Phishing is an act of technology-based deception that targets individuals to obtain information. To minimize the number of phishing attacks, factors that influence the ability to identify phishing attempts must be examined. The present study aimed to determine how individual differences relate to performance on a phishing task. Undergraduate students completed a questionnaire designed to assess impulsivity, trust, personality characteristics, and Internet/security habits. Participants performed an email task where they had to discriminate between legitimate emails and phishing attempts. Researchers assessed performance in terms of correctly identifying all email types (overall accuracy) as well as accuracy in identifying phishing emails (phishing accuracy). Results indicated that overall and phishing accuracy each possessed unique trust, personality, and impulsivity predictors, but shared one significant behavioral predictor. These results present distinct predictors of phishing susceptibility that should be incorporated in the development of anti-phishing technology and training.

The 6G wireless communication networks are being studied to build a powerful networking system with global coverage, enhanced spectral/energy/cost efficiency, better intelligent level and security. This paper presents a four-in-one networking paradigm named 3CL-Net that would broaden and strengthen the capabilities of current networking by introducing ubiquitous computing, caching, and intelligence over the communication connection to build 6G-required capabilities. To evaluate the practicability of 3CL-Net, this paper designs a platform based on the 3CL-Net architecture. The platform adopts leader-followers structure that could support all functions of 3CL-Net, but separate missions of 3CL-Net into two parts. Moreover, this paper has implemented part of functions as a prototype, on which some experiments are carried out. The results demonstrate that 3CL-Net is potential to be a practical and effective network paradigm to meet future requirements, meanwhile, 3CL-Net could motivate designs of related platforms as well.

Xu, Zheng.  2022.  The application of white-box encryption algorithms for distributed devices on the Internet of Things. 2022 3rd International Conference on Computer Vision, Image and Deep Learning & International Conference on Computer Engineering and Applications (CVIDL & ICCEA). :298–301.
With the rapid development of the Internet of Things and the exploration of its application scenarios, embedded devices are deployed in various environments to collect information and data. In such environments, the security of embedded devices cannot be guaranteed and are vulnerable to various attacks, even device capture attacks. When embedded devices are attacked, the attacker can obtain the information transmitted by the channel during the encryption process and the internal operation of the encryption. In this paper, we analyze various existing white-box schemes and show whether they are suitable for application in IoT. We propose an application of WBEAs for distributed devices in IoT scenarios and conduct experiments on several devices in IoT scenarios.

Chen, Yang, Luo, Xiaonan, Xu, Songhua, Chen, Ruiai.  2022.  CaptchaGG: A linear graphical CAPTCHA recognition model based on CNN and RNN. 2022 9th International Conference on Digital Home (ICDH). :175–180.
This paper presents CaptchaGG, a model for recognizing linear graphical CAPTCHAs. As in the previous society, CAPTCHA is becoming more and more complex, but in some scenarios, complex CAPTCHA is not needed, and usually, linear graphical CAPTCHA can meet the corresponding functional scenarios, such as message boards of websites and registration of accounts with low security. The scheme is based on convolutional neural networks for feature extraction of CAPTCHAs, recurrent neural forests A neural network that is too complex will lead to problems such as difficulty in training and gradient disappearance, and too simple will lead to underfitting of the model. For the single problem of linear graphical CAPTCHA recognition, the model which has a simple architecture, extracting features by convolutional neural network, sequence modeling by recurrent neural network, and finally classification and recognition, can achieve an accuracy of 96% or more recognition at a lower complexity.

Xu, Zhifan, Baykal-Gürsoy, Melike.  2022.  Cost-Efficient Network Protection Games Against Uncertain Types of Cyber-Attackers. 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Technologies for Homeland Security (HST). :1–7.
This paper considers network protection games for a heterogeneous network system with N nodes against cyber-attackers of two different types of intentions. The first type tries to maximize damage based on the value of each net-worked node, while the second type only aims at successful infiltration. A defender, by applying defensive resources to networked nodes, can decrease those nodes' vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, the defender needs to balance the cost of using defensive resources and potential security benefits. Existing literature shows that, in a Nash equilibrium, the defender should adopt different resource allocation strategies against different types of attackers. However, it could be difficult for the defender to know the type of incoming cyber-attackers. A Bayesian game is investigated considering the case that the defender is uncertain about the attacker's type. We demonstrate that the Bayesian equilibrium defensive resource allocation strategy is a mixture of the Nash equilibrium strategies from the games against the two types of attackers separately.

Xiao, Weidong, Zhang, Xu, Wang, Dongbin.  2022.  Cross-Security Domain Dynamic Orchestration Algorithm of Network Security Functions. 2022 7th IEEE International Conference on Data Science in Cyberspace (DSC). :413—419.
To prevent all sorts of attacks, the technology of security service function chains (SFC) is proposed in recent years, it becomes an attractive research highlights. Dynamic orchestration algorithm can create SFC according to the resource usage of network security functions. The current research on creating SFC focuses on a single domain. However in reality the large and complex networks are divided into security domains according to different security levels and managed separately. Therefore, we propose a cross-security domain dynamic orchestration algorithm to create SFC for network security functions based on ant colony algorithm(ACO) and consider load balancing, shortest path and minimum delay as optimization objectives. We establish a network security architecture based on the proposed algorithm, which is suitable for the industrial vertical scenarios, solves the deployment problem of the dynamic orchestration algorithm. Simulation results verify that our algorithm achieves the goal of creating SFC across security domains and demonstrate its performance in creating service function chains to resolve abnormal traffic flows.

Debnath, Jayanta K., Xie, Derock.  2022.  CVSS-based Vulnerability and Risk Assessment for High Performance Computing Networks. 2022 IEEE International Systems Conference (SysCon). :1–8.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) is intended to capture the key characteristics of a vulnerability and correspondingly produce a numerical score to indicate the severity. Important efforts are conducted for building a CVSS stochastic model in order to provide a high-level risk assessment to better support cybersecurity decision-making. However, these efforts consider nothing regarding HPC (High-Performance Computing) networks using a Science Demilitary Zone (DMZ) architecture that has special design principles to facilitate data transition, analysis, and store through in a broadband backbone. In this paper, an HPCvul (CVSS-based vulnerability and risk assessment) approach is proposed for HPC networks in order to provide an understanding of the ongoing awareness of the HPC security situation under a dynamic cybersecurity environment. For such a purpose, HPCvul advocates the standardization of the collected security-related data from the network to achieve data portability. HPCvul adopts an attack graph to model the likelihood of successful exploitation of a vulnerability. It is able to merge multiple attack graphs from different HPC subnets to yield a full picture of a large HPC network. Substantial results are presented in this work to demonstrate HPCvul design and its performance.

Su, Xiangjing, Zhu, Zheng, Xiao, Shiqu, Fu, Yang, Wu, Yi.  2022.  Deep Neural Network Based Efficient Data Fusion Model for False Data Detection in Power System. 2022 IEEE 6th Conference on Energy Internet and Energy System Integration (EI2). :1462—1466.
Cyberattack on power system brings new challenges on the development of modern power system. Hackers may implement false data injection attack (FDIA) to cause unstable operating conditions of the power system. However, data from different power internet of things usually contains a lot of redundancy, making it difficult for current efficient discriminant model to precisely identify FDIA. To address this problem, we propose a deep learning network-based data fusion model to handle features from measurement data in power system. Proposed model includes a data enrichment module and a data fusion module. We firstly employ feature engineering technique to enrich features from power system operation in time dimension. Subsequently, a long short-term memory based autoencoder (LSTM-AE) is designed to efficiently avoid feature space explosion problem during data enriching process. Extensive experiments are performed on several classical attack detection models over the load data set from IEEE 14-bus system and simulation results demonstrate that fused data from proposed model shows higher detection accuracy with respect to the raw data.

The smooth operation of metering equipment is inseparable from the monitoring and analysis of equipment alarm events by automated metering systems. With the generation of big data in power metering and the increasing demand for information security of metering systems in the power industry, how to use big data and protect data security at the same time has become a hot research field. In this paper, we propose a hybrid expert model based on federated learning to deal with the problem of alarm information analysis and identification. The hybrid expert system can divide the metering warning problem into multiple sub-problems for processing, which greatly improves the recognition and prediction accuracy. The experimental results show that our model has high accuracy in judging and identifying equipment faults.

The technology advance and convergence of cyber physical systems, smart sensors, short-range wireless communications, cloud computing, and smartphone apps have driven the proliferation of Internet of things (IoT) devices in smart homes and smart industry. In light of the high heterogeneity of IoT system, the prevalence of system vulnerabilities in IoT devices and applications, and the broad attack surface across the entire IoT protocol stack, a fundamental and urgent research problem of IoT security is how to effectively collect, analyze, extract, model, and visualize the massive network traffic of IoT devices for understanding what is happening to IoT devices. Towards this end, this paper develops and demonstrates an end-to-end system with three key components, i.e., the IoT network traffic monitoring system via programmable home routers, the backend IoT traffic behavior analysis system in the cloud, and the frontend IoT visualization system via smartphone apps, for monitoring, analyzing and virtualizing network traffic behavior of heterogeneous IoT devices in smart homes. The main contributions of this demonstration paper is to present a novel system with an end-to-end process of collecting, analyzing and visualizing IoT network traffic in smart homes.

Feng, Yu, Ma, Benteng, Zhang, Jing, Zhao, Shanshan, Xia, Yong, Tao, Dacheng.  2022.  FIBA: Frequency-Injection based Backdoor Attack in Medical Image Analysis. 2022 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). :20844—20853.
In recent years, the security of AI systems has drawn increasing research attention, especially in the medical imaging realm. To develop a secure medical image analysis (MIA) system, it is a must to study possible backdoor attacks (BAs), which can embed hidden malicious behaviors into the system. However, designing a unified BA method that can be applied to various MIA systems is challenging due to the diversity of imaging modalities (e.g., X-Ray, CT, and MRI) and analysis tasks (e.g., classification, detection, and segmentation). Most existing BA methods are designed to attack natural image classification models, which apply spatial triggers to training images and inevitably corrupt the semantics of poisoned pixels, leading to the failures of attacking dense prediction models. To address this issue, we propose a novel Frequency-Injection based Backdoor Attack method (FIBA) that is capable of delivering attacks in various MIA tasks. Specifically, FIBA leverages a trigger function in the frequency domain that can inject the low-frequency information of a trigger image into the poisoned image by linearly combining the spectral amplitude of both images. Since it preserves the semantics of the poisoned image pixels, FIBA can perform attacks on both classification and dense prediction models. Experiments on three benchmarks in MIA (i.e., ISIC-2019 [4] for skin lesion classification, KiTS-19 [17] for kidney tumor segmentation, and EAD-2019 [1] for endoscopic artifact detection), validate the effectiveness of FIBA and its superiority over stateof-the-art methods in attacking MIA models and bypassing backdoor defense. Source code will be available at code.

With the development of embedded systems towards networking and intelligence, the security threats they face are becoming more difficult to prevent. Existing protection methods make it difficult to monitor jump instructions and their target addresses for tampering by attackers at the low hardware implementation overhead and performance overhead. In this paper, a hardware-assisted security monitoring module is designed to monitor the integrity of jump instructions and jump addresses when executing programs. The proposed method has been implemented on the Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA platform. Experiments show that this method is able to effectively monitor tampering attacks on jump instructions as well as target addresses while the embedded system is executing programs.

Xu, Bo, Zhang, Xiaona, Cao, Heyang, Li, Yu, Wang, Li-Ping.  2022.  HERMS: A Hierarchical Electronic Records Management System Based on Blockchain with Distributed Key Generation. 2022 IEEE International Conference on Services Computing (SCC). :295–304.
In a traditional electronic records management system (ERMS), the legitimacy of the participants’ identities is verified by Certificate Authority (CA) certifications. The authentication process is complicated and takes up lots of memory. To overcome this problem, we construct a hierarchical electronic records management system by using a Hierarchical Identity-Based Cryptosystem (HIBC) to replace CA. However, there exist the threats of malicious behavior from a private key generator (PKG) or an entity in the upper layer because the private keys are generated by a PKG or upper entity in HIBC. Thus, we adopt distributed key generation protocols in HIBC to avoid the threats. Finally, we use blockchain technology in our system to achieve decentralized management.

Xiang, Peng, Peng, ChengWei, Li, Qingshan.  2022.  Hierarchical Association Features Learning for Network Traffic Recognition. 2022 International Conference on Information Processing and Network Provisioning (ICIPNP). :129—133.
With the development of network technology, identifying specific traffic has become important in network monitoring and security. However, designing feature sets that can accurately describe network traffic is still an urgent problem. Most of existing researches cannot realize effectively the identification of targets, and don't perform well in the complex and dynamic network environment. Aiming at these problems, we propose a novel method in this paper, which learns correlation features of network traffic based on the hierarchical structure. Firstly, the method learns the spatial-temporal features using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and the bidirectional long short-term memory networks (Bi-LSTMs), then builds network topology to capture dependency characteristics between sessions and learns the context-related features through the graph attention networks (GATs). Finally, the network traffic session is classified using a fully connected network. The experimental results show that our method can effectively improve the detection ability and achieve a better classification performance overall.
