Xi, W., Suo, S., Cai, T., Jian, G., Yao, H., Fan, L..  2019.  A Design and Implementation Method of IPSec Security Chip for Power Distribution Network System Based on National Cryptographic Algorithms. 2019 IEEE 3rd Information Technology, Networking, Electronic and Automation Control Conference (ITNEC). :2307–2310.

The target of security protection of the power distribution automation system (the distribution system for short) is to ensure the security of communication between the distribution terminal (terminal for short) and the distribution master station (master system for short). The encryption and authentication gateway (VPN gateway for short) for distribution system enhances the network layer communication security between the terminal and the VPN gateway. The distribution application layer encryption authentication device (master cipher machine for short) ensures the confidentiality and integrity of data transmission in application layer, and realizes the identity authentication between the master station and the terminal. All these measures are used to prevent malicious damage and attack to the master system by forging terminal identity, replay attack and other illegal operations, in order to prevent the resulting distribution network system accidents. Based on the security protection scheme of the power distribution automation system, this paper carries out the development of multi-chip encapsulation, develops IPSec Protocols software within the security chip, and realizes dual encryption and authentication function in IP layer and application layer supporting the national cryptographic algorithm.

Rashid, Rasber Dh., Majeed, Taban F..  2019.  Edge Based Image Steganography: Problems and Solution. 2019 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and Their Applications (ICCSPA). :1–5.

Steganography means hiding secrete message in cover object in a way that no suspicious from the attackers, the most popular steganography schemes is image steganography. A very common questions that asked in the field are: 1- what is the embedding scheme used?, 2- where is (location) the secrete messages are embedded?, and 3- how the sender will tell the receiver about the locations of the secrete message?. Here in this paper we are deal with and aimed to answer questions number 2 and 3. We used the popular scheme in image steganography which is least significant bits for embedding in edges positions in color images. After we separate the color images into its components Red, Green, and Blue, then we used one of the components as an index to find the edges, while other one or two components used for embedding purpose. Using this technique we will guarantee the same number and positions of edges before and after embedding scheme, therefore we are guaranteed extracting the secrete message as it's without any loss of secrete messages bits.

Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS) attacks have become most important network security threat as the number of devices are connected to internet increases exponentially and reaching an attack volume approximately very high compared to other attacks. To make the network safe and flexible a new networking infrastructure such as Software Defined Networking (SDN) has come into effect, which relies on centralized controller and decoupling of control and data plane. However due to it's centralized controller it is prone to DDoS attacks, as it makes the decision of forwarding of packets based on rules installed in switch by OpenFlow protocol. Out of all different DDoS attacks, UDP (User Datagram Protocol) flooding constitute the most in recent years. In this paper, we have proposed an entropy based DDoS detection and rate limiting based mitigation for efficient service delivery. We have evaluated using Mininet as emulator and Ryu as controller by taking switch as OpenVswitch and obtained better result in terms of bandwidth utilization and hit ratio which consume network resources to make denial of service.

While the general idea of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is to employ suitable, sophisticated information and communications technologies, however, such tool also encompass many system complexities. Fittingly, this paper aims to highlight the most contemporary system complications of ITS and in doing so, will also underline the safety, security and risk management concerns. More importantly, effectively treating such issues will ultimately improve the reliability and efficiency of transportation systems. Whereas such issues are among the most significant subjects for any intelligent system, for ITS in particular they the most dominant. For such intelligent systems, the safety, security and risk management issues must not only be decidedly prioritized, but also methodically integrated. As a part of such ITS integration, this paper will delicately examine the Emergency Management System (EMS) development and application. Accurate EMS is not only a mandatory feature of intelligent systems, but it is a fundamental component of ITS which will vigilantly respond to safety, security and risk management apprehensions. To further substantiate such scheme, the Sydney Metro's EMS will be also conferred. It was determined that, the Sydney Metro's EMS although highly advanced, it was also vigilantly aligned with specific designated safety, security and risk management strategies.

Human's direct supervision on robot's erroneous behavior is crucial to enhance a robot intelligence for a `flawless' human-robot interaction. Motivating humans to engage more actively for this purpose is however difficult. To alleviate such strain, this research proposes a novel approach, a growth and regression metaphoric interaction design inspired from human's communicative, intellectual, social competence aspect of developmental stages. We implemented the interaction design principle unto a conversational agent combined with a set of synthetic sensors. Within this context, we aim to show that the agent successfully encourages the online labeling activity in response to the faulty behavior of robots as a supervision process. The field study is going to be conducted to evaluate the efficacy of our proposal by measuring the annotation performance of real-time activity events in the wild. We expect to provide a more effective and practical means to supervise robot by real-time data labeling process for long-term usage in the human-robot interaction.

Jyothi, R., Cholli, Nagaraj G..  2019.  New Approach to Secure Cluster Heads in Wireless Sensor Networks. 2019 5th International Conference on Advanced Computing Communication Systems (ICACCS). :1097–1101.
This Wireless Sensor Network is a network of devices that communicates the information gathered from a monitored field through wireless links. Small size sensor nodes constitute wireless sensor networks. A Sensor is a device that responds and detects some type of input from both the physical or environmental conditions, such as pressure, heat, light, etc. Applications of wireless sensor networks include home automation, street lighting, military, healthcare and industrial process monitoring. As wireless sensor networks are distributed across large geographical area, these are vulnerable to various security threats. This affects the performance of the wireless sensor networks. The impact of security issues will become more critical if the network is used for mission-critical applications like tactical battlefield. In real life deployment scenarios, the probability of failure of nodes is more. As a result of resource constraints in the sensor nodes, traditional methods which involve large overhead computation and communication are not feasible in WSNs. Hence, design and deployment of secured WSNs is a challenging task. Attacks on WSNs include attack on confidentiality, integrity and availability. There are various types of architectures that are used to deploy WSNs. Some of them are data centric, hierarchical, location based, mobility based etc. This work discusses the security issue of hierarchical architecture and proposes a solution. In hierarchical architectures, sensor nodes are grouped to form clusters. Intra-cluster communication happens through cluster heads. Cluster heads also facilitate inter-cluster communication with other cluster heads. Aggregation of data generated by sensor nodes is done by cluster heads. Aggregated data also get transferred to base through multi-hop approach in most cases. Cluster heads are vulnerable to various malicious attacks and this greatly affects the performance of the wireless sensor network. The proposed solution identifies attacked cluster head and changes the CH by identifying the fittest node using genetic algorithm based search.

Pervasive systems over the years continuous to grow exponentially. Engagement of IoT in fields such as Agriculture, Home automation, industrial applications etc is on the rise. Self organizing networks within the IoT field give rise to engagement of various nodes for data communication. The rise in Cyber-attacks within IoT pose a lot of threat to these connected nodes and hence there is a need for data passing through nodes to be verified during communication. In this paper we proposed a nodal authentication approach in IoT using blockchain in securing the integrity of data passing through the nodes in IoT. In our work, we engaged the GOST algorithm in our approach. At the end, we achieved a nodal authentication and verification of the transmitted data. This makes it very difficult for an attacker to fake a node in the communication chain of the connected nodes. Data integrity was achieved in the nodes during the communication.

Now-a-days, video steganography has developed for a secured communication among various users. The two important factor of steganography method are embedding potency and embedding payload. Here, a Multiple Object Tracking (MOT) algorithmic programs used to detect motion object, also shows foreground mask. Discrete wavelet Transform (DWT) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) are used for message embedding and extraction stage. In existing system Least significant bit method was proposed. This technique of hiding data may lose some data after some file transformation. The suggested Multiple object tracking algorithm increases embedding and extraction speed, also protects secret message against various attackers.

Based on Markov chain analysis method, the situation prediction of smart grid security and stability can be judged in this paper. First component state transition probability matrix and component state prediction were defined. A fast derivation method of Markov state transition probability matrix using in system state prediction was proposed. The Matlab program using this method was compiled to analyze and obtain the future state probability distribution of grid system. As a comparison the system state distribution was simulated based on sequential Monte Carlo method, which was in good agreement with the state transition matrix, and the validity of the method was verified. Furthermore, the situation prediction of the six-node example was analyzed, which provided an effective prediction and analysis tool for the security situation.

Rizvi, Syed, Imler, Jarrett, Ritchey, Luke, Tokar, Michael.  2019.  Securing PKES against Relay Attacks using Coordinate Tracing and Multi-Factor Authentication. 2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS). :1–6.

In most produced modern vehicles, Passive Keyless Entry and Start System (PKES), a newer form of an entry access system, is becoming more and more popular. The PKES system allows the consumer to enter within a certain range and have the vehicle's doors unlock automatically without pressing any buttons on the key. This technology increases the overall convenience to the consumer; however, it is vulnerable to attacks known as relay and amplified relay attacks. A relay attack consists of placing a device near the vehicle and a device near the key to relay the signal between the key and the vehicle. On the other hand, an amplified relay attack uses only a singular amplifier to increase the range of the vehicle sensors to reach the key. By exploiting these two different vulnerabilities within the PKES system, an attacker can gain unauthorized access to the vehicle, leading to damage or even stolen property. To minimize both vulnerabilities, we propose a coordinate tracing system with an additional Bluetooth communication channel. The coordinate tracing system, or PKES Forcefield, traces the authorized key's longitude and latitude in real time using two proposed algorithms, known as the Key Bearing algorithm and the Longitude and Latitude Key (LLK) algorithm. To further add security, a Bluetooth communication channel will be implemented. With an additional channel established, a second frequency can be traced within a secondary PKES Forcefield. The LLK Algorithm computes both locations of frequencies and analyzes the results to form a pattern. Furthermore, the PKES Forcefield movement-tracing allows a vehicle to understand when an attacker attempts to transmit an unauthenticated signal and blocks any signal from being amplified over a fixed range.

Djoudi, Aghiles, Pujolle, Guy.  2019.  Social Privacy Score Through Vulnerability Contagion Process. 2019 Fifth Conference on Mobile and Secure Services (MobiSecServ). :1–6.
The exponential usage of messaging services for communication raises many questions in privacy fields. Privacy issues in such services strongly depend on the graph-theoretical properties of users' interactions representing the real friendships between users. One of the most important issues of privacy is that users may disclose information of other users beyond the scope of the interaction, without realizing that such information could be aggregated to reveal sensitive information. Determining vulnerable interactions from non-vulnerable ones is difficult due to the lack of awareness mechanisms. To address this problem, we analyze the topological relationships with the level of trust between users to notify each of them about their vulnerable social interactions. Particularly, we analyze the impact of trusting vulnerable friends in infecting other users' privacy concerns by modeling a new vulnerability contagion process. Simulation results show that over-trusting vulnerable users speeds the vulnerability diffusion process through the network. Furthermore, vulnerable users with high reputation level lead to a high convergence level of infection, this means that the vulnerability contagion process infects the biggest number of users when vulnerable users get a high level of trust from their interlocutors. This work contributes to the development of privacy awareness framework that can alert users of the potential private information leakages in their communications.

Matyukhina, Alina, Stakhanova, Natalia, Dalla Preda, Mila, Perley, Celine.  2019.  Adversarial Authorship Attribution in Open-Source Projects. Proceedings of the Ninth ACM Conference on Data and Application Security and Privacy. :291–302.

Open-source software is open to anyone by design, whether it is a community of developers, hackers or malicious users. Authors of open-source software typically hide their identity through nicknames and avatars. However, they have no protection against authorship attribution techniques that are able to create software author profiles just by analyzing software characteristics. In this paper we present an author imitation attack that allows to deceive current authorship attribution systems and mimic a coding style of a target developer. Withing this context we explore the potential of the existing attribution techniques to be deceived. Our results show that we are able to imitate the coding style of the developers based on the data collected from the popular source code repository, GitHub. To subvert author imitation attack, we propose a novel author obfuscation approach that allows us to hide the coding style of the author. Unlike existing obfuscation tools, this new obfuscation technique uses transformations that preserve code readability. We assess the effectiveness of our attacks on several datasets produced by actual developers from GitHub, and participants of the GoogleCodeJam competition. Throughout our experiments we show that the author hiding can be achieved by making sensible transformations which significantly reduce the likelihood of identifying the author's style to 0% by current authorship attribution systems.

In this paper, we explore the authorship attribution of The Golden Lotus using the traditional machine learning method of text classification. There are four candidate authors: Shizhen Wang, Wei Xu, Kaixian Li and Zhideng Wang. We choose The Golden Lotus's poems and four candidate authors' poems as data set. According to the characteristics of Chinese ancient poem, we choose Chinese character, rhyme, genre and overlapped word as features. We use six supervised machine learning algorithms, including Logistic Regression, Random Forests, Decision Tree and Naive Bayes, SVM and KNN classifiers respectively for text binary classification and multi-classification. According to two experiments results, the style of writing of Wei Xu's poems is the most similar to that of The Golden Lotus. It is proved that among four authors, Wei Xu most likely be the author of The Golden Lotus.

Zhou, Z., Yang, Y., Cai, Z., Yang, Y., Lin, L..  2019.  Combined Layer GAN for Image Style Transfer*. 2019 IEEE International Conference on Computational Electromagnetics (ICCEM). :1—3.

Image style transfer is an increasingly interesting topic in computer vision where the goal is to map images from one style to another. In this paper, we propose a new framework called Combined Layer GAN as a solution of dealing with image style transfer problem. Specifically, the edge-constraint and color-constraint are proposed and explored in the GAN based image translation method to improve the performance. The motivation of the work is that color and edge are fundamental vision factors for an image, while in the traditional deep network based approach, there is a lack of fine control of these factors in the process of translation and the performance is degraded consequently. Our experiments and evaluations show that our novel method with the edge and color constrains is more stable, and significantly improves the performance compared with the traditional methods.

There has been a growing expansion in the use of steganography, due to the evolution in using internet technology and multimedia technology. Hence, nowadays, the information is not secured sufficiently while transmitting it over the network. Therefore, information security has taken an important role to provide security against unauthorized individuals. This paper proposes steganography and cryptography technique to secure image based on hybrid edge detector. Cryptography technique is used to encrypt a secret image by using Vernam cipher algorithm. The robust of this algorithm is depending on pseudorandom key. Therefore, pseudo-random key is generated from a nonlinear feedback shift register (Geffe Generator). While in steganography, Hybrid Sobel and Kirch edge detector have been applied on the cover image to locate edge pixels. The least significant bit (LSB) steganography technique is used to embed secret image bits in the cover image in which 3 bits are embedded in edge pixel and 2 bits in smooth pixel. The proposed method can be used in multi field such as military, medical, communication, banking, Electronic governance, and so on. This method gives an average payload ratio of 1.96 with 41.5 PSNR on average. Besides, the maximum size of secret image that can be hidden in the cover image of size 512*512 is 262*261. Also, when hiding 64800 bits in baboon cover image of size 512*512, it gives PSNR of 50.42 and MSE of 0.59.

The Internet of Things (IoT) market is growing rapidly, allowing continuous evolution of new technologies. Alongside this development, most IoT devices are easy to compromise, as security is often not a prioritized characteristic. This paper proposes a novel IoT Security Model (IoTSM) that can be used by organizations to formulate and implement a strategy for developing end-to-end IoT security. IoTSM is grounded by the Software Assurance Maturity Model (SAMM) framework, however it expands it with new security practices and empirical data gathered from IoT practitioners. Moreover, we generalize the model into a conceptual framework. This approach allows the formal analysis for security in general and evaluates an organization's security practices. Overall, our proposed approach can help researchers, practitioners, and IoT organizations, to discourse about IoT security from an end-to-end perspective.

Harmonic distortions come into existence in the power system not only due to nonlinear loads of consumers but also due to custom power devices used by power utilities. These distortions are harmful to the power networks as these produce over heating of appliances, reduction in their life expectancy, increment in electricity bill, false tripping, etc. This paper presents an effective, simple and direct approach to identify the problematic cause either consumer load or utility source or both responsible for harmonics injection in the power system. This technique does not require mathematical model, historical data and expert knowledge. The online methodology is developed in the laboratory and tested for different polluted loads and source conditions. Experimental results are found satisfactory. This proposed technique has substantial potential to determine the problematic cause without any power interruption by plug and play operation just like CCTV.

Over the years, technology has reformed the perception of the world related to security concerns. To tackle security problems, we proposed a system capable of detecting security alerts. System encompass audio events that occur as an outlier against background of unusual activity. This ambiguous behaviour can be handled by auditory classification. In this paper, we have discussed two techniques of extracting features from sound data including: time-based and signal based features. In first technique, we preserve time-series nature of sound, while in other signal characteristics are focused. Convolution neural network is applied for categorization of sound. Major aim of research is security challenges, so we have generated data related to surveillance in addition to available datasets such as UrbanSound 8k and ESC-50 datasets. We have achieved 94.6% accuracy for proposed methodology based on self-generated dataset. Improved accuracy on locally prepared dataset demonstrates novelty in research.
