Vehicle ad-hoc network (VANET) is the main driving force to alleviate traffic congestion and accelerate the construction of intelligent transportation. However, the rapid growth of the number of vehicles makes the construction of the safety system of the vehicle network facing multiple tests. This paper proposes an identity-based aggregate signature scheme to protect the privacy of vehicle identity, receive messages in time and authenticate quickly in VANET. The scheme uses aggregate signature algorithm to aggregate the signatures of multiple users into one signature, and joins the idea of batch authentication to complete the authentication of multiple vehicular units, thereby improving the verification efficiency. In addition, the pseudoidentity of vehicles is used to achieve the purpose of vehicle anonymity and privacy protection. Finally, the secure storage of message signatures is effectively realized by using reliable cloud storage technology. Compared with similar schemes, this paper improves authentication efficiency while ensuring security, and has lower storage overhead.

UAANET (UAV Ad hoc Network) is defined as an autonomous system made of swarm of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and GCS (Ground Control Station). Compared to other types of MANET (Mobile Ad hoc network), UAANET have some unique features and bring several challenges. One of them is the design of routing protocol. It must be efficient for creating routes between nodes and dynamically adjusting to the rapidly changing topology. It must also be secure to protect the integrity of the network against malicious attackers. In this paper, we will present the architecture and the performance evaluation (based on both real-life experimental and emulation studies) of a secure routing protocol called SUAP (Secure UAV Ad hoc routing Protocol). SUAP ensures routing services between nodes to exchange real-time traffic and also guarantees message authentication and integrity to protect the network integrity. Additional security mechanisms were added to detect Wormhole attacks. Wormhole attacks represent a high level of risk for UAV ad hoc network and this is the reason why we choose to focus on this specific multi node attack. Through performance evaluation campaign, our results show that SUAP ensures the expected security services against different types of attacks while providing an acceptable quality of service for real-time data exchanges.

In this paper, an agent-based cross-layer secure service discovery scheme has been presented. Service discovery in MANET is a critical task and it presents numerous security challenges. These threats can compromise the availability, privacy and integrity of service discovery process and infrastructure. This paper highlights various security challenges prevalent to service discovery in MANET. Then, in order to address these security challenges, the paper proposes a cross-layer, agent based secure service discovery scheme for MANET based on deep neural network. The software agents will monitor the intrusive activities in the network based on an Intrusion Detection System (IDS). The service discovery operation is performed based on periodic dissemination of service, routing and security information. The QoS provisioning is achieved by encapsulating QoS information in the periodic advertisements done by service providers. The proposed approach has been implemented in JIST/ SWANS simulator. The results show that proposed approach provides improved security, scalability, latency, packet delivery ratio and service discovery success ratio, for various simulation scenarios.

The increasing demand and the use of mobile ad hoc network (MANET) in recent days have attracted the attention of researchers towards pursuing active research work largely related to security attacks in MANET. Gray hole attack is one of the most common security attacks observed in MANET. The paper focuses on gray hole attack analysis in Ad hoc on demand distance vector(AODV) routing protocol based MANET with reliability as a metric. Simulation is performed using ns-2.35 simulation software under varying number of network nodes and varying number of gray hole nodes. Results of simulation indicates that increasing the number of gray hole node in the MANET will decrease the reliability of MANET.

With the prevalent of smart devices and home automations, voice command has become a popular User Interface (UI) channel in the IoT environment. Although Voice Control System (VCS) has the advantages of great convenience, it is extremely vulnerable to the spoofing attack (e.g., replay attack, hidden/inaudible command attack) due to its broadcast nature. In this study, we present WiVo, a device-free voice liveness detection system based on the prevalent wireless signals generated by IoT devices without any additional devices or sensors carried by the users. The basic motivation of WiVo is to distinguish the authentic voice command from a spoofed one via its corresponding mouth motions, which can be captured and recognized by wireless signals. To achieve this goal, WiVo builds a theoretical model to characterize the correlation between wireless signal dynamics and the user's voice syllables. WiVo extracts the unique features from both voice and wireless signals, and then calculates the consistency between these different types of signals in order to determine whether the voice command is generated by the authentic user of VCS or an adversary. To evaluate the effectiveness of WiVo, we build a testbed based on Samsung SmartThings framework and include WiVo as a new application, which is expected to significantly enhance the security of the existing VCS. We have evaluated WiVo with 6 participants and different voice commands. Experimental evaluation results demonstrate that WiVo achieves the overall 99% detection rate with 1% false accept rate and has a low latency.

Han et al. proposed a hybrid authentication scheme for vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET). In Han et al.'s scheme, senders' identities will be exposed in the verification process. Therefore, in this work, we proposed a privacy-preserving hybrid authentication scheme based on pseudo-IDs and signcryption for VANET. The proposed scheme provides a secure authentication protocol for messages transmission between vehicles and RSUs. Comparing to existing VANET-based hybrid authentication scheme, our proposed scheme has enhancing privacy and higher efficiency.

With the continuous development of the vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), many challenges related to network security have come one after another, among which privacy issues are particularly prominent. To help each network user decide when and where to protect their privacy, we suggest creating a user-centric privacy computing system in VANET. A risk assessment function and a set of decision weights are proposed to simulate the driver's decision-making intent in the vehicle network. Besides, proposed information and privacy joint metrics are used as the key indicators for dynamic selection of Mix-zone. Finally, by considering three influencing factors: maximum road capacity, user-centric quantitative privacy and attacker information measurement, defined mixzone creation mechanism to achieve privacy protection in VANET.

In recent years, the area of Mobile Ad-hoc Net-work(MANET) has received considerable attention among the research community owing to the advantages in its networking features as well as solving the unsolved issues in it. One field which needs more security is the mobile ad hoc network. Mobile Ad-hoc Network is a temporary network composed of mobile nodes, connected by wireless links, without fixed infrastructure. Network security plays a crucial role in this MANET and the traditional way of protecting the networks through firewalls and encryption software is no longer effective and sufficient. In order to provide additional security to the MANET, intrusion detection mechanisms should be added. In this paper, selective acknowledgment is used for detecting malicious nodes in the Mobile ad-hoc network is proposed. In this paper we propose a novel mechanism called selective acknowledgment for solving problems that airse with Adaptive ACKnowledgment (AACK). This mechanism is an enhancement to the AACK scheme where its Packet delivery ration and detection overhead is reduced. NS2 is used to simulate and evaluate the proposed scheme and compare it against the AACK. The obtained results show that the selective acknowledgment scheme outperforms AACK in terms of network packet delivery ratio and routing overhead.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are a subset of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs). They are deployed to introduce the ability of inter-communication among vehicles in order to guarantee safety and provide services for people while driving. VANETs are exposed to many types of attacks like denial of service, spoofing, ID disclosure and Sybil attacks. In this paper, a novel lightweight approach for preventing Sybil attack in VANETs is proposed. The presented protocol scheme uses symmetric key encryption and authentication between Road Side Units (RSUs) and vehicles on the road so that no malicious vehicle could gain more than one identity inside the network. This protocol does not need managers for Road Side Units (RSUs) or Certification Authority (CA) and uses minimum amount of messages exchanged with RSU making the scheme efficient and effective.

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is vulnerable to many types of attacks. Thus, security has turned out to be an important factor to facilitate secured communication between mobile nodes in a wireless environment. In this paper we propose a new approach to provide reliable and secure data transmission in MANETs under possible blackhole attacks based on ad hoc on-demand multipath distance vector (AOMDV) protocol and homomorphic encryption scheme for security. The performance of the proposed scheme is stable but that of AOMDV is found to be degrading with the intrusion of malicious nodes in the network. Simulation results show the improvement of packet delivery ratio and network throughput in the presence of blackhole nodes in our proposed scheme.

Nowadays, Vehicular ad hoc network confronts many challenges in terms of security and privacy, due to the fact that data transmitted are diffused in an open access environment. However, highest of drivers want to maintain their information discreet and protected, and they do not want to share their confidential information. So, the private information of drivers who are distributed in this network must be protected against various threats that may damage their privacy. That is why, confidentiality, integrity and availability are the important security requirements in VANET. This paper focus on security threat in vehicle network especially on the availability of this network. Then we regard the rational attacker who decides to lead an attack based on its adversary's strategy to maximize its own attack interests. Our aim is to provide reliability and privacy of VANET system, by preventing attackers from violating and endangering the network. to ensure this objective, we adopt a tree structure called attack tree to model the attacker's potential attack strategies. Also, we join the countermeasures to the attack tree in order to build attack-defense tree for defending these attacks.

Friendly jamming is a physical layer security technique that utilizes extra available nodes to jam any eavesdroppers. This paper considers the use of additional available nodes as friendly jammers in order to improve the security performance of a route through a wireless area network. One of the unresolved technical challenges is the combining of security metrics with typical service quality metrics. In this context, this paper considers the problem of routing through a D2D network while jointly minimizing the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and connection outage probability (COP), using friendly jamming to improve the SOP of each link. The jamming powers are determined to place nulls at friendly receivers while maximizing the power to eavesdroppers. Then the route metrics are derived, and the problem is framed as a convex optimization problem. We also consider that not all network users equally value SOP and COP, and so introduce an auxiliary variable to tune the optimization between the two metrics.

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes that do not need to rely on a pre-existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. Securing MANETs is a serious concern as current research on MANETs continues to progress. Each node in a MANET acts as a router, forwarding data packets for other nodes and exchanging routing information between nodes. It is this intrinsic nature that introduces the serious security issues to routing protocols. A black hole attack is one of the well-known security threats for MANETs. A black hole is a security attack in which a malicious node absorbs all data packets by sending fake routing information and drops them without forwarding them. In order to defend against a black hole attack, in this paper we propose a new threshold-based black hole attack prevention method. To investigate the performance of the proposed method, we compared it with existing methods. Our simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods from the standpoints of black hole node detection rate, throughput, and packet delivery rate.

Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is one of the most important and unique network in wireless network which has brought maximum mobility and scalability. The most sensitive challenge that MANET faces is making the MANET energy efficient at the same time handling the security issues. In this paper we are going to discuss the best routing for maximum energy saving which is Load Balanced Energy Enhanced Clustered Bee Ad Hoc Routing (LBEE) along with secured PKI scheme. LBEE which is inspired from swarm intelligence and follows the bee colony paradigm has been found as the best energy efficient method for the MANETs. In this paper along with energy efficiency care has been taken for security of all the nodes of the network. The best suiting security for the protocol has been chosen as the four key security scheme.

This paper introduces a multi-factors security key generation mechanism for self-organising Internet of Things (IoT) network and nodes. The mechanism enables users to generate unique set of security keys to enhance IoT security while meeting various business needs. The multi-factor security keys presents an additional security layer to existing security standards and practices currently being adopted by the IoT community. The proposed security key generation mechanism enables user to define and choose any physical and logical parameters he/she prefers, in generating a set of security keys to be encrypted and distributed to registered IoT nodes. IoT applications and services will only be activated after verifying that all security keys are present. Multiple levels of authorisation for different user groups can be easily created through the mix and match of the generated multi-factors security keys. A use case, covering indoor and outdoor field tests was conducted. The results of the tests showed that the mechanism is easily adaptable to meet diverse multivendor IoT devices and is scalable for various applications.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are taking more attention from both the academia and the automotive industry due to a rapid development of wireless communication technologies. And with this development, vehicles called connected cars are increasingly being equipped with more sensors, processors, storages, and communication devices as they start to provide both infotainment and safety services through V2X communication. Such increase of vehicles is also related to the rise of security attacks and potential security threats. In a vehicular environment, security is one of the most important issues and it must be addressed before VANETs can be widely deployed. Conventional VANETs have some unique characteristics such as high mobility, dynamic topology, and a short connection time. Since an attacker can launch any unexpected attacks, it is difficult to predict these attacks in advance. To handle this problem, we propose collaborative security attack detection mechanism in a software-defined vehicular networks that uses multi-class support vector machine (SVM) to detect various types of attacks dynamically. We compare our security mechanism to existing distributed approach and present simulation results. The results demonstrate that the proposed security mechanism can effectively identify the types of attacks and achieve a good performance regarding high precision, recall, and accuracy.

With the fast development of autonomous driving and vehicular communication technologies, intelligent transportation systems that are based on VANET (Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network) have shown great promise. For instance, through V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) and V2I (Vehicle-to-Infrastructure) communication, intelligent intersections allow more fine-grained control of vehicle crossings and significantly enhance traffic efficiency. However, the performance and safety of these VANET-based systems could be seriously impaired by communication delays and packet losses, which may be caused by network congestion or by malicious attacks that target communication timing behavior. In this paper, we quantitatively model and analyze some of the timing and security issues in transportation networks with VANET-based intelligent intersections. In particular, we demonstrate how communication delays may affect the performance and safety of a single intersection and of multiple interconnected intersections, and present our delay-tolerant intersection management protocols. We also discuss the issues of such protocols when the vehicles are non-cooperative and how they may be addressed with game theory.

This paper studies physical layer security in a wireless ad hoc network with numerous legitimate transmitter-receiver pairs and passive eavesdroppers. A hybrid full-/half-duplex receiver deployment strategy is proposed to secure legitimate transmissions, by letting a fraction of legitimate receivers work in the full-duplex (FD) mode sending jamming signals to confuse eavesdroppers upon their own information receptions, and other receivers work in the half-duplex mode just receiving desired signals. This paper aims to properly choose the fraction of the FD receivers to enhance network security. Tractable expressions for the connection outage probability and the secrecy outage probability of a typical legitimate link are first derived, based on which the network-wide secrecy throughput is maximized. Some insights into the optimal fraction are further developed. It is concluded that the fraction of the FD receivers triggers a non-trivial trade-off between reliability and secrecy, and the optimal fraction significantly improves the network security performance.

Fast-changing topologies and uncoordinated transmissions are two critical challenges of implementing data security in vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). We propose a new protocol, where transmitters adaptively switch between backing off retransmissions and changing keys to improve success rate. A new 3-dimensional (3-D) Markov model, which can analyze the proposed protocol with symmetric or asymmetric keys in terms of data security and connectivity, is developed. Analytical results, validated by simulations, show that the proposed protocol achieves substantially improved resistance against collusion attacks.

Vehicular ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) have been promoted as a key technology that can provide a wide variety of services such as traffic management, passenger safety, as well as travel convenience and comfort. VANETs are now proposed to be part of the upcoming Fifth Generation (5G) technology, integrated with Software Defined Networking (SDN), as key enabler of 5G. The technology of fog computing in 5G turned out to be an adequate solution for faster processing in delay sensitive application, such as VANETs, being a hybrid solution between fully centralized and fully distributed networks. In this paper, we propose a three-way integration between VANETs, SDN, and 5G for a resilient VANET security design approach, which strikes a good balance between network, mobility, performance and security features. We show how such an approach can secure VANETs from different types of attacks such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) targeting either the controllers or the vehicles in the network, and how to trace back the source of the attack. Our evaluation shows the capability of the proposed system to enforce different levels of real-time user-defined security, while maintaining low overhead and minimal configuration.

Internet of Things (IoT) depicts an intelligent future, where any IoT-based devices having a sensorial and computing capabilities to interact with each other. Recently, we are living in the area of internet and rapidly moving towards a smart planet where devices are capable to be connected to each other. Cooperative ad-hoc vehicle systems are the main driving force for the actualization of IoT-based concept. Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is considered as a promising platform for the intelligent wireless communication system. This paper presents and analyzes the tradeoffs between the security and reliability of the IoT-based VANET system in the presence of eavesdropping attacks using smart vehicle relays based on opportunistic relay selection (ORS) scheme. Then, the optimization of the distance between the source (S), destination (D), and Eavesdropper (E) is illustrated in details, showing the effect of this parameter on the IoT-based network. In order to improve the SRT, we quantify the attainable SRT improvement with variable distances between IoT-based nodes. It is shown that given the maximum tolerable Intercept Probability (IP), the Outage Probability (OP) of our proposed model approaches zero for Ge → ∞, where Ge is distance ratio between S — E via the vehicle relay (R).
