DeepCoin: A Novel Deep Learning and Blockchain-Based Energy Exchange Framework for Smart Grids. IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. 67:1285–1297.
.
2020. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning and blockchain-based energy framework for smart grids, entitled DeepCoin. The DeepCoin framework uses two schemes, a blockchain-based scheme and a deep learning-based scheme. The blockchain-based scheme consists of five phases: setup phase, agreement phase, creating a block phase and consensus-making phase, and view change phase. It incorporates a novel reliable peer-to-peer energy system that is based on the practical Byzantine fault tolerance algorithm and it achieves high throughput. In order to prevent smart grid attacks, the proposed framework makes the generation of blocks using short signatures and hash functions. The proposed deep learning-based scheme is an intrusion detection system (IDS), which employs recurrent neural networks for detecting network attacks and fraudulent transactions in the blockchain-based energy network. We study the performance of the proposed IDS on three different sources the CICIDS2017 dataset, a power system dataset, and a web robot (Bot)-Internet of Things (IoT) dataset.
Development and Implementation of a Relay Switch Based on WiFi Technology. 2020 17th International Conference on Electrical Engineering, Computing Science and Automatic Control (CCE). :1—6.
.
2020. This article presents the design and development of a relay switch (RS) to handle electrical loads up to 20A using WiFi technology. The hardware design and the implementation methodology are explained, both for the power supply and for the wireless communication that are embedded in the same small printed circuit board. In the same way, the design of the implemented firmware to operate the developed RS is shown. An ESP-12E module is used to achieve wireless communication of the RS, which can be manipulated through a web page using an MQTT protocol or via and iOS or Arduino app. The developed RS presents at least three differentiators in relation to other similar devices on the market: it can handle a higher electrical load, has a design in accordance with national and international security standards and can use different cybersecurity strategies for wireless communication with the purpose of safe and reliable use. Experimental results using a lamp and a single-phase motor as electrical loads demonstrate an excellent performance and reliability of the developed relay switch.
Dataset Discovery in Data Lakes. 2020 IEEE 36th International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE). :709—720.
.
2020. Data analytics stands to benefit from the increasing availability of datasets that are held without their conceptual relationships being explicitly known. When collected, these datasets form a data lake from which, by processes like data wrangling, specific target datasets can be constructed that enable value- adding analytics. Given the potential vastness of such data lakes, the issue arises of how to pull out of the lake those datasets that might contribute to wrangling out a given target. We refer to this as the problem of dataset discovery in data lakes and this paper contributes an effective and efficient solution to it. Our approach uses features of the values in a dataset to construct hash- based indexes that map those features into a uniform distance space. This makes it possible to define similarity distances between features and to take those distances as measurements of relatedness w.r.t. a target table. Given the latter (and exemplar tuples), our approach returns the most related tables in the lake. We provide a detailed description of the approach and report on empirical results for two forms of relatedness (unionability and joinability) comparing them with prior work, where pertinent, and showing significant improvements in all of precision, recall, target coverage, indexing and discovery times.
Discovering Inconsistencies between Requested Permissions and Application Metadata by using Deep Learning. 2020 International Conference on Information Security and Cryptology (ISCTURKEY). :56—56.
.
2020. Android gives us opportunity to extract meaningful information from metadata. From the security point of view, the missing important information in metadata of an application could be a sign of suspicious application, which could be directed for extensive analysis. Especially the usage of dangerous permissions is expected to be explained in app descriptions. The permission-to-description fidelity problem in the literature aims to discover such inconsistencies between the usage of permissions and descriptions. This study proposes a new method based on natural language processing and recurrent neural networks. The effect of user reviews on finding such inconsistencies is also investigated in addition to application descriptions. The experimental results show that high precision is obtained by the proposed solution, and the proposed method could be used for triage of Android applications.

.
2020. With the construction of State Grid informatization, professional data such as operation inspection, marketing, and regulation have gradually shifted from offline to online. In recent years, cyberspace security incidents have occurred frequently, and national and group cybersecurity threats have emerged. As the next-generation communication system, quantum security has to satisfy the security requirements. Also, it is especially important to build the fusion application of energy network quantum private communication technology and conventional network, and to form a safe and reliable quantum-level communication technology solution suitable for the power grid. In this paper, from the perspective of the multi-terminal quantum key application, combined with a mature electricity consumption information collection system, a handheld meter reading solution based on quantum private communication technology is proposed to effectively integrate the two and achieve technological upgrading. First, from the technical theory and application fields, the current situation of quantum private communication technology and its feasibility of combining with classical facilities are introduced and analyzed. Then, the hardware security module and handheld meter reading terminal equipment are taken as typical examples to design and realize quantum key shared storage, business security process application model; finally, based on the overall environment of quantum key distribution, the architecture design of multi-terminal quantum key application verification is implemented to verify the quantum key business application process.
Detection of False Data Injection Attack in Smart Grid Using Decomposed Nearest Neighbor Techniques. 2020 10th Smart Grid Conference (SGC). :1—6.
.
2020. Smart grid communication system deeply rely on information technologies which makes it vulnerable to variable cyber-attacks. Among possible attacks, False Data Injection (FDI) Attack has created a severe threat to smart grid control system. Attackers can manipulate smart grid measurements such as collected data of phasor measurement units (PMU) by implementing FDI attacks. Detection of FDI attacks with a simple and effective approach, makes the system more reliable and prevents network outages. In this paper we propose a Decomposed Nearest Neighbor algorithm to detect FDI attacks. This algorithm improves traditional k-Nearest Neighbor by using metric learning. Also it learns the local-optima free distance metric by solving a convex optimization problem which makes it more accurate in decision making. We test the proposed method on PMU dataset and compare the results with other beneficial machine learning algorithms for FDI attack detection. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This middleware can effectively meet the requirements of TRASI for data exchange with external users and system, significantly improve the data processing speed and efficiency, and promote the information technology and automation level of Aerospace TT&C Network Management Center (TNMC).
DQ-MOTAG: Deep Reinforcement Learning-based Moving Target Defense Against DDoS Attacks. 2020 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Data Science in Cyberspace (DSC). :375—379.
.
2020. The rapid developments of mobile communication and wearable devices greatly improve our daily life, while the massive entities and emerging services also make Cyber-Physical System (CPS) much more complicated. The maintenance of CPS security tends to be more and more difficult. As a ”gamechanging” new active defense concept, Moving Target Defense (MTD) handle this tricky problem by periodically upsetting and recombining connections between users and servers in the protected system, which is so-called ”shuffle”. By this means, adversaries can hardly obtain enough time to compromise the potential victims, which is the indispensable condition to collect necessary information or conduct further malicious attacks. But every coin has two sides, MTD also introduce unbearable high energy consumption and resource occupation in the meantime, which hinders the large-scale application of MTD for quite a long time. In this paper, we propose a novel deep reinforcement learning-based MOTAG system called DQ-MOTAG. To our knowledge, this is the first work to provide self-adaptive shuffle period adjustment ability for MTD with reinforcement learning-based intelligent control mechanism. We also design an algorithm to generate optimal duration of next period to guide subsequent shuffle. Finally, we conduct a series of experiments to prove the availability and performance of DQ-MOTAG compared to exist methods. The result highlights our solution in terms of defense performance, error block rate and network source consumption.
Direct Trust-based Detection Algorithm for Preventing Jellyfish Attack in MANET. 2020 4th International Conference on Electronics, Communication and Aerospace Technology (ICECA). :749–753.
.
2020. The dynamic and adaptable characteristics of mobile ad hoc networks have made it a significant field for deploying various applications in wireless sensor networks. Increasing popularity of the portable devices is the main reason for the development of mobile ad hoc networks. Furthermore, the network does not require a fixed architecture and it is easy to deploy. This type of network is highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks as the nodes communicate with each other through a Wireless medium. The most critical attack in ad hoc network is jellyfish attack. In this research we have proposed a Direct Trust-based Detection Algorithm to detect and prevent jellyfish attack in MANET.
Developing a Secured and Reliable Vehicular Communication System and Its Performance Evaluation. 2020 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP). :60–65.
.
2020. The Ad-hoc Vehicular networks (VANET) was developed through the implementation of the concepts of ad-hoc mobile networks(MANET), which is swiftly maturing, promising, emerging wireless communication technology nowadays. Vehicular communication enables us to communicate with other vehicles and Roadside Infrastructure Units (RSU) to share information pertaining to the safety system, traffic analysis, Authentication, privacy, etc. As VANETs operate in an open wireless connectivity system, it increases permeable of variant type's security issues. Security concerns, however, which are either generally seen in ad-hoc networks or utterly unique to VANET, present significant challenges. Access Control List (ACL) can be an efficient feature to solve such security issues by permitting statements to access registered specific IP addresses in the network and deny statement unregistered IP addresses in the system. To establish such secured VANETs, the License number of the vehicle will be the Identity Number, which will be assigned via a DNS server by the Traffic Certification Authority (TCA). TCA allows registered vehicles to access the nearest two or more regions. For special vehicles, public access should be restricted by configuring ACL on a specific IP. Smart-card given by TCA can be used to authenticate a subscriber by checking previous records during entry to a new network area. After in-depth analysis of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Packet Loss Ratio (PLR), Average Delay, and Handover Delay, this research offers more secure and reliable communication in VANETs.
Design and Performance Analysis of Software Defined Networking Based Web Services Adopting Moving Target Defense. 2020 50th Annual IEEE-IFIP International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks-Supplemental Volume (DSN-S). :43—44.
.
2020. Moving Target Defense (MTD) has been emerged as a promising countermeasure to defend systems against cyberattacks asymmetrically while working well with legacy security and defense mechanisms. MTD provides proactive security services by dynamically altering attack surfaces and increasing attack cost or complexity to prevent further escalation of the attack. However, one of the non-trivial hurdles in deploying MTD techniques is how to handle potential performance degradation (e.g., interruptions of service availability) and maintain acceptable quality-of-service (QoS) in an MTD-enabled system. In this paper, we derive the service performance metrics (e.g., an extent of failed jobs) to measure how much performance degradation is introduced due to MTD operations, and propose QoS-aware service strategies (i.e., drop and wait) to manage ongoing jobs with the minimum performance degradation even under MTD operations running. We evaluate the service performance of software-defined networking (SDN)-based web services (i.e., Apache web servers). Our experimental results prove that the MTD-enabled system can minimize performance degradation by using the proposed job management strategies. The proposed strategies aim to optimize a specific service configuration (e.g., types of jobs and request rates) and effectively minimize the adverse impact of deploying MTD in the system with acceptable QoS while retaining the security effect of IP shuffling-based MTD.
Distributed Grid restoration based on graph theory. 2020 IEEE International Symposium on Sustainable Energy, Signal Processing and Cyber Security (iSSSC). :1–6.
.
2020. With the emergence of smart grids as the primary means of distribution across wide areas, the importance of improving its resilience to faults and mishaps is increasing. The reliability of a distribution system depends upon its tolerance to attacks and the efficiency of restoration after an attack occurs. This paper proposes a unique approach to the restoration of smart grids under attack by impostors or due to natural calamities via optimal islanding of the grid with primary generators and distributed generators(DGs) into sub-grids minimizing the amount of load shed which needs to be incurred and at the same time minimizing the number of switching operations via graph theory. The minimum load which needs to be shed is computed in the first stage followed by selecting the nodes whose load needs to be shed to achieve such a configuration and then finally deriving the sequence of switching operations required to achieve the configuration. The proposed method is tested against standard IEEE 37-bus and a 1069-bus grid system and the minimum load shed along with the sequencing steps to optimal configuration and time to achieve such a configuration are presented which demonstrates the effectiveness of the method when compared to the existing methods in the field. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can be easily modified to incorporate any other constraints which might arise due to any operational configuration of the grid.
Deepcode: Feedback Codes via Deep Learning. IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Information Theory. 1:194—206.
.
2020. The design of codes for communicating reliably over a statistically well defined channel is an important endeavor involving deep mathematical research and wide-ranging practical applications. In this work, we present the first family of codes obtained via deep learning, which significantly outperforms state-of-the-art codes designed over several decades of research. The communication channel under consideration is the Gaussian noise channel with feedback, whose study was initiated by Shannon; feedback is known theoretically to improve reliability of communication, but no practical codes that do so have ever been successfully constructed. We break this logjam by integrating information theoretic insights harmoniously with recurrent-neural-network based encoders and decoders to create novel codes that outperform known codes by 3 orders of magnitude in reliability and achieve a 3dB gain in terms of SNR. We also demonstrate several desirable properties of the codes: (a) generalization to larger block lengths, (b) composability with known codes, and (c) adaptation to practical constraints. This result also has broader ramifications for coding theory: even when the channel has a clear mathematical model, deep learning methodologies, when combined with channel-specific information-theoretic insights, can potentially beat state-of-the-art codes constructed over decades of mathematical research.
Decentralized placement of data and analytics in wireless networks for energy-efficient execution. IEEE INFOCOM 2020 - IEEE Conference on Computer Communications. :486—495.
.
2020. We address energy-efficient placement of data and analytics components of composite analytics services on a wireless network to minimize execution-time energy consumption (computation and communication) subject to compute, storage and network resource constraints. We introduce an expressive analytics service hypergraph model for representing k-ary composability relationships (k ≥ 2) between various analytics and data components and leverage binary quadratic programming (BQP) to minimize the total energy consumption of a given placement of the analytics hypergraph nodes on the network subject to resource availability constraints. Then, after defining a potential energy functional Φ(·) to model the affinities of analytics components and network resources using analogs of attractive and repulsive forces in physics, we propose a decentralized Metropolis Monte Carlo (MMC) sampling method which seeks to minimize Φ by moving analytics and data on the network. Although Φ is non-convex, using a potential game formulation, we identify conditions under which the algorithm provably converges to a local minimum energy equilibrium placement configuration. Trace-based simulations of the placement of a deep-neural-network analytics service on a realistic wireless network show that for smaller problem instances our MMC algorithm yields placements with total energy within a small factor of BQP and more balanced workload distributions; for larger problems, it yields low-energy configurations while the BQP approach fails.
Data Sharing for Multiple Groups with Privacy Preservation in the Cloud. 2020 International Conference on Internet of Things and Intelligent Applications (ITIA). :1—5.
.
2020. With almost unlimited storage capacity and low maintenance cost, cloud storage becomes a convenient and efficient way for data sharing among cloud users. However, this introduces the challenges of access control and privacy protection when data sharing for multiple groups, as each group usually has its own encryption and access control mechanism to protect data confidentiality. In this paper, we propose a multiple-group data sharing scheme with privacy preservation in the cloud. This scheme constructs a flexible access control framework by using group signature, ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption and broadcast encryption, which supports both intra-group and cross-group data sharing with anonymous access. Furthermore, our scheme supports efficient user revocation. The security and efficiency of the scheme are proved thorough analysis and experiments.

.
2020. With the widespread of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled security applications, there is a need for collecting heterogeneous and scalable data sources for effectively evaluating the performances of security applications. This paper presents the description of new datasets, named ToNİoT datasets that include distributed data sources collected from Telemetry datasets of Internet of Things (IoT) services, Operating systems datasets of Windows and Linux, and datasets of Network traffic. The paper aims to describe the new testbed architecture used to collect Linux datasets from audit traces of hard disk, memory and process. The architecture was designed in three distributed layers of edge, fog, and cloud. The edge layer comprises IoT and network systems, the fog layer includes virtual machines and gateways, and the cloud layer includes data analytics and visualization tools connected with the other two layers. The layers were programmatically controlled using Software-Defined Network (SDN) and Network-Function Virtualization (NFV) using the VMware NSX and vCloud NFV platform. The Linux ToNİoT datasets would be used to train and validate various new federated and distributed AI-enabled security solutions such as intrusion detection, threat intelligence, privacy preservation and digital forensics. Various Data analytical and machine learning methods are employed to determine the fidelity of the datasets in terms of examining feature engineering, statistics of legitimate and security events, and reliability of security events. The datasets can be publicly accessed from [1].

.
2020. The concept of federation in 5G and NFV networks aims to provide orchestration of services across multiple administrative domains. Edge robotics, as a field of robotics, implements the robot control on the network edge by relying on low-latency and reliable access connectivity. In this paper, we propose a solution that enables Edge robotics service to expand its service footprint or access coverage over multiple administrative domains. We propose application of Distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) for the federation procedures to enable private, secure and trusty interactions between undisclosed administrative domains. The solution is applied on a real-case Edge robotics experimental scenario. The results show that it takes around 19 seconds to deploy & federate a Edge robotics service in an external/anonymous domain without any service down-time.
Development of an AI-based System for Automatic Detection and Recognition of Weapons in Surveillance Videos. 2020 IEEE 10th Symposium on Computer Applications Industrial Electronics (ISCAIE). :48–52.
.
2020. Security cameras and video surveillance systems have become important infrastructures for ensuring safety and security of the general public. However, the detection of high-risk situations through these systems are still performed manually in many cities. The lack of manpower in the security sector and limited performance of human may result in undetected dangers or delay in detecting threats, posing risks for the public. In response, various parties have developed real-time and automated solutions for identifying risks based on surveillance videos. The aim of this work is to develop a low-cost, efficient, and artificial intelligence-based solution for the real-time detection and recognition of weapons in surveillance videos under different scenarios. The system was developed based on Tensorflow and preliminarily tested with a 294-second video which showed 7 weapons within 5 categories, including handgun, shotgun, automatic rifle, sniper rifle, and submachine gun. At the intersection over union (IoU) value of 0.50 and 0.75, the system achieved a precision of 0.8524 and 0.7006, respectively.
Design of Terminal Security Access Scheme based on Trusted Computing in Ubiquitous Electric Internet of Things. 2020 IEEE 9th Joint International Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Conference (ITAIC). 9:188–192.
.
2020. In the Ubiquitous Electric Internet of Things (UEIoT), the terminals are very easy to be accessed and attacked by attackers due to the lack of effective monitoring and safe isolation methods. Therefore, in the implementation of UEIoT, the security protection of terminals is particularly important. Therefore, this paper proposes a dual-system design scheme for terminal active immunity based on trusted computing. In this scheme, the terminal node in UEIoT is composed of two parts: computing part and trusted protection part. The computing component and the trusted protection component are logically independent of each other, forming a trusted computing active immune dual-system structure with both computing and protection functions. The Trusted Network Connection extends the trusted state of the terminal to the network, thus providing a solution for terminal secure access in the UEIoT.
Detection of False Data Injection Attacks Using the Autoencoder Approach. 2020 International Conference on Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems (PMAPS). :1—6.
.
2020. State estimation is of considerable significance for the power system operation and control. However, well-designed false data injection attacks can utilize blind spots in conventional residual-based bad data detection methods to manipulate measurements in a coordinated manner and thus affect the secure operation and economic dispatch of grids. In this paper, we propose a detection approach based on an autoencoder neural network. By training the network on the dependencies intrinsic in `normal' operation data, it effectively overcomes the challenge of unbalanced training data that is inherent in power system attack detection. To evaluate the detection performance of the proposed mechanism, we conduct a series of experiments on the IEEE 118-bus power system. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed autoencoder detector displays robust detection performance under a variety of attack scenarios.
Detection of False Data Injection Attack Based on Improved Distortion Index Method. 2020 IEEE 20th International Conference on Communication Technology (ICCT). :1161—1168.
.
2020. With the advancement of communication technology, the interoperability of the power grid operation has improved significantly, but due to its dependence on the communication system, it is extremely vulnerable to network attacks. Among them, the false data injection attack utilizes the loophole of bad data detection in the system and attacks the state estimation system, resulting in frequent occurrence of abnormal data in the system, which brings great harm to the power grid. In view of the fact that false data injection attacks are easy to avoid traditional bad data detection methods, this paper analyzes the different situations of false data injection attacks based on the characteristics of the power grid. Firstly, it proposes to apply the distortion index method to false data injection attack detection. Experiments prove that the detection results are good and can be complementary to traditional detection methods. Then, combined with the traditional normalized residual method, this paper proposes the improved distortion index method based on the distortion index, which is good at detecting abnormal data. The use of improved distortion index method to detect false data injection attacks can make up for the defect of the lack of universality of traditional detection methods, and meet the requirements of anomaly detection efficiency. Finally, based on the MATLAB power simulation test system, experimental simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness and universality of the proposed method for false data injection attack detection.
Design and Implementation of a Secure Physical Unclonable Function In FPGA. 2020 Second International Conference on Inventive Research in Computing Applications (ICIRCA). :1083–1089.
.
2020. A Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a digital Integrated Circuit made up of interconnected functional blocks, which can be programmed by the end-user to perform required logic functions. As FPGAs are re-programmable, partially re-configurable and have lowertime to market, FPGA has become a vital component in the field of electronics. FPGAs are undergoing many security issues as the adversaries are trying to make profits by replicating the original design, without any investment. The major security issues are cloning, counterfeiting, reverse engineering, Physical tampering, and insertion of malicious components, etc. So, there is a need for security of FPGAs. A Secret key must be embedded in an IC, to provide identification and authentication to it. Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) can provide these secret keys, by using the physical properties of the chip. These physical properties are not reproducible even by the manufacturer. Hence the responses produced by the PUF are unique for every individual chip. The method of generating unique binary signatures helps in cryptographic key generation, digital rights management, Intellectual Property (IP) protection, IC counterfeit prevention, and device authentication. The PUFs are very promising in signature generation in the field of hardware security. In this paper, the secret binary responses is generated with the help of a delay based Ring Oscillator PUF, which does not use a clock circuit in its architecture.
Dynamic Orchestration of Security Services at Fog Nodes for 5G IoT. ICC 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC). :1–6.
.
2020. Fog Computing is one of the edge computing paradigms that envisages being the proximate processing and storage infrastructure for a multitude of IoT appliances. With its dynamic deployability as a medium level cloud service, fog nodes are enabling heterogeneous service provisioning infrastructure that features scalability, interoperability, and adaptability. Out of the various 5G based services possible with the fog computing platforms, security services are imperative but minimally investigated direct live. Thus, in this research, we are focused on launching security services in a fog node with an architecture capable of provisioning on-demand service requests. As the fog nodes are constrained on resources, our intention is to integrate light-weight virtualization technology such as Docker for forming the service provisioning infrastructure. We managed to launch multiple security instances configured to be Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPSs) on the fog infrastructure emulated via a Raspberry Pi-4 device. This environment was tested with multiple network flows to validate its feasibility. In our proposed architecture, orchestration strategies performed by the security orchestrator were stated as guidelines for achieving pragmatic, dynamic orchestration with fog in IoT deployments. The results of this research guarantee the possibility of developing an ambient security service model that facilitates IoT devices with enhanced security.
Deep Learning-Based False Sensor Data Detection for Battery Energy Storage Systems. 2020 IEEE CyberPELS (CyberPELS). :1–6.
.
2020. Battery energy storage systems are facing risks of unreliable battery sensor data which might be caused by sensor faults in an embedded battery management system, communication failures, and even cyber-attacks. It is crucial to evaluate the trustworthiness of battery sensor data since inaccurate sensor data could lead to not only serious damages to battery energy storage systems, but also threaten the overall reliability of their applications (e.g., electric vehicles or power grids). This paper introduces a battery sensor data trust framework enabling detecting unreliable data using a deep learning algorithm. The proposed sensor data trust mechanism could potentially improve safety and reliability of the battery energy storage systems. The proposed deep learning-based battery sensor fault detection algorithm is validated by simulation studies using a convolutional neural network.
Dynamic Countermeasure Knowledge for Intrusion Response Systems. 2020 31st Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC). :1–6.
.
2020. Significant advancements in Intrusion Detection Systems has led to improved alerts. However, Intrusion Response Systems which aim to automatically respond to these alerts, is a research area which is not yet advanced enough to benefit from full automation. In Security Operations Centres, analysts can implement countermeasures using knowledge and past experience to adapt to new attacks. Attempts at automated Intrusion Response Systems fall short when a new attack occurs to which the system has no specific knowledge or effective countermeasure to apply, even leading to overkill countermeasures such as restarting services and blocking ports or IPs. In this paper, a countermeasure standard is proposed which enables countermeasure intelligence sharing, automated countermeasure adoption and execution by an Intrusion Response System. An attack scenario is created on an emulated network using the Common Open Research Emulator, where an insider attack attempts to exploit a buffer overflow on an Exim mail server. Experiments demonstrate that an Intrusion Response System with dynamic countermeasure knowledge can stop attacks that would otherwise succeed with a static predefined countermeasure approach.
