high as 94.8% even if only one query is allowed.
Tong, Yan, Ku, Zhaoyu, Chen, Nanxin, Sheng, Hu.  2022.  Research on Mechanical Fault Diagnosis of Vacuum Circuit Breaker Based on Deep Belief Network. 2022 2nd International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics Technology (ICEEMT). :259–263.
VCB is an important component to ensure the safe and smooth operation of the power system. As an important driving part of the vacuum circuit breaker, the operating mechanism is prone to mechanical failure, which leads to power grid accidents. This paper offers an in-depth analysis of the mechanical faults of the operating mechanism of vacuum circuit breaker and their causes, extracts the current signal of the opening and closing coil strongly correlated with the mechanical faults of the operating mechanism as the characteristic information to build a Deep Belief Network (DBN) model, trains each data set via Restricted Boltzmann Machine(RBM) and updates the model parameters. The number of hidden layer nodes, the structure of the network layer, and the learning rate are determined, and the mechanical fault diagnosis system of vacuum circuit breaker based on the Deep Belief Network is established. The results show that when the network structure is 8-110-110-6 and the learning rate is 0.01, the recognition accuracy of the DBN model is the highest, which is 0.990871. Compared with BP neural network, DBN has a smaller cross-entropy error and higher accuracy. This method can accurately diagnose the mechanical fault of the vacuum circuit breaker, which lays a foundation for the smooth operation of the power system.

The selection of distribution network faults is of great significance to accurately identify the fault location, quickly restore power and improve the reliability of power supply. This paper mainly studies the fault phase selection method of distribution network based on wavelet singular entropy and deep belief network (DBN). Firstly, the basic principles of wavelet singular entropy and DBN are analyzed, and on this basis, the DBN model of distribution network fault phase selection is proposed. Firstly, the transient fault current data of the distribution network is processed to obtain the wavelet singular entropy of the three phases, which is used as the input of the fault phase selection model; then the DBN network is improved, and an artificial neural network (ANN) is introduced to make it a fault Select the phase classifier, and specify the output label; finally, use Simulink to build a simulation model of the IEEE33 node distribution network system, obtain a large amount of data of various fault types, generate a training sample library and a test sample library, and analyze the neural network. The adjustment of the structure and the training of the parameters complete the construction of the DBN model for the fault phase selection of the distribution network.

In the operation of information technology (IT) services, operators monitor the equipment-issued alarms, to locate the cause of a failure and take action. Alarms generate simultaneously from multiple devices with physical/logical connections. Therefore, if the time and location of the alarms are close to each other, it can be judged that the alarms are likely to be caused by the same event. In this paper, we propose a method that takes a novel approach by correlating alarms considering event units using a Bayesian network based on alarm generation time, generation place, and alarm type. The topology information becomes a critical decision element when doing the alarm correlation. However, errors may occur when topology information updates manually during failures or construction. Therefore, we show that event-by-event correlation with 100% accuracy is possible even if the topology information is 25% wrong by taking into location information other than topology information.

Thefts problem in household needs to be anticipated with home security system. One of simple methods is using automatic solenoid door lock system, so that it is difficult to be duplicated and will reduce the chance of theft action when the house is empty. Therefore, a home security system prototype that can be accessed by utilizing biometric fingerprint, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and keypad sensors was designed and tested. Arduino Uno works to turn on the door lock solenoid, so door access will be given when authentication is successful. Experimental results show that fingerprint sensor works well by being able to read fingerprints perfectly and the average time required to scan a fingerprint was 3.7 seconds. Meanwhile, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensor detects Electronic-Kartu Tanda Penduduk (E-KTP) and the average time required for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to scan the card is about 2.4 seconds. Keypad functions to store password to unlock the door which produces the average time of 3.7 seconds after 10 trials. Average time to open with multi-sensor is 9.8 seconds. However, its drawback is no notification or SMS which directly be accessed by a cellphone or website with Wi-Fi or Telegram applications allow homeowners to monitor their doors from afar as to minimize the number of house thefts.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) improves the efficiency of managing assets in supply chain applications throughout an entire life cycle or while in transport. Transfer of ownership of RFID-tagged items involves replacing information authorizing the old owner with information authorizing the new owner. In this work, we present a two-party, multiple tag, single-owner protocol for ownership transfer: 2P-mtOTP. This two-party protocol depends only on the communication among the two owners and the tags. Further, 2P-mtOTP is robust to attacks on its security, and it preserves the privacy of the owners and tags. We analyze our work in comparison to recent ownership transfer protocols in terms of security, privacy, and efficiency.

The outsourcing of databases is very popular among IT companies and industries. It acts as a solution for businesses to ensure availability of the data for their users. The solution of outsourcing the database is to encrypt the data in a form where the database service provider can perform relational operations over the encrypted database. At the same time, the associated security risk of data leakage prevents many potential industries from deploying it. In this paper, we present a secure outsourcing database search scheme (BASDB) with the use of a smart contract for search operation over index of encrypted database and storing encrypted relational database in the cloud. Our proposed scheme BASDB is a simple and practical solution for effective search on encrypted relations and is well resistant to information leakage against attacks like search and access pattern leakage.

Deep learning-based semantic communications (DLSC) significantly improve communication efficiency by only transmitting the meaning of the data rather than a raw message. Such a novel paradigm can brace the high-demand applications with massive data transmission and connectivities, such as automatic driving and internet-of-things. However, DLSC are also highly vulnerable to various attacks, such as eavesdropping, surveillance, and spoofing, due to the openness of wireless channels and the fragility of neural models. To tackle this problem, we present SemKey, a novel physical layer key generation (PKG) scheme that aims to secure the DLSC by exploring the underlying randomness of deep learning-based semantic communication systems. To boost the generation rate of the secret key, we introduce a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) and tune its elements with the randomness of semantic drifts between a transmitter and a receiver. Precisely, we first extract the random features of the semantic communication system to form the randomly varying switch sequence of the RIS-assisted channel and then employ the parallel factor-based channel detection method to perform the channel detection under RIS assistance. Experimental results show that our proposed SemKey significantly improves the secret key generation rate, potentially paving the way for physical layer security for DLSC.

True Random Number Generator (TRNG) is an important hardware security primitive for system security. TRNGs are capable of providing random bits for initialization vectors in encryption engines, for padding and nonces in authentication protocols and for seeds to pseudo random number generators (PRNG). A TRNG needs to meet the same statistical quality standards as a physical unclonable function (PUF) with regard to randomness and uniqueness, and therefore one can envision a unified architecture for both functions. In this paper, we investigate a FPGA implementation of a TRNG using the Shift-register Reconvergent-Fanout (SiRF) PUF. The SiRF PUF measures path delays as a source of entropy within a engineered logic gate netlist. The delays are measured at high precision using a time-to-digital converter, and then processed into a random bitstring using a series of linear-time mathematical operations. The SiRF PUF algorithm that is used for key generation is reused for the TRNG, with simplifications that improve the bit generation rate of the algorithm. This enables the TRNG to leverage both fixed PUF-based entropy and random noise sources, and makes the TRNG resilient to temperature-voltage attacks. TRNG bitstrings generated from a programmable logic implementation of the SiRF PUF-TRNG on a set of FPGAs are evaluated using statistical testing tools.

5G has received significant interest from commercial as well as defense industries. However, resiliency in 5G remains a major concern for its use in military and defense applications. In this paper, we explore physical layer resiliency enhancements for 5G and use narrow-band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) as a study case. Two physical layer modifications, frequency hopping, and direct sequence spreading, are analyzed from the standpoint of implementation and performance. Simulation results show that these techniques are effective to harden the resiliency of the physical layer to interference and jamming. A discussion of protocol considerations for 5G and beyond is provided based on the results.

Tiwari, Aditya, Sengar, Neha, Yadav, Vrinda.  2022.  Next Word Prediction Using Deep Learning. 2022 IEEE Global Conference on Computing, Power and Communication Technologies (GlobConPT). :1–6.
Next Word Prediction involves guessing the next word which is most likely to come after the current word. The system suggests a few words. A user can choose a word according to their choice from a list of suggested word by system. It increases typing speed and reduces keystrokes of the user. It is also useful for disabled people to enter text slowly and for those who are not good with spellings. Previous studies focused on prediction of the next word in different languages. Some of them are Bangla, Assamese, Ukraine, Kurdish, English, and Hindi. According to Census 2011, 43.63% of the Indian population uses Hindi, the national language of India. In this work, deep learning techniques are proposed to predict the next word in Hindi language. The paper uses Long Short Term Memory and Bidirectional Long Short Term Memory as the base neural network architecture. The model proposed in this work outperformed the existing approaches and achieved the best accuracy among neural network based approaches on IITB English-Hindi parallel corpus.

Kerberos protocol is a derivative type of server used for the authentication purpose. Kerberos is a network-based authentication protocol which communicates the tickets from one network to another in a secured manner. Kerberos protocol encrypts the messages and provides mutual authentication. Kerberos uses the symmetric cryptography which uses the public key to strengthen the data confidentiality. The KDS Key Distribution System gives the center of securing the messages. Kerberos has certain disadvantages as it provides public key at both ends. In this proposed approach, the Kerberos are secured by using the HMAC Hash-based Message Authentication Code which is used for the authentication of message for integrity and authentication purpose. It verifies the data by authentication, verifies the e-mail address and message integrity. The computer network and security are authenticated by verifying the user or client. These messages which are transmitted and delivered have to be integrated by authenticating it. Kerberos authentication is used for the verification of a host or user. Authentication is based on the tickets on credentials in a secured way. Kerberos gives faster authentication and uses the unique ticketing system. It supports the authentication delegation with faster efficiency. These encrypt the standard by encrypting the tickets to pass the information.

Military networks consist of heterogeneous devices that provide soldiers with real-time terrain and mission intel-ligence. The development of next-generation Software Defined Networks (SDN)-enabled devices is enabling the modernization of traditional military networks. Commonly, traditional military networks take the trustworthiness of devices for granted. How-ever, the recent modernization of military networks introduces cyber attacks such as data and identity spoofing attacks. Hence, it is crucial to ensure the trustworthiness of network traffic to ensure the mission's outcome. This work proposes a Continuous Behavior-based Authentication (CBA) protocol that integrates network traffic analysis techniques to provide robust and efficient network management flow by separating data and control planes in SDN-enabled military networks. The evaluation of the CBA protocol aimed to measure the efficiency of the proposed protocol in realistic military networks. Furthermore, we analyze the overall network overhead of the CBA protocol and its accuracy to detect rogue network traffic data from field devices.

The ongoing COVID-19 virus pandemic has resulted in a global tragedy due to its lethal spread. The population's vulnerability grows as a result of a lack of effective helping agents and vaccines against the virus. The spread of viruses can be mitigated by minimizing close connections between people. Social distancing is a critical containment tool for COVID-19 prevention. In this paper, the social distancing violations that are being made by the people when they are in public places are detected. As per CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) minimum distance that should be maintained by people is 2-3 meters to prevent the spread of COVID- 19, the proposed tool will be used to detect the people who are maintaining less than 2-3 meters of distance between themselves and record them as a violation. As a result, the goal of this work is to develop a deep learning-based system for object detection and tracking models in social distancing detection. For object detection models, You Only Look Once, Version 3 (YOLO v3) is used in conjunction with deep sort algorithms to balance speed and accuracy. To recognize persons in video segments, the approach applies the YOLOv3 object recognition paradigm. An efficient computer vision-based approach centered on legitimate continuous tracking of individuals is presented to determine supportive social distancing in public locations by creating a model to generate a supportive climate that contributes to public safety and detect violations through camera.
