Krishnan, Ashwin A, Rajendran, Satish Kumar, Sunil Kumar, T K.  2022.  Improved PKI Certificate Lifecycle Management With Centralized Device Management For Industrial IoT. 2022 IEEE International Conference on Public Key Infrastructure and its Applications (PKIA). :1–5.
The present industrial scenario requires frequent transfer of data between remote servers and on premise devices and hence the risk of attacks on these data cannot be overlooked. Such security risk is even aggravated in case of sensitive information being compromised due to inefficient security implementations. Various forms of security implementations are being discussed and experimented for the same. With the introduction of devices with better processing capabilities, Public Key Infrastructure is a very popular technique being widely implemented, wherein symmetric and asymmetric key based encryptions are used inorder to secure the data being transferred and it has proven to be an effective technique. The PKI however suffers certain drawbacks and it is evident from the attacks. A system specifically designed for scenarios such as a factory having a centralised device management system requiring multiple devices to communicate and upload data safely to server is being put forward in this paper.

Cheng, Leixiao, Meng, Fei.  2022.  An Improvement on “CryptCloud$^\textrm+\$$: Secure and Expressive Data Access Control for Cloud Storage”. IEEE Transactions on Services Computing. :1–2.
Recently, Ning et al. proposed the “CryptCloud$^\textrm+\$$: Secure and Expressive Data Access Control for Cloud Storage” in IEEE Transaction on Services Computing. This work provided two versatile ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) schemes to achieve flexible access control on encrypted data, namely ATER-CP-ABE and ATIR-CP-ABE, both of which have attractive advantages, such as white-box malicious user traceability, semi-honest authority accountability, public auditing and user revocation. However, we find a bug of access control in both schemes, i.e., a non-revoked user with attribute set \$S\$ can decrypt the ciphertext \$ct\$ encrypted under any access policy \$(A,\textbackslashrho )\$, regardless of whether \$S\$ satisfies \$(A,\textbackslashrho )\$ or not. This paper carefully analyzes the bug, and makes an improvement on Ning's pioneering work, so as to fix it.

Existing anomaly detection models show success in detecting abnormal images with generative adversarial networks on the insufficient annotation of anomalous samples. However, existing models cannot accurately identify the anomaly samples which are close to the normal samples. We assume that the main reason is that these methods ignore the diversity of patterns in normal samples. To alleviate the above issue, this paper proposes a novel anomaly detection framework based on generative adversarial network, called ADe-GAN. More concretely, we construct a self-supervised learning task to fully explore the pattern information and latent representations of input images. In model inferring stage, we design a new abnormality score approach by jointly considering the pattern information and reconstruction errors to improve the performance of anomaly detection. Extensive experiments show that the ADe-GAN outperforms the state-of-the-art methods over several real-world datasets.

Shams, Sulthana, Leith, Douglas J..  2022.  Improving Resistance of Matrix Factorization Recommenders To Data Poisoning Attacks. 2022 Cyber Research Conference - Ireland (Cyber-RCI). :1–4.
In this work, we conduct a systematic study on data poisoning attacks to Matrix Factorisation (MF) based Recommender Systems (RS) where a determined attacker injects fake users with false user-item feedback, with an objective to promote a target item by increasing its rating. We explore the capability of a MF based approach to reduce the impact of attack on targeted item in the system. We develop and evaluate multiple techniques to update the user and item feature matrices when incorporating new ratings. We also study the effectiveness of attack under increasing filler items and choice of target item. Our experimental results based on two real-world datasets show that the observations from the study could be used to design a more robust MF based RS.

Robustness verification of neural networks (NNs) is a challenging and significant problem, which draws great attention in recent years. Existing researches have shown that bound propagation is a scalable and effective method for robustness verification, and it can be implemented on GPUs and TPUs to get parallelized. However, the bound propagation methods naturally produce weak bound due to linear relaxations on the neurons, which may cause failure in verification. Although tightening techniques for simple ReLU networks have been explored, they are not applicable for NNs with general activation functions such as Sigmoid and Tanh. Improving robustness verification on these NNs is still challenging. In this paper, we propose a Branch-and-Bound (BaB) style method to address this problem. The proposed BaB procedure improves the weak bound by splitting the input domain of neurons into sub-domains and solving the corresponding sub-problems. We propose a generic heuristic function to determine the priority of neuron splitting by scoring the relaxation and impact of neurons. Moreover, we combine bound optimization with the BaB procedure to improve the weak bound. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method gains up to 35% improvement compared to the state-of-art CROWN method on Sigmoid and Tanh networks.

Yee, George O. M..  2022.  Improving the Derivation of Sound Security Metrics. 2022 IEEE 46th Annual Computers, Software, and Applications Conference (COMPSAC). :1804—1809.
We continue to tackle the problem of poorly defined security metrics by building on and improving our previous work on designing sound security metrics. We reformulate the previous method into a set of conditions that are clearer and more widely applicable for deriving sound security metrics. We also modify and enhance some concepts that led to an unforeseen weakness in the previous method that was subsequently found by users, thereby eliminating this weakness from the conditions. We present examples showing how the conditions can be used to obtain sound security metrics. To demonstrate the conditions' versatility, we apply them to show that an aggregate security metric made up of sound security metrics is also sound. This is useful where the use of an aggregate measure may be preferred, to more easily understand the security of a system.

From an information-theoretic standpoint, the intrusion detection process can be examined. Given the IDS output(alarm data), we should have less uncertainty regarding the input (event data). We propose the Capability of Intrusion Detection (CID) measure, which is simply the ratio of mutual information between IDS input and output, and the input of entropy. CID has the desirable properties of (1) naturally accounting for all important aspects of detection capability, such as true positive rate, false positive rate, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and base rate, (2) objectively providing an intrinsic measure of intrusion detection capability, and (3) being sensitive to IDS operation parameters. When finetuning an IDS, we believe that CID is the best performance metric to use. In terms of the IDS’ inherent ability to classify input data, the so obtained operation point is the best that it can achieve.

Akshara Vemuri, Sai, Krishna Chaitanya, Gogineni.  2022.  Insider Attack Detection and Prevention using Server Authentication using Elgamal Encryption. 2022 International Conference on Inventive Computation Technologies (ICICT). :967—972.
Web services are growing demand with fundamental advancements and have given more space to researchers for improving security of all real world applications. Accessing and get authenticated in many applications on web services, user discloses their password and other privacy data to the server for authentication purposes. These shared information should be maintained by the server with high security, otherwise it can be used for illegal purposes for any authentication breach. Protecting the applications from various attacks is more important. Comparing the security threats, insider attacks are most challenging to identify due to the fact that they use the authentication of legitimate users and their privileges to access the application and may cause serious threat to the application. Insider attacks has been studied in previous researchers with different security measures, however there is no much strong work proposed. Various security protocols were proposed for defending insider attackers. The proposed work focused on insider attack protection through Elgamal cryptography technique. The proposed work is much effective on insider attacks and also defends against various attacks. The proposed protocol is better than existing works. The key computation cost and communication cost is relatively low in this proposed work. The proposed work authenticates the application by parallel process of two way authentication mechanism through Elgamal algorithm.
Yoon, Wonseok, Chang, Hangbae.  2022.  Insider Threat Data Expansion Research using Hyperledger Fabric. 2022 International Conference on Platform Technology and Service (PlatCon). :25—28.
This paper deals with how to implement a system that extends insider threat behavior data using private blockchain technology to overcome the limitations of insider threat datasets. Currently, insider threat data is completely undetectable in existing datasets for new methods of insider threat due to the lack of insider threat scenarios and abstracted event behavior. Also, depending on the size of the company, it was difficult to secure a sample of data with the limit of a small number of leaks among many general users in other organizations. In this study, we consider insiders who pose a threat to all businesses as public enemies. In addition, we proposed a system that can use a private blockchain to expand insider threat behavior data between network participants in real-time to ensure reliability and transparency.

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are complex systems of computational, physical, and human components integrated to achieve some function over one or more networks. The use of distributed simulation, or co-simulation, is one method often used to analyze the behavior and properties of these systems. High-Level Architecture (HLA) is an IEEE co-simulation standard that supports the development and orchestration of distributed simulations. However, a simple HLA federation constructed with the component simulations (i.e., federates) does not satisfy several requirements that arise in real-world use cases such as the shared use of limited physical and computational resources, the need to selectively hide information from participating federates, the creation of reusable federates and federations for supporting configurable shared services, achieving performant distributed simulations, organizing federations across different model types or application concerns, and coordinating federations across organizations with different information technology policies. This paper describes these core requirements that necessitate the use of multiple HLA federations and presents various mechanisms for constructing such integrated HLA federations. An example use case is implemented using a model-based rapid simulation integration framework called the Universal CPS Environment for Federation (UCEF) to illustrate these requirements and demonstrate techniques for integrating multiple HLA federations.

Feng, Li, Bo, Ye.  2022.  Intelligent fault diagnosis technology of power transformer based on Artificial Intelligence. 2022 IEEE 6th Information Technology and Mechatronics Engineering Conference (ITOEC). 6:1968—1971.
Transformer is the key equipment of power system, and its stable operation is very important to the security of power system In practical application, with the progress of technology, the performance of transformer becomes more and more important, but faults also occur from time to time in practical application, and the traditional manual fault diagnosis needs to consume a lot of time and energy. At present, the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology provides a new research direction for timely and accurate detection and treatment of transformer faults. In this paper, a method of transformer fault diagnosis using artificial neural network is proposed. The neural network algorithm is used for off-line learning and training of the operation state data of normal and fault states. By adjusting the relationship between neuron nodes, the mapping relationship between fault characteristics and fault location is established by using network layer learning, Finally, the reasoning process from fault feature to fault location is realized to realize intelligent fault diagnosis.

The proliferation of linked devices in decisive infrastructure fields including health care and the electric grid is transforming public perceptions of critical infrastructure. As the world grows more mobile and connected, as well as as the Internet of Things (IoT) expands, the growing interconnectivity of new critical sectors is being fuelled. Interruptions in any of these areas can have ramifications across numerous sectors and potentially the world. Crucial industries are critical to contemporary civilization. In today's hyper-connected world, critical infrastructure is more vulnerable than ever to cyber assaults, whether they are state-sponsored, carried out by criminal organizations, or carried out by individuals. In a world where more and more gadgets are interconnected, hackers have more and more entry points via which they may damage critical infrastructure. Significant modifications to an organization's main technological systems have created a new threat surface. The study's goal is to raise awareness about the challenges of protecting digital infrastructure in the future while it is still in development. Fog architecture is designed based on functionality once the infrastructure that creates large data has been established. There's also an in-depth look of fog-enabled IoT network security requirements. The next section examines the security issues connected with fog computing, as well as the privacy and trust issues raised by fog-enabled Internet of Things (IoT). Block chain is also examined to see how it may help address IoT security problems, as well as the complimentary interrelationships between block-chain and fog computing. Additionally, Formalizes big data security goal and scope, develops taxonomy for identifying risks to fog-based Internet of Things systems, compares current development contributions to security service standards, and proposes interesting study areas for future studies, all within this framework

Shenoy, Nirmala, Chandraiah, Shreyas Madapura, Willis, Peter.  2022.  Internet Routing with Auto-Assigned Addresses. 2022 32nd International Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (ITNAC). :70–75.
Key challenges faced in the Internet today can be enumerated as follows: (1) complex route discovery mechanisms (2) latency and instability during link or device failure recovery (3) inadequacy in extending routing and addressing to limited domains, (4) complex interworking of multiple routing protocols at border routers. Routing table sizes increase with increasing number of networks indicating a scalability issue. One approach to address this spiraling complexity and performance challenges is to start fresh and re-think Internet routing and addressing. The Expedited Internet Bypass protocol (EIBP) is such a clean slate approach. In the interim, EIBP works in parallel with IP and has no dependency on layer 3 protocols. We demonstrated EIBP for routing and forwarding in an Autonomous system (AS) in our earlier work. In this article, we demonstrate EIBP for inter-AS routing. We compare EIBP's inter-AS operations and performance to Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) deployed in an intra-AS, inter-AS communications scenario with two AS.

Even as Internet of Things (IoT) network security grows, concerns about the security of IoT devices have arisen. Although a few companies produce IP-connected gadgets for such ranging from small office, their security policies and implementations are often weak. They also require firmware updates or revisions to boost security and reduce vulnerabilities in equipment. A brownfield advance is necessary to verify systems where these helpless devices are present: putting in place basic security mechanisms within the system to render the system powerless possibly. Gadgets should cohabit without threatening their security in the same device. IoT network security has evolved into a platform that can segregate a large number of IoT devices, allowing law enforcement to compel the communication of defenseless devices in order to reduce the damage done by its unlawful transaction. IoT network security appears to be doable in well-known gadget types and can be deployed with minimum transparency.

Frame deletion forensics has been a major area of video forensics in recent years. The detection effect of current deep neural network-based methods outperforms previous traditional detection methods. Recently, researchers have used residual features as input to the network to detect frame deletion and have achieved promising results. We propose an IReF (Improved Residual Feature) by analyzing the effect of residual features on frame deletion traces. IReF preserves the main motion features and edge information by denoising and enhancing the residual features, making it easier for the network to identify the tampered features. And the sparse noise reduction reduces the storage requirement. Experiments show that under the 2D convolutional neural network, the accuracy of IReF compared with residual features is increased by 3.81 %, and the storage space requirement is reduced by 78%. In the 3D convolutional neural network with video clips as feature input, the accuracy of IReF features is increased by 5.63%, and the inference efficiency is increased by 18%.

In many scenarios, Internet connectivity may not be available. In such situations, device-to-device (D2D) communication may be utilized to establish a peer-to-peer (P2P) network among mobile users in the vicinity. However, this raises a fundamental question as is how to ensure secure communication in such an infrastructure-less network. In this paper, we present an approach that enables connectivity between mobile devices in the vicinity and supports secure communication between users in Internet-isolated locations. Specifically, the proposed solution uses Wi-Fi Aware for establishing a P2P network and the mTLS (mutual Transport Layer Security) protocol to provide mutually authenticated and encrypted message transfer. Besides, a novel decentralized peer authentication (DPA) scheme compatible with Wi-Fi Aware and TLS is proposed, which enables peers to verify other peers to join the network. A proof-of-concept instant messaging application has been developed to test the proposed DPA scheme and to evaluate the performance of the proposed overall approach. Experimental results, which validate the proposed solution, are presented with findings and limitations discussed.

Keystroke dynamics is one solution to enhance the security of password authentication without adding any disruptive handling for users. Industries are looking for more security without impacting too much user experience. Considered as a friction-less solution, keystroke dynamics is a powerful solution to increase trust during user authentication without adding charge to the user. In this paper, we address the problem of user authentication considering the keystroke dynamics modality. We proposed a new approach based on the conversion of behavioral biometrics data (time series) into a 3D image. This transformation process keeps all the characteristics of the behavioral signal. The time series do not receive any filtering operation with this transformation and the method is bijective. This transformation allows us to train images based on convolutional neural networks. We evaluate the performance of the authentication system in terms of Equal Error Rate (EER) on a significant dataset and we show the efficiency of the proposed approach on a multi-instance system.

In this paper, we established a unified deep learning-based spam filtering method. The proposed method uses the message byte-histograms as a unified representation for all message types (text, images, or any other format). A deep convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to extract high-level features from this representation. A fully connected neural network is used to perform the classification using the extracted CNN features. We validate our method using several open-source text-based and image-based spam datasets. We obtained an accuracy higher than 94% on all datasets.
